I totally agree with this and will add that if there was a DE that they really liked enough to take early, they likely would've kept their 1st. Brandon Beane says that there aren't enough good pass rushers to go around. I could see them trading for one in the future.

With 2 young backs aon the roster already, it really surprises me that Denver is the the team that lands him. The Bucs made the most sense. Maybe the Broncos move Lindsey or Freeman for a day 3 pick.

No longer are the days, where we are keeping our fingers crossed, to sign a guy like Bryant Johnson, because that's the best we can do. We can finally dream big, and in some cases like the Diggs trade, it becomes reality. I just wanted to quickly reflect, and say how nice it is to be a Buffalo Bills fan today.

Before FA started, I thought the priorities were WR, DE, and OT. We traded for Diggs, and also no 1st round pick. It obviously pushes the need all the way down. No longer a need, but a luxury pick. We resigned Spain, and brought back Waddle. This also tells us their plans with Ford, which pushes OT down as well. We have signed a lot of guys on the DL, but still no premier pass rusher. Addison seems like a solid pickup, but a bandaid at beat. DE remains the only missing core piece. I don't expect us to address DE this year, unless a premier pass rusher becomes available via trade, and we give up something this year and next years 1st. Pipe dream type scenario (bosa/mack) For the draft, I expect this to truly be PBA, but I feel like a top flight number 2 CB to complement Tre, or maybe a top interior OL. It's really tough to figure out, which is a good thing. I'm loving what we've done so far, really looking forward to the draft.

I couldn't agree more, and it takes time for rookie receivers to develop. Not much else, could've helped our offense as much as this.

Mohammed Sanu went for a 2 last year. I obviously preferred Hopkins like everyone else, but there was no way HOU was making a deal with Buffalo. There was bad blood between Bill O'Brien and Brian Gaines. Not to mention, we gave them all they could handle in the playoffs. It takes two to tango. WR is one of the hardest positions to project in the NFL, and it typically takes receivers about 3yrs, to take form.

I think this was overblown, he did get mad, but there was context that was left out. He got mad, because in big games, like the must win against the Bears backup QB, cousins folded like a lawn chair. After Diggs called Cousins out, Cousins started to let it rip.

I'm not against getting a receiver early, as in the 1st round. I just don't want to give away picks to do it. At the end of the day, you win in the trenches, and we still need a pass rusher and at least 1 oline. I wouldn't mind if we went WR/DE, OT, WR, with our 1st 4 picks. Ideally for me, I would prefer we trade up in the 2nd, or trade back into the bottom of the 3rd, to nab our 2nd WR. I heard the other day that on average, 12 WR get drafted in the 1st 3 rounds. This year, they said there are as many as 27 WRs with a day one/day 2 grade. Come 3rd round, there's probably going to be a guy or 2, that has no business still being there.

I would rather double up on an Elite class, than spend all my draft capital on 1. Especially when history shows us, that it's not uncommon for day 2 guys, to outperform day 1guys.

Justin Jefferson looks a lot like Robert Woods to me. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a Robert Woods on our team, but not as a 1, or X receiver.

I'm a big fan of Mimms, and Badazz. Mimms caught my eye a few weeks back. Like the majority of us, I was doing some armchair GM/YouTube scouting, and besides the consensus top 2 (lamb,Jeudy), the 2 that popped off the screen for me was Mimms, and Ruggs. I also like Jefferson. I like Mimms, because we can potentially draft a top OT, or DE with or 1st pick, and get someone like Mimms or Jefferson in the 2nd. Mimms just looks like a specimen. He's not just big, or fast, he's both, and can also play the position.

Great post! I couldn't agree more. Unless Jeudy or Lamb slips all the way to 22 (highly unlikely), value isn't there to go WR in the 1st. Many teams could use WR help, but few will spend their 1st pick on it. A run is more likely to happen in the 2nd round.

I was on the Metcalf train last year, but view Metcalf as a completely different style player. I thought he would've been a perfect match for Josh's skill set. I think that with a bigger guy, Josh would be more willing to throw a 50/50 ball, instead of overthrowing guys by 10 yds.

That's what scares me most about this guy. I'm not exactly a resident expert, but that's the overall impression I'm left with. You summed up how I feel. Just like some of the older QB's are starting to be overtaken by the young gun slingers. Who's the next AJ Green in this draft? I don't say Julio, because he's too rare.

I think Jeudy and Lamb are considerably better than all the rest. They both seem to have elite speed, and are over 6'. Shenault looks like a good swiss army knife to have, but not like your typical X receiver, that we desperately need. I know they'll likely be long gone, but it seems like every year, receivers go in a different order than expected. If Jeudy or Lamb slips a few spots, make sure you get them. Outside of those two, go BPA in the 1st and than maybe trade up in the 2nd for a WR, if you really like them. I agree, that we absolutely need to provide Josh with more weapons, but picking up a WR, doesn't outweigh a pass rusher or elite offensive lineman if available at pick 22. Teams with elite lines, are the ones that are winning Superbowls, not elite WR's. Elite TE's might be a different story.

I agree with most of what your wrote, at least from the approach aspect. Difference of opinion on a few players, but agree for the most part. I would like to see them double dip at WR. If somehow Amari Cooper walks, we need to go all in on him. Kind of had a down year, but that whole team was off. The culture there was all screwed up. He's a rare talent, that doesn't possess the diva trait that most WR's have. The same thing with AJ Green, except he's older and injured. If we sign a guy like Green, we still have to draft his replacement, which also serves as insurance policy against injury. Also need a complementary battering ram to Singletary. Still a lot of work to do on offense.

I always look forward to your detail write-ups, but your story at the end there, was by far my favorite part this week. How sweet it is!

I don't know if he would've gotten to it, but he definitely mistimed his jump. Fouts saw and mentioned the same thing during the broadcast. Said that it looks like he could of gotten that extra needed step to get to the ball, had he not jumped early. But he's a RB, and it's hard to blame him. Josh missed plenty of throws, outside of that one. But he also was dealing with a lot of blitzing, and often times, our guys were not winning their matchups. As a whole, our offense got dominated by their defense. Josh needs to improve, but he also needs a better supporting cast. I know that we made a ton of moves this past offseason, but that only moved the needle from historically bad to respectable. Now we need to move the needle again, from respectable to good. Keep improving the o-line, and add a dynamic weapon in the passing game, starting with a big but fast receiver that can match up well. Someone who maybe would've caught that ball that Brown got beat on. Brown would also have a lot more success, if he slides down to WR2.

As I mention above, below average screen game. I don't know why. When we call it? How it's designed (poor disguise)? Maybe both, along with other factors.

It was early and often, and we did a very poor job of countering. The best way to counter blitzing, is with quick screens. Use the other teams aggression against them. Unfortunately, we have a below average screen game.

Martindale took Daboll to school, and it wasn't even close. I know JA had a bad game, but he was absolutely getting killed, from the opening whistle, all the way until the end of the game. Even against cover 0, it's hard to beat when guys get there, as fast as they did. Several times, I saw someone come straight up the middle with a free shot at Allen. That led to sacks and a lot of other big hits. I thought he was going to get killed yesterday, and was shocked that he finished the game. Like another poster pointed out, Baltimore was vulnerable on the edges, yet we decided to try and attack the middle of their defense way too often. I was screaming at the TV and pulling my hair out. Frank Gore.....up the middle. and then we get to the half yard line, and we try a sweep with Gore to the outside. That single play almost cost us the only TD of the game. Big physical defenses like NE and Baltimore have to be attacked with backs and TE's. Forced those big heavy LB's into coverage. Thats why we started having success against NE. They had a hard time covering yeldon. It's also what NE does with White all the time, and KC with Kelce. We should of played a 2 back set with Singletary and TJ Yeldon, to serve as extra pass protectors against the blitz, and also for quick screens and outlets. fake screen to one side, and hit the other side. It was as bad and vanilla as a game plan that I've seen.
