Some time around 2-3 weeks ago, it feels like the team turned a corner. I expect next year to be a big move forward, like ending up 10-15 in the conference and nowhere near the bottom finish we will have this year....but still not good enough for playoffs. Playoffs come in 2023-24. It's amazing how many years we have lost to this rebuild! It's actually criminal.

Did anyone go to University but not make any friends there?
Nextmanup replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall
It's not just "university"...it's "University" with no article before it. Americans: "I went to a university" or "I went to the university". British Commonwealth folk: "I went to university". You hear this with other things too in Canada...."We're going to Skydome to see the game." "We went to hospital after the car crash." It's Brit-speak....which makes it proper English. We Americans are the bastard children speaking the weird off-shoot of the language....and Aussies, and South Africans, and New Zealanders, and Canadians, and.... It depends on what sort of experience you had or were looking for IMO. I was a commuter and really regret my approach to college. The upside is that I was all business about it and got top marks, which helped me get into law school and formed the foundation of my professional life and life in general. If I had been living on campus I would have been chasing girls 24/7 and been totally distracted---my grades would most definitely not been as good and who knows how things would have turned out. I would tell young kids now (including my nephews who are going through this right now) to strongly consider going away and truly immersing in the college experience that I didn't have. I think that's still the right way to do it. Well, you live and you learn. Anyway, you can't change history and at age 18 I was still quite immature and in no way prepared to move away from home and live on my own, immerse in the social aspects of college, and be a top student. I suppose the circumstances are different for each individual. -
Didn't know that. I just found out that Nick O'Leary is Jack Nicklaus' grandson!

Was Allen the top prospect on the Bills board?
Nextmanup replied to SoMAn's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let's hope that wasn't the case. You don't want Pegula anywhere near that type of hands-on micromanagement. -
Tyreek seeking a trade [Now: Traded to the Dolphins]

KC just got a lot more beatable come playoff time next year! Good day for Bills fans. -
The entire signing is based on risk vs. reward. It's only a 1 year deal and so the overall risk is kind of minimal, but the hope is that we will find a way to get more out of him than has happened in the past. You'd have to say his career is a disappointment to date; he represents unrealized potential. We're taking a 1 year gamble that we can unlock that potential, as he has immense natural athletic talent. Seems like a good enough plan to me.

When he was a young kid and destroying people in 20-30 seconds on random HBO fights, I absolutely LOVED Mike Tyson... But then when he bit Evander's ear I hated him! That was such a thug move. He seems to have mellowed with age, which is a good thing.

If you watch some of the more recent Ryan Leaf interviews floating around on Youtube, you will see that he is a extremely intelligent, has clearly had a lot of counseling, and is in a very good head space these days (if I can use that term). He's done a total 180 and seems very healthy. His story is now uplifting and positive. It reminds me very much of Tony Mandarich, who appears to be exactly in the same positive state of mind these days, and equally contrite. If you like the Ryan Leaf story, and are unfamiliar with more recent Mandarich interviews, watch some of them!

No passes given here----he's an idiot, always was an idiot, and has no business being anywhere near a position like GM in the NFL. He won't be the Steelers next GM. Bank on that.

Titans just got a little bit better.

Bills trade 7th rnd pick for backup Case Keenum
Nextmanup replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pray to the sweet baby Jesus that nothing happens to Josh! Case Keenum? -
Yes, I think certain people are born bad apples and are likely to remain that way throughout their lives. As far as I can tell, much of what people become is shaped in just the first few years of life. In short, children who are surrounded by loving, caring parents are likely to end up "normal" and children who are neglected or abused are likely to end up with serious problems, criminal streaks, etc... Having said that, there are also countless examples of people who became "bad" but who absolutely were loved by their parents and grew up in a nurturing environment... So who knows.

Hmmm....would you rather be fired at by this woman with a gun? Or the woman who dropped trou, pooped in her hand, and then threw the fecal matter at the fast food employee some years ago? In general, I'm left with a feeling of relief that I don't really visit fast food restaurants as a rule.

It was a solid win against a really good team. What I noticed throughout was lots of Sabre forwards really hustling their asses off getting back on the back check and players playing, in general, with tenacity. In hockey, it is so obvious to see a hustling player vs. a floating player, especially if you used to play the game yourself. I think Granato has the right sort of makeup of players this time around. Also LOVED the way the Sabres reacted in the outdoor game after that weird Dahlin vs. Matthews incident in front of the net...and the way the Workhorse from White Horse did something about it at the end of the game, just to send a message. Cozens is my favorite Sabre in quite a long time. I can't wait for him to put some weight/muscle on his skinny frame....

He used to talk of his need to take care of his wife, Pat, all the time when he was on with Schopp and Bulldog. I had exactly the same thought about 2 seconds after hearing of his death--who is going to take care of Pat? It makes sad news that much sadder.

This is one of those celebrity deaths that really impacts me... I'm really surprised by this news. I always enjoyed his weekly segments with Schopp and Bulldog, and he was very much full of life and actively engaged in his profession just a few days ago.... RIP We only know that he had a brief illness that cause his death. A month or 2 ago, during his weekly segments with S&B on GR-55, he had a nasty cold and cough that he couldn't shake for weeks....I doubt that has much to do with his death however.

Deshaun Watson to Browns - $230 million guaranteed

Browns will be an improved team to be taken seriously with this move. Immediate, significant upgrade at QB for them. -
Ah, the joys of West Texas...13 year old driving a pickup truck with a spare tire being used as a permanent road wheel with "extensive damage" on the other 3 tires. I'm guessing no state vehicle inspection laws in Texas. This shows you why they are a good idea.

Bills sign DT Tim Settle, formally of Washington Commanders.

Washington Commanders? Is that the team that always plays the Harlem Globe Trotters? -
Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million

I was thinking about this last night; the various decisions they've made so far lead me to believe our first draft choice will be a DB. I'll be quite surprised if they don't do that. This regime is too smart to "trade up" for anyone--except Josh Allen--and we already got him. Thank god. -
Some time around 1997 (I think) it was a random winter day/evening living in Buffalo, NY. I had to drive to Rochester to see my girlfriend and set out at like 6pm, in the dark. I wasn't on the NYS thruway for more than 5 minutes heading east when I realized visibility was seriously dropping and the snow was coming down harder and harder. Eventually, I had to drive around 5mph (along with all other cars on the road; there weren't many) and ACTUALLY LOOK TO THE SIDES to see where I was going, b/c the snow just reflected off the light projecting from the headlights and caused a sort of fog you couldn't see through. I was frequently turning my headlights OFF for better visibility and then looking SIDEWAYS trying to figure out if I was still on the road... Eventually made it to Rochester with no incidents. The funny thing is this wasn't even a "storm". It was just a random winter night in WNY with some "snow flurries". One of the scariest driving experiences I've ever had. Will always remember that one.

It's relevant in the sense that land costs money, so you can always build up a lot cheaper than you can build out. But the main point stands, and that is that society is changing away from a need for densely packed urban centers. I have thought about this for years. The idea of the "big city" is kind of outdated in some aspects. Also, most big cities are OLD cities and that means they are built on water...and that water is a major disruptor to traffic patterns, making high traffic areas that much worse....all totally unnecessarily so in the 21st century. I wonder if, in another couple hundred years, "big cities" will naturally break up as populations disperse in an effort to find more space and an affordable price.
