  1. yes....not super bowl champions.....just like before we had Mahomes. And then you don't pay Mahomes if he isn't good...you go and try and find a guy who is good. You are making my point for me. It's hard to win a title with a midling QB....it can be done. it's just harder to build a generational defense, draft well for 3 or 4 years in a row and have everything culminate just right for one season. If you don't have the QB, then you need a QB. You don't pay a QB big money (that what this thread is about..paying big money for average QB) if he isn't a big money type player.
  2. Teams need to be.......like the Chiefs........KC had Alex Smith...we were winning divisions with that guy. he was putting up "numbers" KC decided that he wasn't getting them to the top and traded up for Mahomes. The problem with mediocre QB getting paid is most teams are too scared. They know what they have with X, and sign him, instead of daring to be better, letting reliable mediocre X move on and getting someone that could be better in there. The NFL doesn't need to do anything. Teams need to be honest about the QB they have. Now, having said that...Andy Reid was/is one of the few guys who had the kind of job security and reputation to be able to go to an owner and say....I realize we are winning, we sell out the stadium every year and our QB is a good guy in the community etc...but he isn't good enough and I want to trade up in the draft for this guy who I think can be better. Very few front offices can do that. Normally a big QB change happens when the coach and GM have just been newly hired and they get one shot at this. That is the problem. If those guys find a QB that gets to 9 wins consistantly, they keep him, becuase the GM and coach keep their jobs because they are "winning" they are "close". You'd overpay a QB too if it menat you got to keep your 5 million per year job an extra year or three or 4.
  3. KC has most of the core under contract for the next few years. 2020 the entire core is back. 2021 is going to see alot of turnover, but we (KC) will have in 2021 Mahomes Kelce Hill Frank Clark Honey Badger Juan Thornhill Harrison Butker Eric Fisher Mitchell Schwartz Clyde Edwards Hellaire Willie Gay Hitchens ....and others. Hopefully they can find a way to sign Chris Jones long term.....he's the one major piece (Unless you count Sammy Watkins as a major piece) that aren't under contract through 21.
  4. The following is NOT a typo: Pat Mahomes QBR on 3rd and 15 or more is 99.9 (also, this stat alone, should demonstrate just how awesome Mahomes is) The rest of the entire NFL QBR on 3rd and 15 or more is 4.7 KC would just score and go for the "onside" conversion everytime.
  5. I can vouche for this. @GoBills808 is a man of his word. Sent me a check in the mail for a bet I won with him last year.
  6. Um.....ONE up and coming gunslinger. The other guy has kind of already arrived, you know, having won a leauge MVP and Super Bowl MVP.
  7. McClain has an article coraborating all this..but it's behind a paywall
  8. https://www.espn975.com/bench-travis-johnson-says-obrien-didnt-want-deshaun-watson/ https://www.walterfootball.com/nflhotpress/article/Per-Sources,-Watson-Will-Seek-Market-Value
  9. I didn't say "The Texans" I said specifically, BILL O'BRIEN did not want him. Here is a picture of the Texans War Room when they made the pick....does that look like BOB wanted him....does it look like anyone there besides GM Rick Smith is happy about making the pick?
  10. .... Let's do this again..... going into the 2017 NFL Draft, The Pegulas had already fired the coach and had hired McDermott about 3 months before the draft. It was already being speculated that Whaley would be on the way out as well. He was kept on ONLY to assist with (NOT RUN) the draft. McDermott was clear about the fact that he was NOT taking a QB in the 2017 Draft without the new GM (who wouldn't be on board until later) to help evaluate and make that choice with all parties on the same page. McD being a defensive minded coach, also perhaps didn't have the background to confidently make that choice in 2017 on his own. ********THE BILLS WERE NOT GOING TO DRAFT A QB IN 2017 NO MATTER WHAT********** Not Trubisky, Not Watson, and Not Mahomes. They went into that draft OUT of the QB Market. They had been discussing the trade with KC FOR WEEKS. On a side note....considering the Bills were OUT of that QB market and knew they wouldn't be in it in 2017 at all....the trade and pics they made with KC should be graded as A+. People crap on the Bills for "missing" on Mahomes. The circumstances that existed in the Bills front office and leadership dictated that the wouldn't be taking a QB. If you want to blame anyone in Buffalo for "passing" on Mahomes...then you have to blame the Pegulas for their unorthodox handling of their FO reshuffling in the 2017 offseason, leaving them with a new coach and a lame duck GM, meaning they weren't set up to evaluate and take a QB in the 2017 Draft. Given the circumstances....McD could NOT have possibly played it better than he did. ....2nd....I have never heard that Pegula liked Trubisky...where did you read or see that? THIS is the first thread I've ever read that. ...3rd....The Chiefs did NOT want Watson. lots of loose lipped folks in the KC organization let it out that Watson did not impress on the white board in meetings with Ried. The move up was for Mahomes, and only for Mahomes. Furthermore, Bill O'Brien did not want Watson either...that move was orchestrated by then Texans GM Rick Smith (and further rumored to have been directed by the owner to make it happen) Lots of puplished whisperings that O'Brien loved Mahomes, and ALSO didn't think Watson performed well on the white board. ...and last....Blake Bortles has been the backup for the Rams since his release from JAX...he isn't out of football.
  11. I am bored at work and saw the thread here about that reporter in Boston proclaiming the Pats would still win the division, the Jets, Bills, and Phins were all inept bla bla bla. It compelled me to give Stidham a deeper look, so I watch all of his preseason work from 2019....these are my thoughts. ****MODS**** if this is deemed to not add anything of value here etc.....feel free to discard etc.....again...I'm bored at work....I did some office chair film review. Here are my thoughts. Right away you notice that Stidham is very good at climbing the pocket...this is one of Tom Bradys hallmarks, and Stidham is feerless in traffic, as he steps straight forward into the middle of relatively small pockets, keeping his eyes downfield and delivering alot of good passes. It's quite impressive. Of note....stidham, when climbing, usually does throw the ball, but when he feels the heat, this is also BY FAR his prefferred escape route....running straight ahead. in all the games he played, each opponent threw a middle blitz right at him, and all 3 of those times he just crumples to the ground.....or has no chance to escape. He's helpless against a free rusher coming up the middle right at him. Stidham, when taking snaps from the gun, does go through his progressions fairly well, but he did tend to hold the ball for a while. In the games I watched, he was mostly playing scrubs....some of the better pass rushers in the leauge are going to get to this guy when he doens't make up his mind quickly to throw. When stidham is flushed and tries to throw, he doesn't have the arm to get mustard on his passes....especially rolling to his left....throwing on the move to his left, he throws a VERY weak ball, and it isn't much better rolling right. He doesn't have the speed to create enough space to stop and reset once he starts to roll...so getting him moving out of hte pocket is advantage defense. It's also very apparent in every game, ANYTIME Stidham ran play action, once he turns back around after the fake handoff, he is QUICK to throw...he already has in mind where the open man should be and often is correct and wastes no time at all getting the ball out...often to an open target. Its a sharp contrast watching how quick stidham gets the ball out on play action vs just taking a shotgun snap and standing around scanning the field and taking his time. Given time in the pocket...or even when he is compelled to climb the pocket and throw, stidham was good at recognizing man coverage on the outside and throwing to that target. He rarely chose outside targets who were doubled up. He did go to some tightly covered targets in the middle of the field but had success on alot of that as he does well stepping into those throws as he is climbing up in the pocket and is able to get enough zip on the ball to get it through those tight windows. In general Stidham had good pocket pressence and was good about feeling the pressure coming....but he lacks the athleticsm to do much about it once the rush hits home...even when he makes the effort to escape or sidestep, he's slow....and throwing under durress reveals the weakness of his arm when he can't step into the throw and drive the ball. Only in the FINAL preseason game did i note ONE anticipation throw....a 7 yard out that he began the windup before the target made the cut. It was the only one I saw....could be due to playing with the scrubs... Not the most graceful screen thrower...seems rushed and antsy trying to execute those. Overall....I can see why Belichick might feel good enough to give this kid a real chance in 2020....I would want to see more work on timing routes with the 1's before I'd feel real good about this kid, but he seems capable and well suited to run the Patriot short passing game they prefer along with his fast execution of playaction...and they might just have something viable there. You run some double tights and pound the rock setting up playaction.....I can see it working out. Need to see A LOT more in the timing/anticipation area.
  12. Here are mine.....TUA is giong to fall like an anvil in a loony toons cartoon. Jalen Hurts will be the best QB in this draft....and he'll be taken by the Chargers.....................at pick 32 (they will trade back into round 1) Chase Claypool will be a pro bowl player........but at TE not WR. Best RB in this entire class likely won't be drafted.....it will be Michael Warren, Cincinnatti U.
  13. ZEROVOLTZ DEEEEEEEP SLEEPERS.... Demarcus Acy - CB - Missouri .....he was on alot of radars headed into 2019 season...and did not have a good year...competely dissappeared of alot of draft lists.....he's stil 6'1 with 4.5 speed....reminds me ALOT of Charvarious Ward Michael Divinity - LB - LSU .....was productive when he played..didn't see the field much this past year due to suspension and injury....overshadowed by so many other LSU players....has red flags..but there is talent there....and super long arms. Kevin Dotson - OL - Louisiana .....didn't get invited to the combine and should have....going to make some team very happy....immense strength. AJ Green - CB - Oklahoma State.....another 6--2 guy that has ball skills and enough speed to play outside.... Akeem Davis Gaither - LB - Appalachian State....an Isiah Simmons type skill set that you can get 3 rounds later. McTelvin AGim - DL - Arkansas ......kid was fairly productive for some BAD Arkansas Squads.....
  14. MODS - Move or delete if this isn't something worthwhile here. I have been a memeber of a Broncos message board called orangemane for a while now, and they do an annual mock draft where each NFL team has a designated board memeber make selections. I am sure there is probalby something similar here and in alot of other places...Thought I would post the results here if anyone is interested to see yet another of what must be 100's of mock drafts. You can get an idea of what other folks think the Bills might have in mind who aren't hard core Bills fans. I can tell you that the drafter for the Bills in this draft is from Western New York but is a Broncos fan..so he may at least hear some of the chatter in the area about the Bills. Anyhow....here it is through 200 selections. I've highlighted the Bills selections as well as listed them at the top here. 2-22(54) Terrell Lewis LB Alabama 3-22(86) Zach Moss RB Utah 4-22(128): Tanner Muse S Clemson 5-21(167): Jauan Jennings, WR, Tennessee 6-09(188): Buffalo - Jack Driscoll, OL, Auburn Round 1 1-01(01): Cincinnati (Agamemnon) - Joe Burrow, QB, LSU 1-02(02): Washington (Big Cheeze) - Chase Young, DE, ohio 1-03(03): Detroit (Conklin) - Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson 1-04(04a): Miami (Carmelo15) - Jeffrey Okudah CB, ohio 1-05(05): Miami (Carmelo15) - Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama 1-06(06): LA Chargers (PRBronco) - Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa 1-07(07): Carolina (bpc) - Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville 1-08(08): Arizona (ludo21) - Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama 1-09(09): Jacksonville (-Rod-) - Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn 1-10(10): Cleveland (phibacka31) - Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia 1-11(11): NY Jets (jebures) - Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama 1-12(12): Las Vegas (balero) - CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma 1-13(13): San Francisco (NickstiXXX) - Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina 1-14(14): Tampa Bay (socalorado) - Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama 1-15(15): Denver (JCMElway/DBroncos4life) - Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama 1-16(16): Atlanta (Arkie) - K’Lavon Chaisson, LB, LSU 1-17(17): Dallas (lukeb5533) - CJ Henderson, CB, Florida 1-18(18a): NY Giants (Shananahan) - A.J. 15. ......KC will have to pay Mahomes soon......but it's not a pending disaster. Most of the core is under contract throught 2021, and there is PLENTY of cap space ahead....just not this year.... Regarding Watkins..... before he re-signed, he was on the third year of his 3 year deal here (in KC) and had a cap hit of 21 Million for 2020. If he were cut, we would have saved 14 million against the cap and carried 7 million dead money. Here is what happend. There was a mutual interest for Sammy to be in KC for 2020, but not at a 21 million cap hit. Essentially what happend was, he was cut, and then re-signed. KC is still carrying the 7 million cap hit, and his new deal has a base salary of 9 million. Instead of counting 21 Million against the cap now, Sammy is for all intents and purposes, a 16 Million dollar cap hit now. ....Saving the team 5 million while retaining Watkins services for the 2020 season. Another way to think of it from KC perspective is...cutting Watkins and having 7 million in dead cap...PLUS signing a veteran WR would have cost X. What would that have been? Maybe X+7 million would have equaled 13 Million or 14 Million....and maybe the guy you sign isn't quite as good as Watkins....so ultimately, X+9 Million = 16 Million and you have Watkins for another year. KC will now have the entire starting offense back from 2019. That in and of itself isn't that big a deal, but when you consider that teams can't do OTA's, etc....you have the entire offense, with Ried and Mahomes...that all know the playbook...have all played together for years now, and they are all back again after winning the SB. That is a significant advantage. ....and a few other Chiefs notes....they are a Bashaud Breeland signing away from having everyone back on D that took 50% or more of the snaps at each position. Last note on Watkins, I dont think he's elite etc...but he DOES matter...KC's offense has better numbers with him as opposed to without him....I think if I am correct, KC has only lost 4 games Watkins started.
  16. Watson is a good QB. .....Might not be a popular take...but he just dropped several spots in my mind for sending out a cryptic rhyme. Either come and and clearly state publicly that you think the direction of the team is BS....or do it privately....don't be a passive agressive baby and do it this way. Same with Cam Newton. Are these guys in Jr. High still? Approach this like a man!
  17. ....Josh Allen and the playoff Bills are pretty compelling....I wouldn't rule it out.
  18. It looks like one of those logos that Nintendo football would use because they couldn't get the actual NFL licensing rights to the real rams logo. UGH.
  19. 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City is reporting KC @ Miami will be in London.
  20. Bills trade a 3rd to Washington for Trent Williams.....and select RB from Wisconsin with first round pick. (agian, not what I would do, but this would be BOLD)
  21. Something to think about here...... It's a deep draft. It stands to reason A LOT of teams will want to trade back for more picks etc...but in a market where so many teams are looking to trade back, and so few looking to trade up.....there could be value in moving up instead. Follow me for a moment here. Let's say you are.....Green Bay at 30 (just a random team) and you feel that there are a ton of guys at 35-50 who are all about the same and you'd like to move back. ......You need a partner or 2 who'd want to move up. If you can't find that market, then you aren't moving down.....So, the Packers, if they are intent on moving down in this case, would probably be willing to trade back for less than the chart value etc....because all the teams want to move back for picks and no on wants to move up. Hopefully I am making my point with the example, wich is.....in a year like this, there is value in MOVING UP. It may well be a bargain if you want to go up, instead of back. If you believe in the value of picks and you believe in targeting your guy.....this is a great year to be on the hunt to move up.....because it shouldn't be that costly.
  22. I think the point here isn't really about the coach or GM, but because ownership has given the staff a "Win NOW" ultimatum, the Lions have removed the possibility of taking Tua, from the equation.....because the GM and coach, acting in their own interests, aren't taking a QB at 3 who they'll never benefit from. The fans and owners COULD though. Good ownership would recognize that there is an oppertunity here to try and break the cycle of losing by possibly obtaining a franchise altering QB (I'm not saying TUA is or isn't) Bad ownership limits the best TEAM options by doing things like this. ........not saying Pegulas are bad owners.....but their wonky handling of changing out the coach and front office in 2017 created a situation where the option to draft a QB in round 1, was off the table by the time draft day came around.
  23. I think it's important to note here the both the coach and GM in Detroit were given THIS YEAR to win or they're out. They aren't taking Tua. Maybe all a smoke screen to entice someone to move up to 3...but if Detroit is at three it won't be Tua. GM and Coach need help now, not later.
  24. @Aussie Joe hit on it already....the Patriots have played ALOT of extra games over the last 2 decades...they are fine. I want to touch on "player safety" .....I call BS on that. If the concern here was for the safety of players, then you have them play ZERO games of pro football. It's a rough, dangerous, phyiscaly game that exacts a toll on the player. Everyone knows that going into the deal. No one is forcing anyone to play football, and if you agree to go out and play the game, there is X number of dollars that you'll be paid. Just about everyone who is capable of playing pro football, make the choice to accept the possible consequences. That's not to say effort shouldn't be made to find better helmets or consider different ways to do things....but "player safety" is just a negotiating term. Football by it's nature is unsafe...they are negotiating to play an unsafe game. It's really.....the NFL wants to add a 17th game, wich will make them more money...and in excahnge for the players agreeing to it...we'll ease up marijana testing, and share more of the pie. That's what it comes down to......player safety? whatever. Third....I mentioned here a long time ago when it came up....and the media has said so...and it's been said in this thread as well.....the 17th Game would be a non division game at a nuetral site. Most correctly point out that it really allows for more international games....but I think the idea of nuetral site is brilliant on the part of the NFL. As it has gotten more difficult to get people to pay for expensive tickets at stadiums when you can stay home.....especially if your team sucks.....then have a game at a big college stadium....it would sell out due to the novelty of it....and in alot of places, fans that have a hard time making the trek, might go if it's closer to home.... Examples....and you could do a ton of these before you ran out combos and places to play Denver VS Seattle, Boise Idaho. Cleveland VS Detroit, Ann Arbor Michigan. Chicago VS Indianapolis from South Bend. Kansas City VS. Minneapolis from Lincoln, NE Dallas VS Chargers from Albequeque New Orleans VS Miami from Tuscaloosa Buffalo VS NY Giants ....(you guys tell me...Carrier Dome, West Point...Yankee Stadium....IDK!) Philly VS Pitt from Happy Valley Redskins VS Baltimore from Blacksburg, VA Tampa VS Tennesee from Athens, GA San Francisco VS Cincy from Tokyo Houston VS LA Rams from Salt Lake City Or, as a KC fan....just these possibilities alone are interesting KC Vs Chicago in St. Louis KC Vs Dallas from Fayetteville, AR KC Vs Minnesota in Iowa City, IA And so many others. You rotate these around all over the place.....you tell me that a game between KC and Dallas in Fayettevill wouldn't sell out or be a big draw in TV? It's like printing money.....and staying engaged with out of town fans. And...Buffalo...I don't know the area....but as far as regional fan engagement....what would you do? Toronto? Montreal? Syracuse? Erie? I am sure there are places Bills fans would travel to or who live in the area and would go to a game every other year or 2 or 3.
  25. That was fast. Harris makes the routine catch look incredibly difficult, but then will snag something you think no one can catch. He's also plays special teams....not surprised the Bears snatched him up as fast as they could....they didn't have a TE break 100 yards for the season last year. (yes, I typed that right.)
