  1. My prediction? Boundary CB: Christian Benford Maxwell Hairston Tre'Davious White Dorian Strong Nickel: Taron Johnson Safety: Taylor Rapp Cole Bishop Damar Hamlin Nickel/Safety Hybrid: Jordan Hancock Cam Lewis "CB" (Really just a ST Returner): Brandon Codrington I could see a scenario where Laviska Shenault beats out Codrington, in which case he'd be carried as an extra "WR' instead. I could also see a scenario where Jordan Hancock looks ahead of schedule, in which case Cam Lewis is released and i'd imagine Ja'Marcus Ingram is kept (as I imagine they'd not want to cut both from Special Teams).
  2. Did he? Rasul Douglas allowed a 122.1 passer rate last season on balls thrown his direction. Given the opportunity, there was all the reason in the world to not re-sign him and try their luck with White and Jackson and Draft Hairston in the 1st... and Strong in the 6th. Douglas hit the wall with us and it wasn't even injury related.
  3. The reason we cut Tre last season was because we were 41+m over the cap and had Benford and Douglas (who hadn't hit the wall yet) and we could save 10+m by letting him go.
  4. Dude was toast last season. There's a reason he's still floating out there right now and a reason why we moved on.
  5. So you're saying he should only play 3rd Downs and only in the 4th Quarter? I understand being nervous about him being injured as a fan. But if that's all he's being used for, he should have never been signed. I agree with you on load management and not asking him to do too much. But that's too far.
  6. Said it once, i've said it a million times, Ladd McConkey is not the type of WR we were in the market for. Especially in this conversation where we're talking about the different roles of WR's, McConkey shouldn't be compared. It's like complaining about a Nickel CB being better than the Boundary CB we drafted. In Shakir, Kincaid, and Samuel - we had the role McConkey would be playing on this team more than covered. Drafting McConkey would have just served to take those players off the field and done nothing to replace Diggs and Davis on the Outside.
  7. The fact that he signed Palmer and Moore says that he needed to replace Cooper and Hollins' spots on the roster. Shenault is a camp body that may or may not make the roster as a Kick Returner over Codrington. None of those signings were to push Coleman off the roster. At most, they'll take on some of his reps on top of their regular load if Coleman doesn't look good in Year 2. He may or may not be sold on him yet. But he's entering just Year 2 after spending the 33rd pick in the Draft on him. He's going to be given this year and probably next year as well to see how he develops. He's not going anywhere this year. You don't give up on an investment like that after just 1 season, regardless of how he looks in Training Camp this year.
  8. That's also not happening.
  9. I wouldn't be so sure. I don't think he's earning the job outright before Camp even starts. I could be wrong, but i'd expect us to bring in another Punter.
  10. I'm sure with the evidence they have and the way that the case and arrest were handled, the DA is going ahead with it. Probably agreed to do so when the arrest was made. There's never been a question posed as to whether the DA is deciding whether or not to pursue it. It's just not public knowledge as to when the court hearings will be. In other news, his retaliatory defamation lawsuit was recently thrown out in Texas courts, with prejudice. Which further implies how the courts are viewing the case. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/45798436/nfl-prospect-isaiah-bond-defamation-lawsuit-dismissed Isaiah Bond is likely to never play in the NFL. And looking over what's been released, it's for good reason.
  11. I think it's less about talent evaluation and more about talent development and how they transitioned at the next level. Kaiir Elam is the only selection that felt like it was a reach to me where we took him. Players like Tremaine Edmunds and Dalton Kincaid were considered downright steals where they were selected. Ed Oliver, although not a trade up, was another college blue chipper that was not expected to be on the board where we selected him. But back to the OP, the 2022 Draft was a home run, regardless of the Elam whiff and the Araiza fiasco. Getting Christian Benford, James Cook, Khalil Shakir, and Terrel Bernard and them turning into what they turned into was massive.
  12. Yeah, there really isn't a place for him here this year. We're not going to keep more than 3 and neither Knox or Kincaid are going anywhere this season and our 3rd is always a Blocking TE and we spent a 5th on him this very year.
  13. Congrats to anyone going to Fisher. I haven't ever been able to win the lottery. LeShawn Jerman on Twitter was nice enough a few years back to gift me some. My dad is 76 and is dying to go and it breaks my heart every year when he realizes neither he, my brother, or I have got tickets for him. But I wouldn't trade that for the times the team was so bad that we could just roll up without tickets.
  14. And now the suspension will come down the pipeline. No conspiracy. No favoritism. This is how it plays out. Legal has to play it's course first. Now that it has, it's just a waiting game. I imagine it will come quickly as they generally have the investigation done and have an idea of what the suspension will be by the time the legal process has been completed.
  15. I'm not rooting for it. I'm just saying that if it's even a thought by the brass, it shouldn't even be so much as a consideration until Hoecht enters the equation and only if everyone stays healthy at DE through the first 6 weeks. Which right now looks like a big if. The people saying that AJE is a cut or traded candidate before the season are out to lunch.
  16. This is why the release or cut Trade AJ Epenesa crowd are crazy. Joey Bosa is a walking injury waiting to happen. Michael Hoecht won't be eligible to play until Week 8. And now Landon Jackson is on PUP. AJE shouldn't be thought of being moved until at least Hoecht comes back, so long as everyone else stays healthy.
  17. It is entertaining how dislike of a player makes posters hype up their competition into more than they are.
  18. Is this what you *think* is happening or what you *want* to happen?
  19. Christian Gonzalez coming in at 84 to me means Christian Benford is not making the list. Gonzalez was 2nd Team All Pro at CB last season and gets WAY more love league wide than Benford does. I don't see any way Benford is going to be above him, particularly on this list. Edit: And now the other 2nd Team All Pro CB Trent McDuffie comes in at 81. Yeah, no way Benford is above both Gonzalez and McDuffie.
  20. I think there's an overcorrection by fans when it comes to the evaluation of Hamlin v. the brass' evaluation. Is Damar an above average, great starter? No. You want to have a better starter than Damar. Is he so bad that he holds no value on a 53 man roster? Also, no. Just bc you could do better than him as a Starter doesn't mean he shouldn't be on the roster period. He knows the system and has McDermott's trust in it enough that he was an unquestioned starter for us all last year. And he wasn't so terrible in the role that he was a consistent liability. Without getting to Lamar and causing that fumble to happen, we may not have won the Divisional game. And when they had the chance to walk away from him, they chose to bring him back. It's my hope that Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop are the Starters this year. But that doesn't mean there's no place for Hamlin on the team. Hamlin's experience and ability makes him a very good backup for this team. Not every player on a 53 man roster is going to be a Superstar. Not every player is someone that you'd be excited about starting if someone went down. No team is 53 deep with above average starters. And with Hamlin, it feels like fans are like "well he's not a great starter so he's worthless". When it comes to how the team viewed him last season and how a vocal majority of the fans view him, I think the reality is somewhere in the middle.
  21. I don't think he's the same guy as Hardy. Like at all. And while he was a 6th Rounder, he was only taken 7 picks after Hancock, 4 picks after Hawes. Hardy is a diminutive 5'9" Nickel, who was Drafted primarily to be a Return Man and failed to impress to a point that they traded a pick for Codrington to take his roster spot. If not for the return ability in College (that didn't show up in Training Camp and the Pre-Season), Hardy was probably a UDFA. Strong is a 6'1" Outside CB with Zone coverage skills drafted to be a CB for us. He's a much better Outside CB than Hardy was a Nickel. Expected to go as high as Round 4 and fell more for being a Zone guy than anything else. And while both were technically taken in Round 6, they were effectively taken almost a Round and a half apart. Dorian Strong was taken with the 1st Pick in Round 6 (Pick 177). Daequan Hardy was taken with the 43rd Pick in Round 6 (compensatory and second to last in the Round, Pick 219). I view Lundt and Prather as the Draft Picks unlikely to make it. I'm not guaranteeing Strong makes it. But if he lives up to expectations and can play Teams, I think him beating out Ingram as the last CB (alongside Benford, Hairston, Taron, and Tre) is likely. He's more talented and has the potential to be developed into more.
  22. You have both Hancock and Strong most likely being cut? That's not only not the most likely to happen, it's HIGHLY unlikely. We've never outright cut a 5th Round Draft Pick. Hancock was Drafted bc he's a more talented version of Cam Lewis. Strong was the 1st Pick in Round 6 and was a steal there. Obviously, not all 9 picks are making the 53. But our 5th selection? My gut says both make it. But at the very least, Hancock is in. I'm willing to say there's close to a zero percent chance that neither Hancock or Strong make the roster.
  23. I think if the board had it's way, it would obviously be Forrest staying. But I've said this a few times, I don't think there's been a bigger disconnect between the fanbase and the brass on a player than that of the evaluation of Damar Hamlin. A large percentage of the fanbase sees a guy who shouldn't even be on the team. Not deserving of even a depth roster position. But McDermott sees a guy who he happily started for the entire year last season. Even when Mike Edwards was asking for his release. Even after Cole Bishop came back from injury and had time to get the playbook down and started in the final game. They had the chance to walk away from him this offseason and they brought him back. I think McDermott likes him a lot. And I'll believe it when I see it that they're going to go from him being a full time starter to not even being a depth player for us. As others have mentioned, there's also the contracts. Darrick Forrest is only guaranteed 167k. Damar is guaranteed 2m. When push comes to shove, i'd be surprised if Forrest is anything more than a Camp Body.
  24. Yeah, there's no way Spencer Brown makes the list and Dion doesn't. It's either they both make the list or just Dion does. If I had to hazard a guess, it'll just be Josh, Dion, and Cook. Christian Benford and Spencer Brown *should* be on the list of the Top 100 Players in the NFL - but I view them both as longshots for this particular one.
