Given Beane's recent comments in his Fairburn interview, this is no great leap by Rodak. Lawson is clearly on notice that his effort, commitment, and performance have not been good enough. I would hate to see them give up on Lawson too quickly, but he needs to pick it up and keep it picked up if we wants to stick.

Does anyone else plan on getting a subscription to The Athletic?
FLFan replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do read on-line reporting of the Bills and Sabres daily, as well as other sports and team, although much of it is bad. I feel like I could value out of it, but to each his own. In the case of Fairburn, absolutely yes. He had become a go to reporter for me out of the Syracuse outlet, doing a far better job than the BN guys or the dolts in Rochester. Graham, the jury is out on. They also have John Vogel covering the Sabres who is pretty good, and Kris Baker writing on the Sabres who is outstanding in analysis. like I said, worth a shot for $40 for the year. -

I do not mind paying for good journalism - actual insight and analysis and good old fashioned reporting based on delving into the teams and the relevant organizations. The BN Blitz has not been that. Perhaps they will improve having ditched some of the dead weight. The Athletic seems to be legit and I will probably give it a try for $40 and a free tee shirt, given they do have a Buffalo sports focus area and some reporters that know the ground and have shown good work in the past. That said, I am skeptical about Timmy's value add. He is a good reporter and writer when he focuses on that, but I can't stand his snarky, arrogant attitude. If he leaves that at home and just does the job, could be good. I am not betting on that though. -
Be careful. If you say his name three times he reappears. That's one.

To me, Tre is a perfect example of what McD is preaching about the kind of guys he wants on his football team. High character factor, and very skilled. The two are not mutually exclusive. White is an example of the effect of that combination on the team. We have had talented players with little to no character, and we see what that produces.

5 Way-too-Early picks from CBS
FLFan replied to 1st Ammendment NoMas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree with this. I am not concerned about the final record, but I do think they will be competitive. Next year will be when we should begin to see it all come together. (if they hit on Allen and Edmunds that is) -
5 Way-too-Early picks from CBS

Not sure where all the holes are on the defense, but whatever. The offense is certainly a giant question, starting with line, unknown at WR at best, and new OC. That said, I am not willing to write of the offense like many are until I see how this all comes together. Could be worse (hard to believe given how bad it was last year), but also could be appreciably better with the addition of Dabol alone. This team could well be competing for a playoff position, or be 6 and 10, depending on the breaks. Either way, they are nowhere near the first overall pick. -
Tyrod Taylor: I still feel that I’d done more than enough to stay
FLFan replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except Drew Brees did not have 3 years as a starter and 7 in the league at that point. Not an apt comparison. Tyrod is what he is at this point. He is not Drew Brees about to blossom.- 684 replies

Typical pretentious take by Jerry Sullivan in his parting shot to his long time employer. Good riddance to both he and Gleason, who anointed themselves the "defenders of the realm" and justified their constant negativity as "fair, objective, and passionate" when it only occasionally was. What they did not seem to understand is that being a constant contrarian does not equate to fair and objective, and eventually becomes very boring, if not outright annoying, while alienating the very people in the organizations they are assigned to write about. This made them both ineffective and "bad for business" in the end. Perhaps the News will look for a new columnist who does not just pretend to care about the fans, but actually demonstrates it by taking their job seriously, and not themselves.

I listened to it, and do not see what is "bone chilling" about. These guys are not credible even a little bit.

More likely he would be mounted by Tom Brady.

Having a hard time caring what a second rate talent like Colt McCoy thinks about the coaching he received. He obviously did not listen or was incapable of translating the coaching into performance, no matter the coach.

Crack, more like it.

I do not miss the clown show one bit. I am perfectly happy with boring, quote free press conferences so long as there are tangible results in evidence on the field. As for injuries, McD opens his PCs with injury updates as well.

A matter of perspective I guess. Your conclusion is a reasonable one, but I see it differently: 1. Pass offense - hard to be worse than 31st, but possible I guess. I think they are better from a passing offense perspective at QB. Although they will miss the occasional spectacular improvisional play from Taylor, this can be made up by having an actual passing QB. We will see. A healthy Benjamin and year 2 for Jones makes this immediately better, assuming Benjamin can remain in the lineup and Jones does take a step. Assumptions but not unreasonable. I like the potential of Streeter and a few of the younger guys. Not world beaters but adequate. Certainly no worse than last year. Better depending on Benjamin. TE - serviceable if not spectacular. 2. OL - Losing Incognito hurts. Not clear whether any of others can step up. Woods was good, but not dominant and could be replaced by Groy fairly easily based on past experience, and Bodine could also factor in. Not worried there. Dawkins had already supplanted Glenn. RT no change. We drafted a very promising rookie guard. I do not believe the doom and gloom around the OL is warranted. 3. RB - Older, yes, but I believe better depth than last year. If Shady goes down, its all over. Same as it has been. 4. Defense - agree - should be better. Probably just a glass half full guy, but I think this team is improved. That does not guarantee results of course - they got some breaks last year - but I see them as competitive for the playoffs, and certainly not championship caliber. 6 to 10 win range depending on the breaks.

Gregg Rosenthal: AFC East Projected Starters

Maybe you will be praying for Tyrod's return, but not me. Done with that. It is way too early for the doom and gloom predictions. -

Mike Gillislee in danger of not making Patriots roster

The Bills did tender him, and also offered a two year contract. NE offered more money. -
Every Josh Allen TD pass in 2016/2017

Very impressive, and its easy to see what the Bills saw in him. I have seen the lowlight reels too, so I am not blind to his flaws, but man, when he is on he is impressive. Optimistic.
