  1. Apparently here the mass panic has started to slow down and grocery stores and Costco has gone some what back to normal. Now just need to find away to get people to do more social distancing. What I don't get is here in Canada it was up to the province to close the schools but in the U.S they let each district to decide. I would have thought each State had more say in it.
  2. Airports should be shut down. In case anyone hasn't noticed the majority of cases have come from people who have traveled by air and yet that is allowed to continue.
  3. Its good to see some people are getting it. There is still lots that aren't. Here in my city the University kids aren't getting it. They closed down a street near the school so a bunch of them could party for St. Patrick's Day. I have seen a few posts from friends on Facebook that still plan on traveling outside of the country cause as they said"If I get sick there is people there to take care of me"
  4. It might be the only way to get the people that don't understand the severity of this to understand.
  5. The U.S. and Canada would be smart to do what Spain and France has done. Both countries have closed everything except for gas stations and grocery stores. Spain has now banned people from leaving their homes except for work or to get essentials. If you do have to leave only one person per household is allowed to leave at a time. IMO its the best way to stop the spread since a lot of people aren't taking the social distancing seriously
  6. It makes sense. The only way to slow this down other then washing your hands is social distancing. Social distancing should be stressed as much as hand washing is.
  7. Its almost like government needs to do more to make people understand the severity of this. I was at the airport this morning to drop off my stepson to fly up north to visit his grandmother for the week. The amount of people still traveling after what has gone on in the last couple of days is mind blowing. I know we tell people that it's bad to be sheeple but now would be the best time to be one.
  8. The only think I find funny is they are closing all these places to slow the spread of this but the amount of people in grocery stores right now is insane. Isn't that the kind of thing they are trying to stop, having a lot of people in one place all at once?
  9. As far the daycare thing goes, you are lucky that so far they are staying open. Here in Ontario they have closed most of them when they closed the schools.
  10. Real concern especially now that they are closing all major tourist attractions. Grocery stores have been packed every day since the announcement
  11. Hearing a lot of you worry about insurance coverage, I am glad I live in Canada
  12. You shut them down for as long as need be. Til this starts to slow down. If people really want to travel they will have to go on road trips.
  13. After seeing how Canada and the U.S. is now closing schools and other facilities to help slow the spread, why not shut down airports too. Airports is where a majority of the cases come from.
  14. Here in Ontario our spring break is next week. They have shut down schools for 2 weeks following the break.
  15. I'm a little more more concerned now as Ontario has decided to close all public schools for 2 weeks after March Break happens next week. Who knows what else will be closed next. We might see a lot of retail cut back hours til this starts to settle down. My hope is this virus is like the cold and once the warmer weather comes the virus slows down a lot.
  16. I agree with a lot of what you posted. The Media hasn't helped with any of this either. They want people to be fearful of this. What I wonder is if the overcrowding of the hospitals is partially to blame on people going to the hospital over something small like sniffles. What would help slowing down the spread is if you feel sick at all stay home especially if you are considered to be in the high risk category. Of course the Media would never tell you that, cause fear sells.
  17. Its one thing to stay at home and avoid crowds. That to me isn't over reacting. Its the people that are stockpiling items like it's the end of the world. What the Dr. in that post was getting at is he is scared for is those that go into a full on panic. I see it every day at work with those that have loaded up on toilet paper. Yes this virus is concerning but as the Dr. said, people need to learn the facts and avoid crowds and lay low. The media has made people panic and that really isn't helping anything.
  18. https://talbotspy.org/letter-from-toronto-an-infectious-diseases-specialist-reflects-on-corvid-19/ After reading that post from that Dr. I agree with it. I will give you the short form of it. He basically says that while he is concerned for those that are at high risk but he isn't scared of this virus. As he states "What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others.others." He is also scared that we teaching our kids to panic, fear and be suspicious instead of being rational and open minded.
  19. Like I posted I am planning on laying low for now but I don't plan on canceling my trip in May.
  20. I don't have any plans to travel til May, so I am hoping it calms down by then. I am hoping since from what we know that it's a respiratory virus similar to the cold but worse, that warm weather slows it down. I would be more worried about me being infected if so flew down but I drove so I am not as worried.
  21. I know it spreads easily but there really is no way to combat this then to have everyone lay low and don't go out til this passes. IMO this could have easily been prevented. As soon as it became an outbreak in China, the U.S. and Canada should have shut the borders to any incoming flights from there, including U.S citizens.
  22. If I got sick I would quarantine myself but I am not going to stop living my life if I am healthy. I am not panicking over this either. So far there hasn't been any cases of it near me. The ones that have showed here in Canada are mostly from people coming from other countries. Even in the U.S. its not as widespread as people think it is. I was just in Myrtle Beach last week and never heard of any confirmed cases down there. Right now it seems to be in pockets like here in Canada. For the most part it seems to be from people flying into Canada or the U.S. from Europe.
  23. I agree that its about other getting sick. I realize in the US that a lot of companies don't have sick days, but if you are sick you should stay home to help stop the spread. Another thing would be is if you fall into the category of high risk you should really think about avoiding big crowds as much as possible.
  24. Its not that I am shocked that people don't have to same opinion as me. I am Canadian, up here hockey is king. Its why I have always been surprised how little hockey is mentioned in the U.S. I do know what's going with this virus and I do know there is a possiblity that Cedar Point maybe closed. Unless that happens or I get sick, I still plan on living my life like normal. The reason is that while this virus has been spreading fast, for the most part its only the elderly or people with low immune systems that are really at risk.
  25. If I did have a bad cold I would quarantine myself. What I was getting at is, if I am healthy I am not going to stop loving my life. I am not giving up my vacation plans over this.
