  1. Hollister is a proven pass catcher on the pro level. Sweeney is not. He's not had much of a chance due to injury. Frankly, we don't know how good he is or isn't. Sweeney is a better blocker. Yes, Gilliam is short. He's also been little used in Buffalo's offense thus far. Of course, he played his college career as a tight end, so he knows the position. He's also very athletic. While he's been little used in the offense thus far, the Bills have seen lots of plays in practice and probably have a better grasp of his potential. Kumerow doesn't have tight end body mass, but he certainly has tight end height and reach. He has great hands and wins one on one battles with DBs. No, Kumerow is not going to run through linebackers, but there are going to be lots of occasions where he could serve as a safety valve in a similar manner to a tight end. At this point, nobody knows why the Bills chose to cut bait with Hollister, but the fact is they did, and they had some reason for doing so.. I expressed an opinion. You have a perfect right to a different one.
  2. I think a collection of factors led to Hollister being released: 1. Sweeney was close to being healthy (practiced today) and gives Buffalo a more rounded TE than Hollister. Sweeney can block. 2. Reggie Gilliam can contribute in multiple TE sets when Buffalo wants to use him there. I understand he practiced as a tight end today. 3. Jake Kumerow can do a lot of the things a receiving TE can do. 4. Buffalo decided to go a little heavier on the OL and receiver position, though Stevenson was sent to the IR (available to return)
  3. The Cincinnati Bengals actually claimed him for their active roster.
  4. I wouldn't be upset if Buffalo swapped out Crosby for Doyle, but I don't think it's a urgent need. Though he's young, Brown has already flashed impressive ability. If they had to put him in, they can probably get by with Doyle, and if he struggles, Ryan Bates can play tackle. Doyle should continue to improve through the season.
  5. Buffalo is going to have more than one CB on the PS IMO, and that probably includes a couple of the rookies they just released.
  6. I don't think that Gilliam will line up as a TE more than a handful of times all season. He's going to spend most of his time in the backfield (a handful of times per game). I wouldn't be shocked if he lined up as WR every once in a while.
  7. There are a few older veterans among the unsigned, but the Bills have shown no interest in any of them. The possibility of a quality CB being released by another team is slim. Most would be no better than those the Bills just cut. I expect at least a couple will end up on the PS.
  8. The good thing about that is that ownership changes much less frequently than GMs in the NFL. Ross is 81. If he's healthy, he could last another decade or more. It should be said that while Charles Robinson insists he's got reliable information that Ross is pushing for Watson, and Mike Florio agrees, the Miami Dolphins insist Ross doesn't involve himself in football decisions, and supports Tua Tagovailoa.
  9. It'll take a few years of supplanting New England as AFC champs to know Bill Belichick off the top of the heap in the minds of national observers.
  10. Granted, I'm one of those who would love to see the remaining unvaccinated Bills just take the plunge, but I think that any perceived unsettledness over COVID, exists in fandom only. I don't think it is given a second thought in the locker room.
  11. Do we know what Sweeny's injury is, and the timetable for recovery? I think the notion of cutting Hollister in hopes of signing him after putting Sweeney on a post 53 IR is kind of risky. Maybe Buffalo is hoping Sweeney is healthy for the Pittsburgh game.
  12. Cam will sign somewhere, but I think his relevance in the NFL is past.
  13. Not sure when one officially turns old. I hit 70 next year. I'm fairly certain I can no longer argue that's middle age. Don't let me down, Buffalo Bills.
  14. Don't forget, they can save on jerseys. He can wear all of Carl Lawson's hand me downs. They're probably even the right size.
  15. That's encouraging. No reason to think they won't all be healthy by the starter. I doubt Bryant will stick with the team and Stevenson may be a practice squad player. Bates is the most important of the three, as he looks like the Bills' backup center.
  16. I was happy with Epenesa's long snapping work. It wasn't perfect, but having an emergency fall back who can do the job in a decent fashion is reassuring.
  17. If he got the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, he can now be considered fully vaccinated sometime in mid or late October.
  18. So he waited for six months, walked around unmasked in Bills facilities for 3 weeks, got himself fined, and now he took the plunge "for the greater good." OK.
  19. I think Dawkins is fine. Just needs work to get in game shape. He'll start the Steelers game barring unforeseen circumstances.
  20. If Josh has one good drive, I think McDermott would pull him. If he shows a little rust, he might get 2 or 3 drives.
  21. I think one of those 8 WRs (Stevenson or Hodgins)goes to the PS and there will be another TE.
  22. Hopefully, having four players out because of COVID protocols is a wake up call for the unvaccinated members of the team to get vaccinated. Yes, you can still get it, but anything you can do to improve your odds. . .
  23. You're right. I must have been looking at numbers for somebody else. His size and speed are both pretty comparable to Brandon Powell.
  24. Agreed. The Bills will give the new guys (Rico Gafford and Steven Simms) auditions in the game on Saturday> Auditions will include return work and maybe a few reps as a slot receiver. Both will probably get cut to reach 53. Beane will say a prayer that the guy they like best sneaks through waivers so they can put him back on the roster. Both are true burners. Gafford is a sub 4.3 guy and Simms is low 4.3s.
