Something about this rubs me the wrong way…

Has been their MO for a long time. I wish they trusted their own ability to coach and develop a bit more - I think the focus on Boy Scouts has cost them some playmakers.

Yup. It's pretty clear they attributed last season's outcome to the following issues, probably in this order: 1. Lack of team speed on defense 2. Inability to affect the other team's passing game 3. Insufficient player development/strength and conditioning 4. Special teams They do not believe offense is/was the problem.

It's almost as though Beane is mad at the media for "making him" trade for Cooper mid-season, whereas he really believes they didn't need to panic and ditch their original third rounder. I could be wrong but that is the vibe I'm starting to get. And he's just the type who'd be stubborn enough to NOT make another in-season trade for a WR during 2025 just to prove his point.

Beane’s comments prove one thing: they do not feel any real urgency to upgrade the skill positions on offense. The upcoming season will put that approach on trial.

He’s exactly right. And saying “let me finish!” when nobody was interrupting him. Beane sounded shook not confident.

I mean for example, hypothetically of course, if I'm Joe Brady and I just invested hundreds of hours grinding film on WR prospects and meeting with them and advocating for them - all for nothing, because hey, idiots, we're set at WR don't you know - maybe I'd rather have known that in advance so I could spend more time with my family? Few things in life are worse than having your bosses waste your time.

Maybe next time they should play on Beane's side of the field and ask him why his staff is so bad at evaluating DL talent that they have to spend millions in free agency and heavy-weight their draft picks there every single offseason.

Maybe Beane should've just calmly thrown out that fact and then turned off his mic...

Again, just a terrible look by Beane. I know it's en vogue to attack the media these days but it rarely works. Saying over and over again "I don't watch your show" while he's calling in to complain about the "bitching" on the show is, at best, thin-skinned and at worst duplicitous. Beane has no room for error now - there are zero excuses for the defense to underperform in 2025 given the offseason investments, and now there's also ZERO excuses for the offense to underperform now that Beane pulled this stunt. Zero. They'd better maintain a fully healthy OL all season, and aim to turn the ball over a league-low 8 times or less again in 2025, at a minimum. And that's just to keep the status quo. Remember when Donahoe attacked the fans? He got summarily canned. I wouldn't be surprised to see Beane apologize within 24-48 hours.

Beane is so full of crap. He's the one who went into a STACKED WR draft last year and took only one, after trading down twice. He's the one who was scrambling to trade for a WR1 in the middle of the season last year - guess what, the fans were right that they were understaffed heading into the season. He's the one setting up numerous top-30 meetings with WR prospects then not drafting them. He's the one who already seems to be drafting replacements/contingency plans for two of his high picks last year (Bishop and Carter). For the price of one of them (Bishop) he likely could've traded up for Brian Thomas. And Beane is the one who is now shopping on the WR market (see Elijah Moore) after telling the media and fans to "quit their bitching." Again, he's full of crap.

So go golfing and let us discuss it.

But your theory does not explain why they did so much work on receivers leading up to the draft.

I think that’s exactly right. Philly last year proved again what Gettleman taught Beane years ago - keep taking swings at DL and if you hit on one or two, you can flip the field in your direction.
