You say "Allen can score with anyone". I say when we give him subpar to average weapons, we rely on Josh to play like Superman way more than we should. Anything less than superhuman to overcome the lack of talent and we're in trouble in big games. How often last season were we watching plays come easy to our opponents, ball out quickly while Josh scrambled around searching for someone to get separation and get open for him? Against the best teams and the best Defenses - just "anyone" isn't enough. If it was enough, we wouldn't constantly be hitting a ceiling of losing in the AFC Championship. If it was enough, we wouldn't have been leaning on James Cook to keep us alive in the Chiefs game (who most fans want to get rid of too bc their feelings are hurt) - only for Dalton Kincaid to fail us with the game on the line. We're failing Josh Allen by surrounding him with a WR core that's lacking on a regular basis.

Bills halt contract negotiations with Cook

Agreed. He's playing hardball and Beane's playing hardball - but in the end, as things stand right now, I don't see him sitting out anything more than Training Camp at most. He wants that money. He's not going to get it based on what he's done and then sitting out and/or playing subpar ball in his contract year. His brother threatened to Hold Out in 2020. He ended up not even missing any of Training Camp. For what his Trade Value is (which is much lower than most posters think it is) - better to have him playing his hardest for us in the Playoffs. Everyone's in their feels. But Beane isn't. Until he starts mouthing off like Diggs or something (where he starts taking shots at teammates and tries to force himself off of the team), there's no reason for him not to be here. -
So you're banking on Jerry Jones' idiocy and him throwing out the Chart that the Cowboys and all teams go by or paying the price of above a mid 2nd Round Pick for James Cook alone to make the trade work - which is more than DK friggin' Metcalf went for? Okay... sure 😆

You're still not even close. 12 is worth 347 points 30 is worth 196 points A 2026 3rd equates to a 2025 4th - that's worth 18 points (where teams would expect us to be picking) James Cook's value with all the things working against him (RB, last year of his deal, public angling for a top dollar contract for position, and being traded in a year of a good RB class) is probably topping out at a mid-4th (if we're lucky) - which is worth about 25 points. Proposed Bills trade package - 239 Which will move you to... Pick 24. You want to move up 18 picks and your package would move us up 6 picks. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart-Rich-Hill.asp

I used to like McAfee's show. But as time has gone by and he's said and done different things - his shtick has kind of run it's course with me. Even in WWE.

Rasul Douglas Wants to Stay in Buffalo
BillsFanForever19 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
We keep 5 CB's total generally, including Taron at Nickel (Codrington was the "6th" last year, but it was just for his Return role - otherwise they'd just have 5, with Cam Lewis as a floating backup NCB/S/ST hybrid). Right now we have: Christian Benford Taron Johnson Dane Jackson Ja'Marcus Ingram Add Douglas and a "Draft a couple CB's" - and we'd need to cut 2 from that field. Ingram's been in our system for years and they like him quite a bit as a Reserve DB and Special Teamer. So you'd most likely be looking at one of Douglas or Jackson being cut, as well as one of the Rookies. Which depending on where they were taken, might not even be an option. Douglas is simply not worth bringing back. And their actions to this point say he wasn't in the plans. To go back to him would constitute a failure in addressing the position, in my opinion. I'd honestly trust Dane Jackson before Rasul Douglas, at this point. I think the team feels the same way. -
Cam played more Safety for us last season than he did CB. He's a DB swiss army knife. He was a primary backup at both Safety and Nickel. Lately if you were going to say what his "primary" role is based on usage (mainly to injuries to Rapp and Hamlin) - it would be Safety.

Let's not and say we did. Load up the DL all you want. It'll help the run game. But as far as pressure, roll back the same secondary and that ball's flying out of the QB's hand lightning fast and negating the rush - as was the case all last year. Another year older and Douglas may be even worse than he was last year. There's a reason why we were in no rush to re-sign him and he's still floating around right now when teams need CB's. He was abysmal last season. I think he's hit the wall.- 114 replies

James Cook and a 5th and 6th for a high 2nd? Matthew Golden at 30? Good to see you're staying realistic.

If they were to keep Shenault as a Return Specialist - he'd be a 6th WR. We always carried 6 when the Return Specialist was a WR and only started carrying 5 WR's when the specialist was at a different position. Shenault is this year's Andy Isabella, K.J. Hamler, or Chase Claypool. His ceiling is FAR more likely than not the Practice Squad. It's where he ended his season last year and it's *incredibly* unlikely he makes the 53. WR was a position we needed to upgrade. Josh Palmer could become something more with Josh. But it's no sure thing. It's a projection. He's a career average sub 600 guy. To roll back Shakir, Coleman, and Samuel to pair with Palmer and Shavers in place of Hollins and Cooper is not only not an upgrade on paper, it's quite possibly a downgrade. I agree on Andreesen and especially Spector being expendable. But I see all of Milano, Bernard, Williams, and Olofoshio being here. Olofoshio was a 5th Round Pick last year for us who was considered a value where we picked him and is someone they're developing. Between Bernard, Williams, and Milano - there wasn't really much need to put him on the field. That doesn't mean he isn't coming along or they don't like him. And as you said with WR, we generally only keep 5. In Milano and Williams, I don't see them bringing in an OLB to put above either this season. Again, maybe they bring in a backup to upgrade from Andreesen. But the idea that it's a major need this season and especially above WR where there's a legitimate hole right now? I couldn't disagree more.

Finishing his career where it started.

I'm not saying pigeon hole a 1st Round Pick at any position. Obviously if the value isn't there at one position but is at another position of need, don't force a pick just bc you think one position is more of a need than the other. Find the best value at a position of need and make that your pick. I'm just tired of seeing "well we got Benford in the 6th so you don't need to worry about CB with any of the picks on Day 1 and Day 2". It's like winning a lot of money on a $1 scratch off and expecting that's going to happen every time you buy a Lucky 7. -

Christian Benford is the exception, not the rule. It's like saying "Tom Brady was Drafted in the 6th, so you should be able to find a HOF QB in the 4th". For every Christian Benford there was a Alex Austin, Rachad Wildgoose, Daequan Hardy, or Dane Jackson (who, while being a good pick in the 7th, isn't anything more than a subpar starter). -
The real Joe Marino doesn't like it.

Bills halt contract negotiations with Cook
BillsFanForever19 replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why? When the season starts and if he's here Week 1, why wouldn't we use him the exact same way we used him last year? James Cook carried us through the Ravens game and kept us alive in the second half of the Chiefs game in the Playoffs. He's our best Running Back. Whatever happens after the season happens. There's a good chance he won't be here. But while we have him and while he's trying to get paid, you use him as much as you can. You don't bite off your nose to spite your face. What you're suggesting is emotional fan nonsense. You'll get close to nothing on return. RB's get little in return. Players on the last year of their deal get little in return. Players who are publicly asking for top market value get little in return. And on top of all those boxes being checked, as you said, it's a strong RB class. So teams are more likely to just pick a guy that they'll have cheap for 4 seasons. So that would make the offer even less than normal years. For what we'd get in return, it's worth more to have him playing for us in the Playoffs this year. Worry about re-signing him or replacing him next offseason. -
I think DL is a much greater need than Safety. Specifically 1T. Daquan Jones shouldn't be on the team period imo. And right now, we have a grand total of 3 on the roster for Week 1 (Oliver, Jones, and Carter) and no one to even rotate Jones with. Who shouldn't be starting anymore. I think the replacement for Rapp next year is already on the roster in the form of Bishop - who I'd expect may even start over Hamlin this season (though I think he's more naturally suited for Rapp's spot). Forrest may also be a diamond in the rough signing that I could see doing well here and being brought next season. On top of those 4, there's also Cam Lewis, who we also play at Safety (while also serving as an emergency CB). Right now, we have every Safety we had on the Roster last season, plus Forrest. I also disagree with LB before WR. While I could see them wanting to upgrade from Buffalo Joe, like Safety, between Milano, Bernard, Williams, Olofoshio, Andreesen, and Spector - we have a full stack and everyone from last season returning. And no one beyond Andreesen or Spector will be released and good chance we only keep 5. WR, however, we're still missing one. We lost Hollins and Cooper and just brought in Palmer (Shenault is a camp body). Palmer *could* become more with Josh. But to date, he hasn't shown to be a big difference maker. Right now, I see us basically being in the same position we were last season when we had to make a Trade bc it wasn't enough. We're 100% Drafting at least 1 WR and with the core being underwhelming, it may be in the first 3 picks. I also agree with @GunnerBill that this won't be the year we Draft a RB. If we do, it would be one of our last picks just to bring to Camp and maybe stash on the PS. Between Cook, Davis, and Johnson all guaranteed to be here - there's no room on the 53. Another position I could see is Drafting late on Day 3 is a Punter. With Camarda and now Robbins, they may be set. But I could see a scenario where if there was a guy they liked, they'd take him and cut one of those guys. Neither guy is a lock.

If it's true that he's anywhere *near* Jermaine Burton territory, he won't be a Buffalo Bill. And I'd expect him to fall to Day 3. Bond was looked at as a mid to late 2nd Round Prospect without any character concerns. Burton fell to one of the last picks on Day 2 and was a better on field prospect than Bond. I hope that isn't true because I saw him as a good fit both for what he'd bring and where i'd expect him to be Drafted. -

You seem to have this hyper fixation with IDL since the Super Bowl. Like ALL of our focus needs to go there bc that's how Phili conquered KC. It's true, we have to do work there. With us only having Ed Oliver, Daquan Jones (who I've gone on record multiple times to say that he should not only not be starting, but maybe not on the team at all), and Dewayne Carter on the roster at the start of the league year - it wasn't even an upgrade thing, it was a neccessity. But the idea that alone is what's going to transform this defense is inaccurate. Yes, the Eagles DL ate. But there were multiple other factors that allowed that. First and foremost, was Phili's wonderfully built secondary and scheme. They completely neutralized KC's ability to get the ball out quickly. This allowed the Line to tee off. Next was a high powered, star studded offense that scored quickly and at will. This not only made the game out of reach quickly, but made KC a one dimensional passing offense to try and keep up. Allowing the DL to tee off further. Yes, we need to get DL help. But we also need Secondary help and offensive firepower help. If we were to put all our focus on the DL, then Mahomes would simply be able to do what he's always done against us. Which is getting the ball out quickly, targeting the side of the field that has Dane Jackson or a Day 3 Rookie (as most of your mocks have us doing) as well as beyond that where we have some uninspiring combination of Rapp, Hamlin, Bishop, and Forrest. If you load up on DL alone and leave the rest of the Secondary outside of Benford with subpar to average at best defenders - that DL is not going to be able to do what Phili did. And if you roll out the same Offensive Firepower (minus Cooper and Hollins, plus Palmer), then we're also hard pressed to do what Phili did, which is put the score out of hand quickly. Without them becoming one dimensional, our DL won't be able to become one dimensional like Phili's did either. All this to say, we need at least one (if not two) of those first 3 picks in the first 2 Rounds to be something other than DL. Especially when 3 of the 4 bigger signings we made this offseason were already focused on the DL. DL alone didn't make that Super Bowl what it was. -
It's interesting that he's bringing in multiple Drafted young Punter's. Sometimes it takes Punters years before they get it down. And both these guys were given up on fairly quickly. I like the approach. If there was enough talent there in College to get Drafted when the vast majority of Punters go Undrafted and they're that young and given up on under questionable circumstances - you may hit on something. I had thought with Camarda being the only Punter on the roster that we may Draft another with one of our later Day 3 Picks. Maybe they still do and the first leg of the competition is Mini Camp. Between 2-3 Drafted level Punter's, you're probably going to land on one that's good.

That last line is why the Bills signing Asante Samuel Jr. is unlikely.

If you think he can play 1T, sure. But if he's strictly a 3T, then we'd be looking at: 3T: Oliver Harmon Ogunjobi Carter 1T: Jones I don't see them looking to "upgrade Ed Oliver" with our 1st Round Pick. Oliver isn't going anywhere this year and they aren't going to make him the backup. I think with Ogunjobi's suspension and Carter having an unimpressive Rookie season, Drafting a 3T is fine. Round 1 to rotate with Oliver when we have multiple starting needs elsewhere though? I don't see it. Imo - Jones shouldn't even be on this team. Let alone starting. Right now, not only is he starting, we have no one to rotate him with. I had hoped Ogunjobi might be used primarily as a 1T on this team, as he did play Nose in Cleveland - but it appears that's not how they view him. -

Unfortunately, Matthew Golden is expected to go well before we pick. Maybe he falls a bit and we could trade up. But with all the other holes we have (mainly CB and DT) and the lack of options left in the veteran market to replace them - I don't know that we can afford to give up what it would take to move up for a WR.
