It’s unethical. There’s very clearly a way you’re supposed to operate in these negotiations. Brandon Beane laid out exactly how teams are expected to handle themselves during his press conference. There are hundreds of these negotiations every year, this was clearly out of place. The Commanders had every opportunity to match throughout the process of the negotiation PRIOR to McKissic accepting the deal. They told the agent that they didn’t want him back, but he continued to keep them in the loop because that’s what McKissic wanted. After the deal was agreed to, the Commanders even went as far as congratulating the agent on the deal with Buffalo when they were informed. Then they went around the agent and lied to the player after telling the agent they didn’t want him back. It’s a courtesy thing. Everyone is operating under the same rules, these verbal agreements mean teams tie up money in guys. Beane, being ethical withholds that money from other negotiations - it would be a bad look if he’s commiting McKissic’s money to McKissic and another player. Then all of a sudden both accept and he doesn’t have the means to go through on both deals. It would ruin relationships with agents and players. The lack of mutual respect is an issue. That’s how you find yourself on the ***** list of 31 other teams. It sounds like they’re ***** up relationships with players and agents too (See Ioannidis, Matt).

I wouldn’t take him RD1 If he’s around when we pick again in RD2… maybe. If he’s there in RD3 I’m running to the podium or trading up if I’m Beane. This will be a tough evaluation for teams. Sure. If he was healthy I think it’s a conversation, he would likely be BPA. I wouldn’t touch an Achilles tear in the 1st round. It’s not a conversation there at 25.

Sad for him. You really hate to see that. I hope he is able to recover quickly. This means one less guy that goes off the board before we pick at 25. Tough because he’s not a position of need, had the potential to push a few guys down we would be more inclined to take.

I don’t think so. There was a question about the cap and he said “we’re right up on it” which prompted a follow up of “do you need to make some additional moves to get that backup QB and fill some other holes you mentioned?” He said “no, I already have those cap numbers factored in. I’m just now sure what we officially have on the books publicly yet.”

He’s having a hard time pulling punches when they ask question about McKissic and the Commanders. I’ve never seen him like that. It sounds like that relationship may be fractured.

PR team is generally informed as things are being wrapped up. They need some time to prep. There are typically alerts sent out to specifics staff members and departments in advance of things being announced publicly. Not saying that’s what is going on here, but they probably know sooner than most beat reporters.

It wasn’t a snarky comment at all, it was me genuinely asking you to walk me through your definition of BPA and then your process for putting together a draft board. You’re using certain terms here and I’m trying to find some common ground so we can have an actual discussion about the topic at hand. I do the whole BPA thing and putting together draft boards for a living, but my world is slightly different than the football world (although it retains plenty of similarities). I’ve found that it’s easier to figure out HOW we’re using certain terms before debating the terms and then the process itself. Hopefully that clears things up… I apologize if the original comment came off snarky.

Uhhh this isn’t great. Shenault was the #2 targeted player in Jacksonville. They were bad and he benefited from that. He was targeted 100 times last year and put up 63/619/0 and 11/41 rushing. That’s 8.9 yards per touch and no TD in 74 touches. McKenzie was the #8 targeted player in Buffalo. We had a lot of options and he was a complimentary piece. He was targeted 26 times last year and put up 20/178/1 and 9/47/1 rushing. That’s 7.8 yards per touch and 2 TDs on 29 touches. Exactly how is Shenault more productive other than sheer volume on a bad team? Shenault is also a 4.6 runner and McKenzie is a 4.4 runner.

Interesting. Brady, Kromer and Shula all have play calling experience in the NFL. Hopefully it helps Dorsey navigate his first season play calling/our offense add new wrinkles.

I love how you avoided my question… explain to the board which organizations have done it better since 2017… take everything into account. The draft, free agency, player development, winning games and anything else you want to add… It did affect every team, but if you can’t compute the fact that the Bills had planned their signings around the idea that they could be competitive now with the ability to spend in the future and then that was taken away from them by the fact that the cap didn’t increase, that’s on you. If you’re failing to recognize that this front office plans things out in advance and has a legitimate plan, then I’m also sorry. If you wanna talk about milk and cookies, you live in Candyland where every player on the team has to be a Pro Bowler and every free agent signing has to be below market value for things to please you. They’ve objectively built a top 5 roster in the sport and you’re asserting they’re mediocre.

The cap situation was caused by a worldwide pandemic. You lost credibility when you cited Badol… Let’s play my favorite game of “what front offices and coaching staffs are better than the Bills?” It’s always a doozy with people who have a mediocre grasp of how all this works…

Really nice post… Unfortunately, you are forgetting that people on this board believe Brandon Beane is a failure for not having the foresight to predict a worldwide pandemic that would prevent the salary cap from increasing. Those people believe they are reasonable and unbiased. They’re just speaking in facts! ☺️
