The point is we don’t know but the Bills coaches and front office staff probably think that they do. If Spencer Brown can’t go, then I prefer they try either Jamal Williams or Ryan Bates at RG over Ford. They are already on the team, they know the playbook and the line calls. If we picked up Ferentz tonight he would not even be ready to play Sunday anyway.
-
If Ferentz stinks as bad as Ford then we are better off with our own stinky player, at least knows he already knows the playbook.

The loss of Knox has caught up to us

Lee Smith was the only contributor in bunch. We can really use him inside the 10. He could block like an OT and he could find creases in the end zone. I never understood why people didn’t like him, he had a limited role but he filled it well IMO. -
How are you sure of this? Why did the Pats* release him?

Certainly the poor performance against theJags is concerning. Unfortunately, the chances of improving the OL right now is minuscule. Any player we bring in has to learn the offense, so the player has to slow down and think rather than let it flow. If Spencer Brown can play Sunday that puts Ford back on the bench. If not, then maybe we see Ryan Bates or Jamal Douglas. They can’t be worse. Everybody on the line needs to play better and help support whoever is in there. The window was there to trade for another OG but for whatever reason a deal was not made. I suspect Beane tried to make a move but the right deal was not there. The trade deadline is now past. We can pull a player from another teams PS but that player has to dress that week and how long will it take a young player to learn the offense? It is not easy to plug into the OL, it takes weeks to become serviceable. RB would be easier to backfill and right now we have options with Brieda and Williams. One of them will replace Moss. They may add a spark. I think the immediate problem is the OL, especially the OG’s. A great line can make an average runner look very good, but even a great runner will struggle with a below average line. Yes. And let’s stop the sideline lateral passes for one yard. Those plays don’t work.
-
Exactly. I was told that numerous times last year when I said we could take a guard in the first or second round if there is a sure starter there. I can see us taking Rousseau at 1, but not another DE at 2. Athletic guards that are strong at pass blocking and run blocking are not easy to find.

Good points. Looking at the running game, we really didn’t improve it. Out moves were: at OL (added rookie tackles), RB (added Brieda), and nothing at TE (other than Knox’s development). Defenses are catching up to our passing game, just like KC’s, so we have to find a way to be better in the ground game. Some teams match up and stop us, if we can’t counter and adjust like we did versus Miami, we are going to have problems. The problems aren’t team culture if we play teams that match up and take away what we do best.
-
Agree. Williams runs with some power, which will be lacking without Moss.

0.22 Yards before contact in the running game.

We can get by with this line: Dawkins - Feliciano - Morse - Williams - Brown We drop considerably with any other combination. Take two players out like now and we are below average. -
The culture doesn’t change from week to week. The culture is fine. Work Habits and attitude change faster than culture and they need to get back to humble and hungry. They need to prepare better. They have to learn that past success does not mean a thing. They can be hunters or they can be the hunted. Yesterday they were clearly the hunted. The bubble popped. They did not play over their heads versus anybody and the Titans have done nothing to be considered elite either. They need to go back to working harder, and proving themselves every day.

I saw it from the beginning. They were flat. Some of the loss was mental readiness and some was the poor play of the OL that stymied the entire offense. Missing two starters and with a 3rd guy out of position, the communication up front looked to be poor. I put this on Daboll and McD. There were too many untouched Jags getting to Allen. The talk of “stacking wins” needs to stop. That term in itself is looking forward. This is one week at a time league.
-
Sure can’t argue with that. On that subject, I wonder why they stopped going to the end zone? One trip in the red zone on our first drive and we run and pass sideways. Seems like flooding our receivers into the end zone and a Josh RPO would be a good thing to try inside the 7.

Yes. The overall team defense is hard to argue with though. It’s a shame that they hold a team to 9 points on the road, despite 3 offensive turnovers, and we can’t win the game. The OL is the cause of many problems, it starts up front. -
Good assessment. The Jags had a plan to get into our heads. Their receivers went after Tre White twice in the he first series. The goaded us into retaliation penalties all day leading to FOUR unsportsmanlike penalties on Buffalo. I do think the penalties hurt our offensive rhythm more than you indicated. There was a procedure penalty on 4th and 2 that forced us to punt. It looked like the defense encroached. CBS did not show the replay. Our punter then kicked a line drive into the end zone for a net 23. Frustrating plays happened all day. There was an unnecessary roughness on RT Williams that killed a drive and it looked like a bad call. The Jags took the Miami film and exposed us. There is no Buffalo running game to worry about. Keep Allen in the pocket by applying blitz pressure from the ends. The OL could not run block and they were confused on stunts and blitzes. Many untouched defenders got to Allen. Josh Allen was all we had and it was not enough. For all his mistakes, Josh produced 314 yards combined passing and running. Singletary/Moss together only produced 22 yards running. The Bills had 301 yards total offense when you factor in the 4 sacks allowed (-35 yards). The premature talk of home field in the playoffs can now stop. The first step is always to win the division title and New England is now just 1/2 a game out and they are improving. Bellichek has more film to study on this one. Like it or not Urban Meyer out-coached us. Daboll had no answers, no adjustments. McD had some curious moments as well. The Jets are improving and will be a very hard road test. All of a sudden we look average and we are in a battle.

1990: Will Wolford - Jim Richter - Kent Hull - John Davis - House Ballard Yesterday: Dawkins - Boettger - Morse - Ford - Williams. There is no comparison between the two lines and the 90’s OL back ups were also much better. Even with Feliciano back at LG, Spencer Brown at RT, and Williams at RG there is no comparison. 1990 KGun RBs : Thurman Thomas, Kenny Davis, with FB’s Jamie Mueller and Carnell Garner Yesterdays RBs : Singletary, Moss, Taiwan, Gilliam or Brieda running back talent is not close. Neither is versatility such as ability to catch down field and the ability to block. Kenny Davis was far better than any back on the current roster. None of them could touch Thomas or even deserves to be in the conversation. 1990 TEs: McKeller, Metzellars, Rolle. Yesterday TE: Sweeney, Q Morris, K Warring, (Knox injured) 1990 TEs we’re all multi faceted. McKelkars was a multiple threat player. Metzellars could block like an OT and catch passes. With Knox out the current TE cast has no real contributions from anyone. The 2021 Bills are Josh Allen, some very good receivers, an excellent defense, and a good PK. They have a very questionable OL with no depth, no running game outside of Allen, and a below average punter. Our team defense in 2021 is better, especially the DBs. -

No time to get deep. The OL didn’t block, looked like they didn’t know who to block at times. Jax was getting to Allen untouched. Daboll had no answer. No screens, no draws, no slants … Makes me wonder what is happening in practice and preparation. -
The trade deadline has passed ... So now what ??

The Bills don’t deserve this level of fan support
Bob in STL replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is a very good team trying to be a great team. It’s a journey. It could take a few years to win a title. The team made up of a lot of great professionals, and great people, and they are fun to watch and follow. This team deserves great support. You are pouting. ROI is an odd take if you are a dedicated fan that supports them. You love football and the Bills then ROI is not a consideration. -
Was this the worst upset loss in team history?
Bob in STL replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was watching in the mid 60’s. This was one of the most surprising, horrendous, bizarre, and disappointing games I’ve seen. They can use this as a much needed wake up call, or not. -

Pats are 4-4 with a rookie QB and almost top 10 defense

The Pats* have a lot of new players. They are just starting to get the system there. They will be a challenge. -
Some People expect a pro bowl difference maker because of his draft position. Unrealistic but true.
