McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"
MPL replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just came here to say this. Here's the comments McD made about the MLB spot aimed at Bernard almost exactly 2 years ago. -
If you are cutting Hamlin, do it now...
MPL replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Is today still considered NOW? or can we move on from this since they haven't cut him? -
That's just Gabe Davis with a glasses and a mustache disguise.

Guys. Satire. Don’t quote me with your serious responses as to why preseason isn’t going away. Thanks. -

One Thing No One Is Talking About Regarding Last Night's Game
MPL posted a topic in The Stadium Wall
A lot of talking points are going around after last night's game. But the one thing that no one is talking about is how irresponsible it is for the NFL to let fans view preseason games. Yes, it's live football. But it's not football intended for fan consumption. Fans don't know how to process what they are seeing. Look at the results of last night's game. The NFL has worked this unassuming message board into an absolute friendzy. We have panic posting being labeled as, "I'm not panicking." We're fantasizing about 2024 draft pics being cut. And over in Chicago? My goodness, what a fever they've been whipped into over in the windy city after Caleb Williams stepped up into that beautiful pocket play after play while Landon Jackson tried his best to not move like a figurine on a slot-hockey machine, and Caleb floated perfect grapefruit after perfect grapefruit over the head of UDFA Walk-On Player Joe Andreesen. It's unfair and downright cruel to those fans to dangle that carrot in front of their eyes. And all because the NFL had to flip on a few cameras and Fox Sports was like, "yeah, we'll show your little football practice because no one is watching baseball anymore." The NFL has gone too far. They say they care about the fans but it's things like this that show they don't give a damn about us. Because if the NFL truly cared about its fans, they wouldn't expose us to preseason football and then leave us on our own to interpret it. Shame on you, NFL. Televising preseason football is irresponsible. File under: Satire.- 28 replies

Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
MPL replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
What it showed is that if all the Bills starters get the flu, the subs are not going to be very good. Which if you think about it is why they're subs. What really matters is, how does the team look if all but one or two are starters and one or two are backups -- does the entire system continue to work well? (Excepting the D line which rotates players frequently.) Yes, if we're in a position this season where those exact 11 players are on the field together, we're f'd. But that scenario only happens if we're up by 50 in the 4th quarter or the starters all eat bad subs from the only remaining Jreck Subs in Booneville and all come down with e.coli — which I'd say has a less than .00001% chance of happening. -
Don't forget that Gabe Davis was the future after his first season! Andreesen does not get deep enough in coverage, and he is consistent about not getting deep enough. They even showed him getting chewed out on Hard Knocks because of it. This puts a lot of stress on the safeties and I do believe that this was a big reason that the safety play looked exceptionally shaky last night. Just like I try to not take too much stock in what WRs look like when Mike White is throwing the ball, I try to take into consideration that Bishop and Hamlin are NEVER going to be on the field with the front 7 that was out there last night.

Elijah Moore.......I think he is trending toward not making the roster
MPL replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
But Moore was included in this choice. If you’re playing with 2nd and 3rd strings you are considered as 2nd and 3rd string. Top 4 Coleman Shakir Palmer and Samuel. Moore has done nothing to leap frog Samuel. Imo top you dont need special teams ability in the top 4 after that you do. I have Shavers solid at wr 5. Question do you keep 6? Instead of Codrington Shenualt or Hamler for return duties. I dont want Codrington on the roster. I think Moore is firmly on the bubble. I havent seen anything that warrants him on the roster over Samuel. After that he doesnt offer anything to special teams to warrant a role. Looking at the financials cutting Samuel is pricey. Moore has not warranted that kind of investment. I think the receivers they ran out to start the game last night was pretty indicative of the depth chart, and the lack of availability of Samual and Shakir at the moment. They view Moore in the same role as Shakir. The depth chart has Hamler listed behind Coleman and Samual, which is interesting. Moore played the first half and I believe Hamler played the 2nd half. The reports out of the Bills Bears joint practice was that Moore's connection with Allen was starting to pop and that they connected on some nice chunk plays in 11 on 11s. I think there is more to Moore than what we've seen in our limited view. When Mike White, or even Mitch, is playing QB, I take all WR reps with a grain of salt. Shavers has had some nice moments. The comeback route last night was a good rep. He had a great release on the go route but then started looking back to the QB causing him to slow down and then wasn't able to catch up to White's throw. I think they're going to keep 6 at WR this year: Coleman, Palmer, Shakir, Samuel, Moore, and Shavers. If they keep 6 WR, I'm not convinced they'll keep a roster spot just for return duty. Ray Davis has returned kicks. Shakir has returned punts. -

MPL replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
I refuse to judge Elijah Moore in a game where your 3rd QB and backup O-Line are playing the majority of the game. Also, I don't think Moore and Shavers are competing for the same roster spot. If Shavers makes the team, he's likely the 6th WR, or they cut Samuel... but I think carrying 6 WR is more likely even though they haven't typically done that. -
Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
MPL replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Last night’s d-line consisted of 3 rookies and 1 2nd-year players — all of which are backups or players considered to be projects — against a Bears starting offense that had something to prove in Ben Johnson’s first home preseason game. These are the first game reps these guys have played against nfl starters. Of course there was no effective pass rush. Dane Jackson was your CB1 on the night against DJ Moore. Let’s all relax. Last night showed nothing.- 188 replies

I hope so time to run the Shane Train on them.

Do we get 2 quarters of Shane buechle now?
-
I was convinced that Caleb Williams was going to be the offensive rookie of the year after the Bills vs. Bears preseason game last year... I wouldn't put too much stock into the Bears O making a few plays out there. But our Defense also had warts last year, so, I don't know. Hairston being able to come in and take over the that #2 CB spot is likely going to be the story this year.

CJ Spiller’s yards per carry and rushing TDs that year would suggest the offense did not have any holes
