Oh they for sure blew it down the stretch. I just don't think this defense we just had was anything special either. But with a losing record and the offense being as useless as it was for so many games, arguing over how well the 2018 defense ranks is a pointless debate.

Good lord stop. I get it, Dareus had to go. But this take is nuclear. You don't need to go fiery hot on a Dareus take to convince "Dareus apologists" and anybody here he was dogging it on a stupid expensive contract and became virtually useless. But our 2014 defense was studly.. it's why we had a winning record. 4th best defense both in points for and yards. Last year with Star, the defense was 18th in points against.. waaay too many games where our defense got ran over by a truck. 6-10 teams don't have the 2nd best defense in the NFL. 2014 defense was a factor in winning games, 9 lol. That was a better defense than last year's. Dareus was an All-Pro. I seriously doubt Star is All-Pro caliber. The Bills defense was better in 2014.. which included Dareus.. a 1st team All-Pro. He sucked afterwards. We all know the story. Call me a 2014 Bills defense apologist. Those guys were legit! peak Dareus > peak Star, Star's career > Dareus' career..

that ain't good.. this isn't playing lemonade stand for selling hot dogs to get a positive cash flow. The point of investing in a sports team is you know without a doubt the value is appreciating greatly with the rest of the NFL. They're growing equity. These things aren't supposed to be invested in as cash cows. Heck. The sale of the Panthers already doubled the Pegula's investment. Business is going great for them. Also, someone posted this earlier, but I don't think they have the same relative business acumen of other owners. They owned a plot of land that struck rich. Arthur Blank by comparison started Home Depot.

38 TDs would mean we have a top 5 offense lol. That would be straight up prolific and a 180 from the offense we have last year. Nothing against Allen as an individual football player but nothing I saw from the offense last year points to moving the chains enough to get 38 TDs.. Even on Allen's good days that offense was start and stop every other drive. I can see the yards but that many TDs is way more a team effort, Daboll's play calling included. I can't even think of a redzone target that would get us double digit TDs receiving. Allen would have to show dramatic improvement over just one year AND we'd need a complete overhaul on offensive personnel.. but for the purpose of off-season threads.. 38 would be dope. I'm down with that.

HE'S GOT HANDS shocked at how picky we are about WR right now.

I'd rather have boatloads of cap to resign performing players and not spend an insane amount of yet another mediocre crop of other teams' FAs. But it'll be ages before the big contracts come back up, I never put too much stock in having all the cap we have this year. I'm all for short term, high paying contracts for the guys we need to improve so we're flexible, and have the bargaining leverage that comes with having options, to choose the talent we want to keep when the White, Poyer, Hyde, Milano and Zay contracts come up.

Yeesh. And worst case ontario (for Kraft personally) Belicheck gains more power and becomes emperor of the Patriots. -

Absolutely. But neither should legitimate victims of what #metoo is supposed to stand for get dismissed. It's a shame when a movement gets too broad/overzealous/frivolous with people for you to even have to make this assertion that it's certainly not just another "silly #XYZ thing" -
Comp picks are a great idea. Surprised the NBA doesn't have them as it hits small franchises in leagues with more player mobility the hardest. Could be the exponentially higher value in a 2 round draft but nevertheless.. lost supermax deals would only result in 1 or 2 comp picks a year in that league.

Talk about hard to please good Lord, Seattle isn't some Podunk city. One of my favorites. By her criteria she's asking Wilson to go to one of 2 NFL cities that are arguably "better than Seattle". Granted I've never lived in that foggy haze of a city. Seeing the sun a few times a year might be a game changer to some Collin's not a reporter. Just a talk show host that meanders to subjects that might be fun. I'm sure he started with "ya know what would be cool? Wilson in NYC. I heard his wife digs it..." //Epic Cowhert monologue involving gushing over Russell, and an analogy of changing teams with divorce

Absolutely. The harder he throws the less he has to lead his WR. I think touch is the biggest factor for his drops. Not that WRs shouldn't still be able to catch these but those head scratcher bullets he throws to Clay on a short crossing route aren't going to help get completions. His throws need a variety. I want to see some more arc to his deep passes and touch in his short throwing game. Whenever you have a man open put a little less mustard on it Josh. Make it easier for your crappy WRs when ya can.

Thank God can we just put this to rest and assume when Allen is criticized over "accuracy" by the layman football fan.. they mean physics accuracy AND precision aka a consistently thrown ball right where the WR wants it with the exact touch the WR needs to get YAC or make a tough grab. Basically any throw that ups your completion %. It's an important stat. Always has been. It's unreasonable to expect a completion on the perfect ball when Zay Jones is determined to drop it no matter what.. but on aggregate, over time, completion % is pretty darn indicative over a large enough sample size and accounting for your WR abilities. This is football not an undergrad physics course.

I mean it's just sports satire, not exactly Mark Twain. Think of barstool like the Onion, either it hits or it misses but it just makes fun of hot take analysts on big sports headlines.. so this topic is right up their alley to run something silly with. They're probably making fun of that type of Pats fan that lives in constant denial. And they never really break character. They're caricatures of Skip Bayless types. In this instance probably Bill Simmons since he is super annoying making excuses for Boston teams. Depends on if you know the character I'm sure they'd be a hoot around here if they mocked Bills beat writers. It's not a very popular form of writing round here lol. Granted, sports humor satire is pretty new since the hot take debate shows are relatively new themselves. The best part is it's totally believable to say the most nuclear takes now thanks to the rise in debate shows with purely ratings driven hot takes. Ya like it or ya move on, it ain't Mark Twain. Real take.. These guys demand being made fun of.

Patriots have 2nd easiest 2019 schedule
Bing Bong replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably the most unimpressive SB run I can remember. They were average all season against the easiest schedule you can ask for. Luck into a bye since the 2 best AFC teams were in the same division and the Steelers crapped the bed. Basically play one difficult game against the league MVP and Cakewalk through the SB. They spent all season thinking how they'd win 2 games vs Chiefs and Saints/Rams. We gotta make the AFCE tougher boys. I wanna see Darnold and Allen give em hell and at the very least TAKE AWAY THE BYE WEEK IN THE PLAYOFFS. A roster that's done it all 4 times already has a big advantage on that + 2 measly games and they're practically playing at home yet again in the SB given their experience. -
I think the variance between the 2 years is far enough apart. Certainly not like those guys. But you're right. Dorsey Levens takes us down a slippery slope. He's definitely not the "best" one year wonder cause he had that darn 1000 yard season.. minimizing the wonder the one year. I still can't emphasize enough how Brandon Lloyd's season is getting overlooked. I'll bet that's among the highest if you compare his best season to any of his second best seasons: Games Receiving Rushing Total Yds Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Tgt Rec Yds Y/R TD Lng R/G Y/G Ctch% Rush Yds TD Lng Y/A Y/G A/G Touch Y/Tch YScm RRTD Fmb AV 2003 22 SFO wr 85 16 1 30 14 212 15.1 2 44 0.9 13.3 46.7% 14 15.1 212 2 0 2 2004 23 SFO WR 85 13 13 89 43 565 13.1 6 52 3.3 43.5 48.3% 43 13.1 565 6 0 4 2005 24 SFO WR 85 16 15 109 48 733 15.3 5 89 3.0 45.8 44.0% 48 15.3 733 5 1 6 2006 25 WAS WR 85 15 12 57 23 365 15.9 0 52 1.5 24.3 40.4% 23 15.9 365 0 1 3 2007 26 WAS wr 85 8 1 11 2 14 7.0 0 9 0.3 1.8 18.2% 2 7.0 14 0 0 0 2008 27 CHI wr 80 11 5 50 26 364 14.0 2 32 2.4 33.1 52.0% 26 14.0 364 2 0 3 2009 28 DEN wr 84 2 1 18 8 117 14.6 0 44 4.0 58.5 44.4% 8 14.6 117 0 0 1 2010* 29 DEN WR 84 16 11 153 77 1448 18.8 11 71 4.8 90.5 50.3% 1 -18 0 -18 -18.0 -1.1 0.1 78 18.3 1430 11 0 12 2011 30 2TM 15 14 148 70 966 13.8 5 44 4.7 64.4 47.3% 70 13.8 966 5 1 5 DEN wr 84 4 4 31 19 283 14.9 0 44 4.8 70.8 61.3% 19 14.9 283 0 1 2 STL WR 83 11 10 117 51 683 13.4 5 37 4.6 62.1 43.6% 51 13.4 683 5 0 3 2012 31 NWE WR 85 16 15 131 74 911 12.3 4 53 4.6 56.9 56.5% 74 12.3 911 4 0 10 2013 Missed season - Out of NFL 2014 33 SFO wr 84 14 3 35 14 294 21.0 1 80 1.0 21.0 40.0% 14 21.0 294 1 0 A solid 500 yards ahead of 2011. And he looked more than capable of being among the best afterwards but never got around to it.

Just poor vision as a carrier unfortunately. Spiller could have had the career he was hyped to be if he had better football IQ and gaining easy yards that were available on plays. It's hard to see that really in college when they can miss the hole or the best spot to cut and still make up for it with freak athleticism for big plays. Like scouts evaluating Spiller, Reggie Bush and Trent Richardson in college.
