Realistic "Transition Year" Expectations
Bills aPHILLYate replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Considering we spent the final 2/3 of last season with a bona-fide #1 WR who could barely crack 30-50yds but commanded double digit targets and a #2 who routinely didn't even register a catch or target; I expect the variety in the passing game mixed with a legit rushing attack to be beneficial to the offense. Considering we were down to 4th stringers and pulling people off the couch to come play defense during our playoff stint and without our All Pro LB for a majority of the season; I expect a top 10 defense again and hope for improved durability. I'm not down on the team at all and I look forward to the youth infusion that is taking place on both sides. I expect another division title and legit playoff run as well. -
New Bills WR. Former Lion Quintez Cephus
Bills aPHILLYate replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would encourage those who are gonna complain about every single signing at WR this year because their favorite wasn't picked (even though a majority were off by 2-4 rounds in their expert grading analysis), to start scouting the 2025 WR class and FA pool. That will hopefully ease your angst and keep you entertained until the following events this year: 1. We allow our players a chance to do anything on the field to formulate any semblance of a valid opinion 2. Progress up to camp cuts/injuries 3. Get a jump on players that may be available at the trade deadline For our advanced scouts you can start pounding the table for your sure fire picks that very well may be off by 2-4 rounds again. -
At this juncture Franklin and a slew of other WR are 4th rd guys at best...so if they picked one of them could we bemoan the fact that they took a guy in the 3rd that could've easily been had in the 4th?
-
WR, S, TE, Edge, OL, RB Possibly in that order too I could see us using a 5th to move up in the 4th or 2 of them to try and get an additional 4th After a 2nd WR, S and a TE I think we're pretty much set Hoping for 2 out of the following: Walker/Franklin/Baker/Oladapo/Mustapha/Hicks

Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
Bills aPHILLYate replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
If you aren't solely reliant on one rookie to bail your offense out of every dire situation then I think you better your chances of allowing him to prove himself in those type of scenarios. We just traded a #1 who literally didn't do this for us so I'll allow the rook the opportunity to show what he could be. -
Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

Well he isn't ancient and we are on a course of investing into him during his prime. We all age so what are your suggestions that differ so drastically from what I presented? -

Are you saying you know the exact makeup of a difference maker? If so please tell me the organization you scout for and examples of the players you've scouted and presented to the organization. -

At this point I think we could mess around and get a combo of 2 safeties and an edge in our next 3 picks. Try to move up in the 4th for another WR or DT and then do whatever the board dictates as far as depth pieces -
The way the draft is playing out, I could see us maybe making a move for Sutton at best. Let the disgruntled guys finish out their respective terms. Dream scenario is that Minny somehow screws things up with Jettas and he's in play when we have $$$ to make an offer and plenty of cost controlled contracts

Walker in the 3rd or 4th and I'm over the moon. Franklin is still out there as I type this as well. It's very doable with also adding size. -
Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

Considering that the consensus thought of Kincaid was that he was basically a WR more than a TE, I don't see the downfall of adding a player with the physical traits and ability of a Coleman to the outside; which should theoretically make Kincaid even more of a mismatch on defense from his position -

The expectation and direct comparisons shouldn't be based on emotion and attachment to your personal attachment to a player you wanted. I'm not trying to be sarcastic. This is my sentiment to all the detractors and downers. I personally wanted AD but I'm not devaluing the pick because of the name. There are plenty of traits to justify the selection. -

If he simply brings that element to the team on a consistent basis, I think his floor is what we hoped/expected Gabe to provide without the disappearing acts. We literally had Gabe go games without as much of a target and get participation awards in conjunction with our #1 getting 10+ targets to the tune of >50yds and coming off the field every other play. I'm excited and I look forward to the next complimentary piece! -

I don't see it that way... I believe we just added a potential playmaker due to his contested catch ability alone. We still can add another element to the group with another selection in this draft as well. I'm high on Samuel in this offense along with progression from Kincaid,Shakir and even Cook in the passing game. Josh operates best with being able to spread the ball around and not having to pepper a specific guy who couldn't crack 30-50yds for more than half a season. I'm very optimistic that opinions will change on this pick very quickly. This is coming from someone who wanted AD arguably for the same reasons. -

I'm absolutely fine with the selection. Now address other positions and add another WR in the 3rd or 4th P.S. we will still have future drafts and FA to supplement the WR corps over the next few years -
I know I'm in the minority here but I'm all for Coleman as a selection though I covet AD more. I want a big boundary receiver that can simply win contested catches and move the chains. We can still double down for a good deep threat prospect with potential to grow in the offense and provide way more (Walker). I think we are on the verge of having arguably one of the most talented pass catching groups in the league. AD/Coleman Samuel Shakir Kincaid Walker Cook Knox Allen would be able to throw all over the field with that group imo. Nobody would immediately have to be the go to guy or have a quota of catches We still have Shorter, Hamler, Isabella in the mix as well
-
I want Mitchell at 33 firstly but I wouldn't be upset if we swapped with WAS for picks 40&100 They have 3 3rds... Get Franklin/Coleman/Conkley at 40, a DT at 60, a Safety and Tez Walker in the 3rd... Still got ammo to move up in rd 3 or acquire another 4th... That's potentially 6 players within the next 3 rds with starter potential or fills needs and you still have 4 picks in rds 5-7 for depth and camp bodies
-
I despise whomever pointed out the 5th year option caveat. Not one single person on this board used that as a justification as to why a player should be picked at 28 as opposed to potentially moving back, gaining draft capital and still being able to acquire said player. Now it's the hot button rebuttal as to why a player (whether we wanted them or not) should've been chosen in the 1st.

So we still have the opportunity to get 1 of the WR's whom many prognosticated or even clamored for in rd 1... Are in great shape to add a DT or S... Recouped a 3rd rd pick... Created flexibilty to address numerous positions in one calendar day... Still can double dip at WR... Have ammo to potentially move back into rd 4... Still have the opportunity to come out of this draft with roughly 6 prospects that actually have the chance to make the team in some capacity... I'm convinced that some are/were more interested in seeing who KC would take just to downplay the Bills decisions either way. The rest of the complaint committee is just in their feelings because the specific player they wanted wasn't viewed the same by the team.
