Postgame Thread Bills Redskins
Jrb1979 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its great they won and yes they are 6-2 but their run d still got gashed. Once again they wait til the 4th qtr to let Allen loose and make plays. If they want to do more then make the playoffs they need to let Allen loose for the whole game. Stop being so conservative. -

Its funny cause Seattle had no problem adding him to their team. You keep trusting the process. -

This season they are doing a lot better then expected so they should have added help for their offense. Gordon was free for the taking. He may have helped, he may not have. Why not take a chance. Another WR to go with Brown might help stretch the field. Instead they didn't do anything. So far this regime has proven they can build a defense but have no idea how to build an offense or get the most out of what they have. Good coaches find ways to make an offense fit their QB. Instead in Buffalo they turned a mobile QB into a pocket passer and so far it's not been going very well. -
The reason I said I need to see it, is it would a long way to show me Allen is the guy. Its not that I don't want to see them win, I want to the offense improve a lot. Cause up this point they are trending in the wrong direction. Scoring only 19 points a game isn't good enough. The defense isn't always going to hold teams to 17 points.
-
I think the reason for the obsession with passing yards is it shows improvement from Allen. Like some one else said, Allen wasn't drafted to be a game manager. I watch other games a lot and for some reason Allen and the offense struggles much more then most. The worst part is they are playing some of the worst teams in the league this season. They shouldn't be struggling as much as they do. As for what I expect, I need to see a big improvement today. He has to throw for over 220 yards, have a completion percentage of 70 and 2 passing TDs. I don't care if his short passes have improved, for me that's not good enough.

They are still fun to watch. You probably only looked at the final score and moved on. Last night they played a good game but hit a couple of posts. The only goal was a fluke. Next weekend I see them possibly winning both as they match up well with Tampa. They may not win every game but at least their style of play is fun to watch. A lot different then last season. They are more exciting then the Bills on offense. The Bills would be more fun to watch if they let Allen run out of the pocket to make plays.

Why shouldn't strength of schedule be taken into affect? The 49ers defense should be ranked a lot higher then Buffalos cause of who they have played. I know a lot of you always want to put a positive spin on anything Bills but you can't throw out DVOA cause of they play the defense near the bottom

Its always next year for Bills fans. There is no guarantee they play better next year. IMO when you are 5-2 and have one of the best records in the AFC, you go for it. Claiming Gordon would have helped their offense. Of course it all depends on Allen and so far he hasn't been good enough.

We get it, you and most Bills fans only look at the box scores for the Sabres. They have played really well compared to last seasons team. As far as Allen goes he needs to be much better. He's still one of the worst passers in the league. If was even average they wouldn't have had to come back against the teams they did. You like most Bills homers will defend your QB til the cows come home. Can't say anything negative about him. -
I am guessing you don't believe in any of the stats that are out there that show how good or bad your team is really doing. I believe this team isn't as good as their record indicates. Their offense needs to be much better if they want to get anywhere.
-
To be closer to the middle of the pack. Considering who they have played their offense should be much better then it is. The biggest problem is trying to make Allen a pocket passer, when he should be more like Murray. Let him run around and make plays. Build an offense around that instead of of this short passing offense that he has trouble excelling in.
-
I agree with what you say about the offense not growing. You have to realize that the majority of the posters on this board are old school when defenses dominated and 17-14 scores where the norm. Now you need to usually score close to 21 points or more to win. It is why I keep saying to let Allen loose and stop making him a pocket passer. Let him run around and make plays. He will never be that QB with high completion percentage. He is best when he runs around making plays. His too best games last season that is how he played.
-
That is why I think they should just him loose like he played last season against the Vikings. Trying to make him a pocket passer is not helping him at all. Since this is still a building year and they do play a bad team in Washington next, let him loose. He may not have it but making him a game manager is not helping him. I don't see that happening cause their coach believes in complimentary football which goes against what Allen is good at. He is best when playing hero ball.

Its funny. Last year when DVOA had the Bills defense ranked as one of the best, everyone agreed. This year they rank near the bottom and now most think data like this means little. Those of you upset or disagreeing with the ranking probably come from a time when this stuff didn't exist. So all that mattered was the end score and if they won. Doesn't matter how they got there or if how bad they looked.

Josh Allen - week EIGHT report card
Jrb1979 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they keep making him a game manager its not going to help him. Seen as they don't think this is their year, they should let Allen loose. Let him play like he was at the end of last year. The worst that happens is he throws more interceptions. Maybe he will learn from it but if not you at least know what you have. -

I don't see that ever changing til McD gets rid of his Rockpile days philosophy and joins the modern NFL -

A good to great QB will make the offense better regardless of the talent around him. The Bills best bet is to let Allen be Allen and hope for the best. The best offenses in this league are able to score in bunches. Something the Bills haven't been able to do in a long time. Part of me thinks it will never happen cause the coach likes a more conservative approach. -

Good luck winning a lot of games in this league playing that way. Your offense has to be able to score in bunches sometimes and I have my doubts Allen or the offense will ever be able to do it. -

Yeah let him loose and I think the results aren't going to much better. I don't think Allen will ever be a great pocket passer or great at reading defense. He plays his best when he runs around. The thing that scares me about that is one of these times he will be running and get destroyed. Its happened once against the Pats it will happen again. When guys get a chance for a hit on a QB they will take. Bills fans should be happy its not the Rockpile days, he would have been lot up a long time ago. -
ESPN: Bills know they must fix run defense

No I don't have tickets for either team. I do go to as many Sabres games as I can. It has always bugged me when season ticket holders re-sell their tickets to recoup their money. The point of being a season ticket holder is cause you're a fan of the team not to make money. -

It's nothing new in Buffalo. Like I said in another thread, for fanbases as passionate as Sabres and Bills fans are, they love to let visiting fans take over their stadiums. So much for home field advantage.
