Jags listening to trade calls for Brian Thomas
Allen2Moulds replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nothing is free of risk. Cons - Currently has the dropsies, underperforming, alligator arming passes. Appears to be a disconnect between him and new regime. Pros - young, cheap, elite talent that translated to the next level. Elite speed/size/hands combo, that could make the Bills offense potentially scary, or near unstoppable. There have been tons of WRs, including some with yellow jackets, that hated going across the middle, and weren't good at it. For this reason, many of them weren't asked to, at least not on a regular basis. How often did we see Randy Moss going across the middle? I currently think they are severely miss using this guy, and bringing out the worst in him. Value will be somewhere between how he's currently performing, and what he has shown in the past. From there you try and figure out the why, and that leads you more to one side or the other. These tall slender guys are not built to run them through traffic. What makes them special on the outside, is what hurts them going across the middle. That's why I believe that Jamar Chase is better than Justin Jefferson. The guy has elite speed, but is also built like a truck, and bounces off of guys in the middle of the field. -

This is what they have to say once word is leaked. At least until he's on a new team. I would trade them a 1st, anyone of our Wrs, except Shakir and a day 3 pick. -

I watched that play live and I think he would've been short anyhow. This is how I truly felt before all of this. He knew he had to turn up super quickly to have a chance, and did the classic turn up field before securing the catch. -
I was super excited about about the Max pick. Elite speed and quickness. Elam for example was a 4.3 guy, but was not quick. That's why he was such a jersey grabber. Max is both, and has a great understanding of zone coverage. I've been very critical of Beane, but he seems to be correcting his draft failures on his second go round. 1st go round. OG- Cody Ford (2nd round) Bust. Rb - Moss and Singletary (meh) kind of a bust. CB - Kair Elam (1st round) Bust. 2nd go round OG - Cybo (2nd round) really good pick. Above average day 1 starter. RB - Cook (2nd round) homerun. Top 5 back. CB - Mad Max. (1st rounder) Too early to call, but based off 1st impression, already better than anything we ever saw from Elam. I think this kid will be Beanes 3rd homerun. 4th if we were to count Walker, but I'm not including dline yet.

Your not concerned about his tackling? That's the only thing for me, I agree with the rest. But I'm also excited to see more of Hancock. I don't think people realize that Hancock has a 6'4" wingspan.

Joe B (The Athletic) on passing game problems (with data)

I agree with you, but believe it started a week earlier against NE. Josh tried to use his legs in that game to bail out the horrible play calling, and the NE defenders absolutely punished him. It's as hard as I've seen him get hit. You can see it on his face as well. -

In watching again, there are some open guys. I don't know what the heck Josh was thinking or doing on that one. I'm watching on my phone, so its hard to make out, but the underneath screen is def available. If moore is the deep one on the bottom of the screen, there was also def a window there before the safety closes it. Josh right now is not very decisive or confident. I do think that all the blitzes and hits from the NE and Atlanta game, messed up his internal clock. -

I don't know, I have to respectfully disagree. On that 1st one, the DB is in good trail position to make a pbu. The second one, was no doubt a bad throw. I've noticed a few times a disconnect between Moore and Josh. I think Josh threw it where he expected him to be. The other thing I'm not seeing much of in these videos are clear outs. Multiple receivers running into the same zone, to put the defender into conflict. -

I think in this case both things are right. Plus, we can make a mid-season trade for a WR, can't do anything about the OC, other than hope that he improves going forward. -
I really like what I've seen from Dalton to start the year, unfortunately he was banged up most of last year, and like it or not, the season ended with a ball going through his arms. Not an easy catch, but the type of play that makes it into your SB highlight tape. And here we are and he's banged up again this year. I have to see it, and can no longer play the what if game with these guys.

That Giants team won because it was lead by a hall of fame DE, and had 4-5 superb pass rushers. Also had Brandon Jacob's which at the time was a poor man's Derek Henry. Plaxico was still a 1000yd 12td guy, far from washed. Also caught the game winner if I remember correctly.

When you have a top 2 QB in the league, of course expectations will be high. That said, Josh and the whole passing offense looks off. To me it's a combination of 3 or 4 things. 1. The oline not playing as well, leading to a lot of hard hits against NE and Atlanta. 2. Not trusting the WRs to win, or be in the spots their suppose to be in. It's leading to a lot of 2nd guessing. Hence the comment about trusting his feet. 3. Joe Bradys subpar game plans the last few weeks, and how he chose to attack certain teams. Failed to attack the middle of the field with TEs and backs against NE, a weakness they've shown. Abandoned the run against a fast but light Atlanta team. That should've been a bully ball game like the one today. 4. Accumulative effect of 1-3.
-
I know that your opinion more or less is that because we invested in the oline, Josh has to make due with the receivers he's been dealt. I have to mention to you that the greatest QB of alltime with a good oline and below average WRs, could not win. That man is of course Tom Brady. That last year or 2 in NE, he had some subpar weapons, and it looked like the end was near for Tommy Boy. Goes to Tampa, a team with good weapons and wins another SB. Whos the last team to win a SB with this level of WR play?

I thought I saw one Qb sweep today. Didn't think it was necessary with the way we were running.
-
If you rewatch that Patriots game, he absolutely got hammered. Hasn't been right since. That's why we have to do everything we can, to not allow teams to load up and tee off.

Is this your assumption, what are you basing this off of? -

If we rushed like that every week, we would be undefeated. Unfortunately their are good run fronts out there. We still need another WR. This game changes nothing for me on the offensive side.- 315 replies

Jags listening to trade calls for Brian Thomas

I think the majority of us felt it was a lot more likely that KC was the best case scenario, and not this week. Given the slow prognosis, and missed training camp. However, McDermott must really like what he saw this week in practice. Now let's go get Brian Thomas. -

I do still have to push back on the Clayton thing. Again, that's an anomaly. Even with his horrific start, he's on pace for 886yds, which I would still categorize it as a sophomore slump. Clayton never even cracked 500yds, after his rookie season . Thomas already has more than what Clayton did in his entire 2nd year. I think we are far off before we can make that comparison. -

I respect your opinion of a 2nd round value. That would provably be the bottom end of this trade value, with the top end as a 1+. Depends on your appetite for risk. -

It could also be a miss match. What's the difference between how he was being used last year, compares to this year?
