Keyshawn Johnson downplays Mac Jones hype: ‘He ain’t Josh Allen’
Brand J replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I do think Jones will improve a ton once they start surrounding him with some legitimate weapons and that could be a scary proposition seeing as how his efficiency had him at 70+ completion percentage many games. He reads the field well and is accurate. He’s also not afraid to throw the ball up to his receiver in hopes that receiver makes a play, so once K’Neal Harry is replaced by a talent like AJ Brown or DK Metcalf, maybe his game won’t be such a laughing matter anymore. -
Allen says Stafford has top 5 arm talent of all time. I don’t many QBs before I started watching religiously in 1996, but Stafford seems like a stretch. Off the top of my head I’ve got (in no particular order): Elway, Marino, Favre, J George, and Allen. Is this a bad list?

I picked Davis because it’s hard to find a man that big and heavy who moves that well. Only caveat would be I’d want him to play more than 50% of the snaps to maximize his value to the defense. If thats not guaranteed, go with a speedy CB or WR who will play close to 100% of the snaps.

Bills promote Matthew Smiley to ST Coordinator
Brand J replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Farwell essentially became Bass’s personal cheerleader before he was drafted, so I’ll give him credit for that. If he wasn’t so high on him I don’t know if the Bills take him at that pick. The article I read talked about Farwell meeting Bass (at the Senior Bowl?), seeing how the ball exploded off his foot, then running and telling the higher ups how they absolutely had to draft the guy. From there Beane started doing his homework and giving Bass a closer look. -
Buffalo Bills’ salary cap ramifications of cutting DT Star Lotulelei
Brand J replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Turned out his best half of season, true. Still, you’d like to see him want to be around his teammates, especially after sitting out a year. He’s not obligated to, but that’s what you’d like to see. -
Buffalo Bills’ salary cap ramifications of cutting DT Star Lotulelei
Brand J replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
From what I see, after sitting out a year due to COVID, Star came back unvaccinated and unwilling to participate with his teammates in OTAs. He also sat out for personal reasons. These aren’t trouble making off the field issues, they’re issues that cause fans to rightly or wrongly question his commitment to the game. -
Of course the issues in the run game aren’t all Edmunds fault, take for example that TD run by Harris in the first Patsie game where it looked like Edmunds overran the play. He was caught in no man’s land, it was a 2 way go for Harris and Edmunds ran to the outside hole. Once Harris cut back inside it was off to the races. I do blame him for plays that are entirely within his control, like failing to stop Fournette on a crucial 3rd and 1 in overtime where it was just him and the RB in the hole. Also blame him for some of his coverage awareness where at times he doesn’t recognize the receiver coming into his zone and is left to chase the ball. His awareness in his 4th year hasn’t increased significantly from his rookie season. Maybe that’s attributed to instincts, where I feel he’s lacking in that area as well. To put it simply, I want Edmunds to play the position on the field that comes with the least amount of thinking - see ball, get ball. Because the Bills employ a nickel defense more than most teams, I’m not sure that position exists, other than DE, and there’s no way he’s excelling there. Explore a trade, Beane.

Surprised I’ve never heard a spin-off of Swami’s famous phrase: “no one, circles the toilet, like…” “no one circles the drain, like…” Once heard a story about how some guy had been working a girl at the bar for awhile, trying to get her number. In walks Berman with his entourage and he looks at the girl and tells her something like “you’re with me, leather” and she instantly went with him, leaving the other guy standing there like an idiot. Celebrity has its perks!

I wish they would’ve made the trade last year to leap frog Dallas and pick up 4.39 Micah Parsons who actually played MLB in college. He’d be the blue chip speedy player our front 7 needs.

How bad is it for Lesile Frazier?
Brand J replied to Marvlevydraftdaygenius's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ve moved past the game and the frustrations of “there’s always next year,” but not everyone around me can say the same. I was walking down Sunset Blvd in LA a few hours ago wearing my Bills shirt. Ended up passing a guy in a Lakers jersey and I hear “you guys should be in the Super Bowl!” Turned around and he had this distraught look, like the game was a couple days ago. “Thirteen seconds, man! Thirteen seconds!” I know, I know. “I’m a Raiders fan, but let me tell you, everyone was rooting for you guys, it should be you in the dance! Squib it!” We chatted for a minute and then went our separate ways. So although I’m over the game and have been for awhile, it somehow finds its way back to me. I suppose I could stop wearing Bills paraphernalia and avoid these encounters, but I’m proud of the trajectory of our team. We don’t suck! “You guys are young, you’ve got time to get one” was his parting words. One can only hope. -

I think if a coordinator can say “I called the number one defense in football and did it without a single pro bowler” he should be expedited to the nearest HC vacancy. I put much more stock in All Pro votes than Pro Bowl nominations, but I really think that 13 seconds cost him an opportunity. It was talked about everywhere and canceled many of the great things Frazier did this year. With that said, it feels like his defense fails against competent offenses more often than not and I’d prefer a more aggressive play caller. Don’t see McD moving on from him though, so he’s ours at least for another year. Also don’t see us having access to any blue chip prospects that could help his scheme. Expect more of the same next year - great against bottom feeder or one-sided offenses, middling against good QBs or balanced attacks. -

2022 Offseason Primer Position Group: Linebackers
Brand J replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
MAJBobby warned us he was higher on Edmunds than most, but then proceeded to give us a fair and accurate description of his game. Well done, sir. I was waiting to read “he makes impact plays like Deion Sanders because QBs are scared to throw his way.” Seriously, that was another poster’s write up. To me, Edmunds player comparison is Tyrod Taylor. Both were highly respected teammates, captains, and pro bowlers, but could frustrate the heck outta you. Oh, one was taken in the 1st round and the other in the 6th, but I feel the comparisons are there. Thanks for the LB report. -
Daboll? I find the McD/Daboll discourse interesting. If McD was unhappy with him to the point he wanted him gone, I don’t think there’s any way Schoen would’ve made him a HC. McD and Beane talk regularly, you can believe Beane talks to Schoen and the others as well, so if there was internal strife, I don’t think that hire happens. I do think there were disagreements, but never to the point where a coordinator was going to lose a job. We heard how much Farwell wanted out too, isn’t he still employed with the Bills?

Probably tried to use the tape to get a spot on another team’s 53.

Buffalo Bills’ salary cap ramifications of cutting DT Star Lotulelei
Brand J replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was also away from the team when he was fully recovered due to personal reasons. Some speculated it was due to a death in his family, but it was never revealed. We don’t know where his head is at, but I’m pretty sure it’s not 100% in being the best DT he can be for the Bills. -
Believe the hire has to be an external one to qualify for the 2 draft picks. Lovie has to know he has no real future as HC of the Texans. That organization has to be one of the worst run in all of sports. They’ve got a top 10 talent at QB riding the bench during his prime years and don’t seem interested in doing anything about it - besides trying to fleece teams that want to trade for him. They’ve made all sorts of bad moves in just 2 years to become the bottom dweller they are today.

Bills 2021 rookie class ranked 27th in league
Brand J replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let’s make one thing clear: I don’t dislike Edmunds. I’ve never called him trash or terrible and would invite you to prove me a liar. He does some good things on the field, of course, but also leaves a lot to be desired. It’s evident both of us have biases when assessing his play, though yours are farther from reality. Are you seriously comparing our MLB and what he brings to the field to Hall of Fame CB Deion Sanders? Have you gone so far to convince yourself his impact is comparable? Your previous post was filled with excuses for why Edmunds registered 0 sacks, 0 FFs, 0 FRs, and 1 INT, despite being largely healthy and playing 100% of the snaps, but now you’ve outdone yourself. Quick, what’s Edmunds most notable play in his 4 year career? What stands out to you more than any other, the play that has so far defined his career? Does he have ONE? In what big game did he make his presence felt? Someone like you and your bias might tell me the Chiefs because he took away Mahomes first read forcing him to pick on the other defenders. What do you say to PFF’s poor coverage ratings? Are they biased as well and doing a poor job assessing his responsibilities? To illustrate just how much you grab at straws, you even argued that I said Edmunds rushes the passer a lot. Go back and re-read. I said he does rush the passer, but sucks at it. He gets stood up by RBs. But someone like you would tell me he’s doing his 1/11, opening the play so others could do their job. I said my biggest takeaway from Beane’s season ending presser was that he praised Edmunds for his role in the defense, as far as getting players lined up and shouldering that responsibility. That was what I felt was his most glowing remarks. I didn’t comment on all his other snippets that included “would we like to see him get better at…” because he didn’t say anything I found revealing. Call it confirmation bias. I’m willing to own up to mine, I live in a space closer to reality, but wouldn’t expect someone who compares Edmunds to Deion freaking Sanders to realize the extent of his biases. Good lord is right. -
I don’t know if that second half was more about the Bengal defense, or Mahomes losing whatever magic he had for the 9 quarters prior. He looked like a completely different player and wasn’t throwing to receivers that were actually open. It’s like he was afraid and gun-shy all of a sudden. Go back and look at the play towards the end of the game where he was running around like a blindfolded squirrel. There were receivers open in the endzone, small window, but nothing he hasn’t attempted before. I do think their failure to score before halftime was some sort of psychological turning point. And then that first INT to the big lineman cemented his downfall.
