  1. Brown and Phillips are a lot more essential to Buffalo's plans for 2021 than Doyle. I hope the injuries are minor.
  2. Of course, he needs some time, but if he starts playing a lot of minutes and he continues to rely on that one signature move, opposing teams are going to spot it, and the offensive line coach is going to drill his offensive tackles on combatting that move, and Rousseau's effectiveness is going to decline quickly. I'm sure the Bills' defensive line coach has him on a crash course in moves to add to his arsenal. It just takes time and hard work.
  3. I'm not an administrator, but this strikes me as a misleading thread title. All you needed to do was say something like "My Choice for a Surprise Cut." As it is worded, I didn't know if I was going to find an opinion, a prediction or a news flash.
  4. I'm excited about his natural talent, but I think he needs to work on developing a more polished arsenal of pass rush moves.
  5. This is the thorn on the rose. "Only players on the 53-player roster after Sept. 1 are eligible to be designated for return from IR or the non-football injury list." If The Bills can justify putting Doyle on IR, they can do it any time, I don't think they'd worry much about trying to bring him back this season. Sweeney would be pouched if the Bills cut him to try and get him on a return eligible IR. They may or may not be able to sneak Hodgins and Stevenson on to such a return eligible IR.
  6. In the last few seasons, you could only designate a player to return from IR to the 53 man roster if he was IRed after the 53 man roster was reached. I don't know what the rules are this year, but obviously there are changes that have been made.
  7. I think the Bills would rather keep Sweeney on the 53 man roster if they can. Doyle would be a great IR candidate as well as Stevenson and Hodgins. Doyle could probably use an entire year on IR to work out the rough spots in his game. Hodgins and Stevenson can stay on the IR until/unless needed because of injury.
  8. Did some good things, but also let Fields break contain for big yards. I'm sure if the Bills were game planning to defend a mobile and athletic QB like Fields that would be stressed heavily in the preparation, but it's also something that he has to learn.
  9. A little over an hour, maybe an hour and 15 minutes.
  10. At least Dan Campbell possesses good self awareness. "I'm an axxhxxx."
  11. As far as current available free agents are concerned, one can only guess why Buffalo hasn't reached out to anybody. Presumably, they either don't like available possible signings that much, or they don't think the need justifies what somebody they like would cost. Beane will watch the waiver wire because that's what he does. We'll have to wait and see if he does anything besides watch.
  12. The Jets were really counting on Lawson to help upgrade their pass rush. Saleh's defense is predicated on getting pressure from the defensive line.
  13. Well, technically, the Bills are not going to have Josh play. Josh would be more than willing to suit up and play.
  14. Absolutely. With Ankou released, Phillips and Lotulelei are the only true 1 techs on the roster. They are not going to cut Phillips over Vernon Butler. Butler played 1 tech a lot last season, but it's not his natural position, and he's not been effective in this training camp.
  15. Probably so. He's an extreme long shot. If the Bills like him enough, they'll stash him on the PS and hope nobody snaps him up.
  16. I expect significant improvement this year over last season. Probably the biggest reason for that is Star Lotulelei's return to the team combined with increased effectiveness of Harrison Phillips. I think having either of those two guys on the line will prevent offensive lines from doubling the 3 tech guys next to them. That will give Oliver and Zimmer (I think Vernon Butler may be gone) more opportunity to make plays in the running game and be disruptive in the passing game. Buffalo also has several flex players they can insert inside on passing downs, players they didn't have a year ago: Rousseau, Basham and Efe Obada. They could probably even stick Daryll Johnson inside. On the outside, the quality of their depth is much improved over last season. Since the Bills employ a heavy rotation on the defensive line, this should make a huge difference. Obviously, the starters at LB are the same (I'm assuming a base D with 2 linebackers. The difference is Buffalo now knows how to use AJ Klein if he subs for Milano. Andre Smith appears to be a quality multi position backup, and Joe Giles-Harris is quality competition. Dodson is a good athlete who is continuing to develop his tools. Klein is 30, but the rest of the linebackers who will make this squad are all young or in their prime. It's not going to be nearly the difference we could see on the defensive line, but I expect to see steadier play at linebacker with less drop off when Milano or Edmunds are out.
  17. There was a Russian gymnast at the Olympics who had an Achilles rupture in April, I think. He competed and medaled, I believe. Astounding. Expectations are, if Lawson ruptured his Achilles, that he would easily miss the entire season and may still be less than 100% when he reports to camp next year.
  18. There are those who think that KC just didn't take lesser opponents seriously and didn't put out a really good effort in a lot of their close wins. Clearly, Buffalo needs to play a lot better than last January if they want to beat KC when they play them again.
  19. I don't get to many games, but apart from the first game I ever went to, my experiences have generally been good. I am a non-drinker. While some fans nearby had beers, I've not seen many get really drunk. I haven't seen any out of control behavior. The first game I went to, I saw enough of that too last me a long time.
  20. Beane does not "overthink" the draft like some GMs. He gives a lot of weight to college production, along with football character and athleticism. Rousseau didn't play in 2020, but was outstanding in 2019. A lot of people tried to second guess that production. He got sacks while playing inside. He cleaned up after other players did the dirty work. Yeah, but one way or another he figured out how to get to the QB.
  21. I'm assuming Kumerow was on the field early in the game, but Buffalo's plan was to go heavily run early in the game. Trubisky only had a couple of pass attempts. There were other WRs who were invisible as well. I don't think the Bills believe there is any problem there.
  22. If Dawkins didn't have COVID and allowed himself to come in in such terrible shape, that's more worrisome than if he had been deathly siick. As it is, it sounds as if he's at least somewhat in McDermott's doghouse and will have to endure some hard coaching to get out. The Bills, and Josh Allen need him to be solid this season.
  23. You know if he's willing, Sean McDermott will welcome him to hang around during a practice session and interact with his linebacker group giving tips. That's a McDermott trademark.
  24. I agree that Brieda's strengths are probably never going to include running inside with lots of traffic, but if he only runs outside the tackles, every DC the Bills face will know it and strategize accordingly. He has to be at least somewhat effective inside to have effectiveness outside. Buffalo cut 3 offensive linemen. I assume that's because they were worse than Bobby Hart. I watched Hart too, and I know he's lousy. I very much doubt he makes the 53 man roster, but there's plenty of time to cut him. I'm guessing Doyle is destined for the PS. He's athletic enough to play tackle in the NFL, but needs far more work to get there than he can get in one training camp. No need to be in a hurry. Yeah Stevenson had a nice play. I think he had a decent return as well. I think the coaches are ready to commit to Isaiah McKenzie. Stevenson is likely another PS candidate.
