  1. Beane grinning like they just won the Super Bowl...
  2. He also said no coaching changes expected. Farwell survives.
  3. I'm just glad they were entertaining to watch for a full four months. Was a really welcome change, and we deserved it.
  4. Mine as well. RAC is off-the-charts good. Daboll seems to want chain-movers, not deep threats or giants. He's perfect.
  5. Fair (separate, as I said) question, but I'm guessing they wanted to force Houston to take a CB out and put a LB in, in order to give them a better look in the passing game. Allen needs to understand the situation there - as dumb as these coaches are (and they're dumb, IMO), I find it very hard to believe they wanted Allen to check to the run there as if it were an either/or scenario. I'd be shocked. He must've been coached to throw the ball away in that scenario if he didn't get the look they needed.
  6. Right? It seems like that's the sweet spot the Ravens have been working with for like a decade, waiting for quality playmakers to fall to them.
  7. Because any idiot can hand the ball off and let a talented back do the work - a genius can scheme midgets open downfield. I guess. The less-cynical explanation is that he was trying to take advantage of the Texans' weak secondary and was totally disconnected from what was happening down on the field, i.e., his young QB having a mental meltdown and needing COACHING. (It boggles my mind that anyone would consider hiring Daboll for HC after Saturday.)
  8. Agreed and it shouldn't go unsaid that he did all of this in the midst of interviewing for HC openings. Throwing 46 times when you have a job interview scheduled for the next day is an interesting coincidence...
  9. Respectfully, there is no way in hell that the Bills' playcallers drove the entire length of the field, often in "no huddle" and all of it at a quick pace, took a timeout, and then expected Allen to audible to a run to Gore. If they did, they should be fired. It's borderline fireable that Gore is even on the field in that situation but that's another matter. I have been very critical of these coaches but they were definitely calling plays to score a TD there.
  10. Really?? Look at that first shot you posted (and thank you btw). There is no way McK is going to be caught from behind. He's got a corner to worry about off to the right, but a decent block by the WR deals with him. It looks like the FS is way downfield and potentially could stop him, but he'd have to take the exact right angle and it's by no means an easy tackle in open field given McK's speed - and even then it would've been a monster gain. You really don't see it that way??
  11. Yes!!! That's the one. McKenzie would've smoked those two LBs, zero question. They're trailing him and he's way faster. The only threat is the CB and a decent block by the other WR takes him out of the play. The throw needs to hit him in the chest and it's an easy one at that. That play was Game Over if Allen hits it. OMG I can't stop looking at it. I was right, look at all of that daylight. Unreal. Brutal. EDOT: I guess the safety is down there too, now that I look closer - but it's at least a huge gain and very possibly a score. My point was Daboll's schemes are better than he gets credit for, given the talent he's working with.
  12. Second play I believe. I’m expecting the All-22 to confirm what I saw. 3rd and 3. Allen rolled out and hit McKenzie low and he fell while catching him. As best I could see, if Allen makes that throw (a simple one) there is 70 yards of daylight in front and it’s the biggest play of the year. EDIT might've been the 3rd and 9 play. Would really love to see the video of that. An accurate pass would've gone the distance from what I could tell. My point is that there are options on most passing plays and given the state of the Bills' receiving corps, that's impressive and a feather in Daboll's cap. I'd be careful about moving on from him but if their hand is forced, there are some good options out there (Shurmur).
  13. He schemed McKenzie open for what would’ve been a 70 yard TD pass on 3rd and 3 in the second quarter, but Allen threw it at his feet from five yards away and McKenzie fell while catching it. There is a lot to like. Let me know if you find out. I have no idea. It was insane.
  14. "How do you plan to prevent Josh Allen from glitching during games in 2020?"
  15. I don't know about "the most" but you have to weigh the cost of putting Allen in a brand-new offense at this point. I'm not sure it's worth the risk of trying to go from a B to a B+ or A. But if the decision gets made for them, I'd be fine with it.
  16. As I said upthread, they just CAN'T sell Daboll to their fanbase - he even looks like Freddie Kitchens' long-lost twin brother. They're almost the same person.
  17. He would be a tremendous hire - he understands how to design AND CALL plays. Would be serious luck if the Browns are dumb enough to make Daboll a head coach.
  18. My biggest issue with Brian Daboll is this: in the biggest sports moment of his life, as the game was collapsing around him on the national stage, Josh Allen was sitting on the bench by himself looking completely bewildered and lost. He may have been concussed (that's my theory). He had been making horrible decisions from mid-Q3 onward and clearly needed to reset. Where was his OC? Up in the booth. Now, that by itself isn't the worst thing, but you could tell by the playcalling (lots of spread formation) that Daboll was totally out of sync with his young QB protege, and didn't seem to have any awareness of that which was plain to see for the rest of us: the kid was having a meltdown and needed to be talked off the ledge. Yet he was completely abandoned (by the way, where the hell was McDermott? Clapping like a slack-jaw and looking equally bewildered, but that's a separate issue). Now Dabs is going to sell himself to another team with a young QB, one with serious emotional issues, as some sort of QB guru? Please. The most important thing for a HC is to have a feel not only for the game, but the key players in it - in real time, while the live ammo is flying at you. You can't coach a team on Tuesdays, only (hence my screen name). Brian Daboll is a Coach Tuesday.
  19. I don't consider him a good or bad HC, just an average one. Sort of like Jason Garrett. He's not going to out-scheme you - if the talent is there, he can install a scripted offense that becomes stale as the game or season progresses. His defenses have been hit-or-miss. He probably won't require major personnel adjustments on offense. He's not the type to stand up to Jerry Jones - he's kind of milquetoast, like Garrett. He's basically the same coach and personality as Garrett.
  20. Metcalf ran stiff and upright during the predraft workouts and didn’t put a full route tree on film in college. He was a high upside projection that worked out. Ford showed heavy feet in college and appears to be a bit off-kilter mentally. I’d give him one year at guard and then cut bait if he doesn’t cut down on his mistakes. Wasted pick most likely.
  21. That’s a generous amount of rope and runway you’re giving out. I suspect Terry is asleep enough to go along with that narrative. IMO if this was all their “plan” they’ve been fortunate that Allen didn’t mentally and physically implode before last night - no QB coach or veteran backup in his first training camp, a middling OC, the worst line and group of WRs in the league in 2018, no tight end or big catch radii to throw to... if this was actually the plan, it was an insane one.
