  1. I would too. But I have a strong player's power agenda so while I'd be super ticked... I'd totally understand the money and Houston decision. Man did what he wanted to do. I'd be more upset with Bill Polian for not doing his homework on Jim's preference and underestimating the USFL and NOT GETTING DAN MARINO... during those 2 years. Would be more mad at the GM than Jim. The team he eventually joined was quite stacked right. Did his absence get us more key picks? I forget, but I always thought Bruce came just before. Not sure about Thurman or the rest of the non-star supporting cast.
  2. Nice. Sounds like Buffalo turned into a 3rd world country. If that's not fandom I don't know what is. "Alcoholism was rampant in Buffalo's skid row" People lost fortunes in a Buffalo stock crash for no reason. All the farms were barren and dust was everywhere Think about how much fights people have gotten about Pat Mahomes. Marino is nuclear annihilation compared to Pat.
  3. It's the right move but they will be truly f****d with the Bortles signing on the books too. Tom Coughlin is desperate to get the triple crown of coaching 2 and later GMing (or whatever he does) 1 Superbowl with some stagnant franchises. He's got a shot and he ain't getting any younger. Jags would be miserable in a few years if they can't resign their defense.
  4. Bell and AB on the edge. We're going to reinvent the game. Plus trade for Rosen for a few giggles on the edge. You're spot on there.
  5. Sounds super cryptic. What are we signing Bell and converting him to DE? I'd think an MLB to move Edmunds outside but it's probably not even close to that "creative". Clickbait tweet or whatever.. Bills sign and convert a 3-4 edge rushers to 4-3! I swear to God if he phrased this hoopla over a Justin Houston position change signing or some CB blitz packages.. really silly.
  6. I never hear this talked about.. but what were fans' sentiment about Kelly up and leaving Buffalo to dry for Houston? In a way I can't blame him, he wanted to stay warm.. I imagine most Quarterbacks want to play their best football in weather they prefer (take Brees/Warner/Culpepper out of the dome and they don't quite play their best ball). And he got a gargantuan salary (correct? Was one of the marquee players the USFL stole away with their terrible plan to outbid players). Good god that must have stung. Especially with Jim Kelly tearing it up over there, having a good team built for him (did his absence help us nab some more high draft talent?), and Dan Marino who we passed on, landing on the rival Dolphins having the greatest season by a mile for a Quarterback in his sophomore year.. I never hear these 2 years discussed around fans. Yet we b**** about players on other teams finagling contracts and cutting bait elsewhere. All sounds heartbreaking. Did we know the USFL would fold? Did we despise Trump (lol) for poaching players like that? Did we have grudging resentment for Jim Kelly his first year or 2 before he became beloved. I've heard the story about after this episode. What was going on with y'all before? Too drunk to remember those days is my guess.
  7. Position switch I guess, but you can get a lot of milage over this kind of guy.. a Dwight Freeney, DeMarcus Ware, Jared Allen. Do we want virtually everybody on the team to have the same age?? That's horrible cap strategy. Do we believe we are going to suck for the 5+ years Houston is productive? Good god I hear constant begging for youth, how friggin long do we expect Josh Allen and friends to hit their window of opportunity on a good team? A little bit of early success is just what the doctor orders for a young player and building a team filled with tons of unproven talent makes that very unlikely. Then ideally Josh gets paid and we ship out the oldies and replace with the new. Because that's how you squeeze out the best roster with your cap. Rivers, Big Ben, Tom Brady, Steve Young in SF (Kelly when he couldn't stay warm in Houston after USFL) found themselves on stacked teams from the get go and were all but game managers enjoying early playoff or SB success. I love vets. Let's get a balanced roster between the old and the new... Like good teams do.
  8. I felt the same way about how I saw LeVeon approach free agency. He REALLY wanted to hit the market with as best value as possible. ... And the Steelers probably could have used him and he could have gotten some easy dough but no way with half that team throwing him under the bus over 10 weeks including OL.. virtually unprecedented for players to spite a teammate looking for money. Could have used Brown if they coddled him a bit (you KNOW other franchises would move heaven and Earth over there). It's the culture of Big Ben in that town and Brown found it hella annoying. Now they're probably going to suck haha
  9. Sounds like he's just saying he's proud of what he's done and (being cryptic) doesn't have anything to prove to people anymore. Doesn't need to keep playing. But he really wants to. Tons of players who have accomplished as much will say this in a less eccentric way in the midlife crisis of their career. Dude just went kind of Kanye West on this whole interview is all. Also I'd wager he's pulling strings on how he's going to escape this Steelers mess. Boy's gonna one up LeVeon
  10. With Kyrie reaching FA, my bet is on the long shot he rejoins LeBron in LA. It makes perfect sense. They're both miserable leaders complaining about the same things. Plus it would be a phenomenal story. Especially if they somehow win another title over GSW lol. "Not understanding their metaphorical connotations, the goats proceeded to defecate all over the office" #Suns
  11. Ocho was bonus football entertainment. He wasn't close TO or Moss infamy at points (nor as good). And he was doggone the best "diva" WR act I've seen in the NFL taking it in a comedic, rather than destructive way. Citations: none. TO played his heart out every game, almost maniacally competitive. Moss didn't have as much fire burning, but ultra talented. I'd give AB to compare to TO. Shrotsighted, often entertaining. TO wouldn't have skipped a deciding week 17 game tho. That's Moss territory. If i had to choose any WR not named Jerry Rice to play in one football game where the entire planet Earth was at stake.. I'd take the TO or AB type. Ultra competitors.
  12. He's still had his fair share of monstrous performances, which have lead many to the same conclusion as you: a bit out of position.. and also consistently banged up.
  13. we need to score at least 21 points every game AND hold the other team to at most 20 points every game. Ya do that bare minimum on offense and allow that maximum on defense ya gonna go 19-0. Sounds like McDermott gets it. Score points, and don't allow points... aka "the modern NFL" philosophy. Adapt or die.
  14. For sure. Sounds like most have no idea how much star player actions get swept under the rug to keep their assets shiny and expensive if they feel the need to cut bait. We have NO IDEA what goes on with the star athletes in the NFL. I can only guess, but I think he's intentionally lowering his cost to leave the Steelers. He's doing want he can to get out. Of course he is a total eccentric.. and can be charismatic on television to the point where he's a little to open of a book about himself. But dude wants out is really all I see happening. Seriously doubt he goes to the Bills so I don't get the furor over another star receiver doing typical star WR diva stuff. The position is like that because the players truly are (literally) distanced from their teammates in most plays from the game in a dogfight with the corner. They interact more with the opposing CB than they do their teammates on the field. That's their job, and they typically get the habit of coming off as selfish because their position is one of the most individual efforts in football.
  15. one off incident. Silly and foolish all around. But c'mon. You don't take clothes off a cold grown man to send some dumb message. NFL players get at least this level of respect from coaches for the most part as professionals. I don't see a problem. Funny story though.
  16. Blasphemy. Steve Smith is the man. One of me fave WRs if not my #1. "I don't know you're going to have to ask [the CB] he didn't finish the game. Ice up son." Steve Smith on Jason Witten's return to Cowboys: 'I'm actually good on TV so I'll just stay here'
  17. Cause I can do what I want. I just adopted a second team right now just to spite chu
  18. Boggles my mind when the Panthers saw how successful Cam was with Steve Smith Sr and Ted Ginn Jr. If Ted Ginn Jr has a career year with Cam and is Cam's 3rd most productive single season receiving target.. should send shockwaves to Panthers brass to stop drafting big lugs and get a burner that's Ted Ginn speed but with WR hands. Ted Ginn must have dropped like 8 TD bombs from Cam that MVP year lol. But he got open consistently to catch enough as well. Allen, Cam, Favre, those of the gunslinger ilk do best with burners. Tossup contested catch guys do better with Quarterbacks without the arm talent, like Foles or Fitzpatrick. Of course it helps to have all sides of the coin. But the primary WR better fit the Quarterback's preferred mold best.
  19. I'm almost positive 90% of the Robert Woods comp is because they both came from USC one after another.
  20. no no no no no no no no ... pleeeeaaaaase no
  21. it's so funny. Cowboys fans here in Dallas are absolutely psyched about this. It's more taking a year off at his age and position. I don't criticize Chargers for keeping Antonio Gates around. He's effective. But he also is staying in football shape which must get infinitely harder at that age. He graded very poorly blocking FWIW. I can see him being an effective safety blanket at best, but a year away and he has a lot of work to do to get there. I say we bring TO back. His last year was better than all our WRs.
  22. hot take but I like the discussion. Seriously doubt he gets cut, at the worst I'm sure he beats out Duke if they're having a battle in preseason. We oughta keep 5 WRs on deck and not seeing us with 4 new WRs without Foster. We've already cleaned house at WR, there's plenty of room for new ones. I think McDermott's rhetoric is rationalizing why he'd keep 2 returning WRs, not one. Not to mention he's clearly talking about receiving options at TE and possibly RB as well. I'd give serious pause to cut Zay, and I've been a big critic myself. But I really want to see our WR under a rookie deal drafted get a 3rd before making a snap decision. That's typically when WRs show their chops if they aren't performing to draft status, or when they can be written off. A few of the attributes you listed (I can only think of hands right now - most important for me) seems like the sort of WR we thought we were drafting. If Zay does indeed improve much closer to what his draft day potential indicated in year 3, then he should significantly improve as a possession WR. That's been his biggest struggle. Being a WR drafted for his hands and being so prolific in college and completely losing that key attribute he was drafted for. And he got a bit better but certainly still ticks me off with drops.
  23. I'm a Crabtree fan, as a fit for our team. A guy with hands and veteran route running. Just don't let his chain get yanked. Want to get at least one been there, done that vet on the WR team. Golden Tate's super lame. Don't want no Patriot lovers up in here.
