  1. On April 18th, 2016, The destiny of the Kansas City Chiefs was set in motion by an on obscure, odd, bitter event that no one even remembers. Kansas City lost it’s appeal on charges of illegal tampering with Jeremy Maclin prior to his signing with the team. At the time, everyone was upset with the NFL for handing down such a harsh sentence. The Chiefs were fined 250k, and had to forfeit their 3rd and 6th round draft choices in the 2016 NFL draft. Just days before the draft started, losing that 3rd round pick would end up saving the Chiefs from themselves, and the rest is history. Let me explain. In 2016, Kansas City allegedly wanted to draft Paxton Lynch, the big tall QB from Memphis. KC, picking 28th, knew Lynch was coveted by other teams. In fact, Jerry Jones lamented after that draft, that he wished had “overpayed” to move up and draft Lynch. There were rumblings all over that KC was in on him as well. Denver, picking at 31, and needing a new QB after the retirement of Peyton Manning, ended up making the deal to move up to 26 and get Lynch. It might seem like picking at 28 and only needing to move up 2 spots, KC would be able to make a winning offer to Seattle to make it happen…but they didn’t have a 3rd round pick. Kansas City’s 3rd rounder, the 91st overall selection, was the pick KC had to give up for tampering with Maclin. Denver had the 94th overall pick, late in the third round and was able to package pick 31 and pick 94 to make the move up to 26. If KC had their 3rd rounder, Kansas City would have been able to outbid Denver with an offer of 28 and 91. As it was, the best the Chiefs could do was 28 and 126, their 4th round choice. Denver had the best offer, moved up and drafted Lynch. Kansas City would go on to trade back out of the 28th pick with San Francisco. The Chiefs sent the 28th (1st) and the 249th (7th) for 37 (2nd) 105 (4th) and 178 (6th). At 37, Kansas City would select, DT Chris Jones. At 105 they selected G Parker Ehinger, who started until he suffered an injury and then was traded to Dallas in 2017 for Charvarious Ward. Having missed out on Lynch in 2016, the Chiefs were still looking for a QB in 2017. We all know how that turned out. Who would have thought, such a trivial, heavy handed decision over tampering with a player, would ultimately lead to Kansas City acquiring Chris Jones, Charvarious Ward, and…Patrick Mahomes. Sometimes it’s the little, obscure events that we miss, that matter more than we think and more than we could ever know at the time.
  2. I'm not sure why Owners/GM's always go after the hot Coordinator......I mean...I understand why....but really as a HC, you need a smart football guy who is a leader of men. You have to know what you want to do and know how to make that happen. Too many coordinators don't have that kind of personality or force of will along with the credibility that comes with being a successful coordinator. In Pederson's case....that magical super bowl came too soon/easy if you can udnerstand what I mean.....I think he might have gotten a little too full of himself and isn't quite sure what do now that there are problems.....the big one being his QB.....and that QB's insane cap number. As far as the Andy Ried tree.....Matt Nagy had the one good year....with a stud D, and Trubisky playing OK. He hasn't been able to do much else.....Pederson....won the SB...but struggling now...because QB. In Nagy's case....the dude was out there publicly saying he wanted to draft Trubisky and they he could coach him up.... If you are looking at Bienemy as HC....I wouldn't really go into an interview and ask him if he can replicate what KC does...I'd ask him if he could lead a staff and a roster...competently....could he manage the personalities AND the clock. As a Chiefs fan, I wouldn't want to see Bienemy in Houston and especially not in LA if they fire Lynn. I think EB knows what it looks like to have a high end QB and how that can work and how to build a team around that. If I were a HC candidate....Jobs I would not want. Detroit - Philly - Chicago. No QB, and not much hope that you'd get one.
  3. I have to laugh at this.....you should see the Denver Bronco fans saying this EXACTLY about Allen....and how Allen would have failed in Denver....etc etc.
  4. I didn't read through every single post here, but I read alot of them.....I have 2 points. 1. first let me address the crowd that points out "Mahomes wouldn't be as good here as he is in KC because of weapons" Truly, Mahomes did end up in the optimal spot....KC was a great match for what he does and had skill players in place. I am sure that only in KC does the kid have 50/5000 season, but you are not giving enough credit to Mahomes for the things he does as a QB that lifts the entire roster around him. IF he had landed in Bufalo or anywhere else, he'd have been special and would have made the skill players on any roster look better than they are. Also....as a KC fan...It's irritating to keep seeing that the national perception is that we have "a good line". WE DO NOT have a good line. We have 2 good tackles and a very bad G-C-G combo. If Joe Flacco was KC's QB, he'd get killed. also, as great as you might think our RB are (there are good) .....KC SUCKS at getting any kind of push when you need a yard....they get pushed back. it's awful. I digress....Mahomes would even make the Jets a respectable team. 2. This whole thing has been talked out enough....For a team that gets called out for missing on Mahomes, the Bills landed squarely on their feet with Allen. He's a top end NFL QB talent at this point and he's fun as hell to watch. I know I enjoy it whenever I get a chance to watch Bills games. He is a guy you can build around and win a super bowl with. You'll be competing with Mahomes to do it....but Allen is one of the few young horses in this leauge who potentially can do that. This whole thing would another awful chapter in the long history of Bills missteps if you didn't land Allen....your franchise is in good shape! The Pegulas, from the outside looking in....seem like good owners that have made sound choices....they just kind of oddly handled that 2017 offseason wich made for a situation where taking a QB at 10 wasn't really something McD was going to be comfortable doing at his sole discretion. It's fine. Things turned out pretty good considering.
  5. Wow....you guys are really taking this loss bad. The Bills aren't a juggernaut of a team...but you guys are good! you lost to a KC team, that brought damn near the entire roster back from a super bowl winner. You might have not have noticed, but you lost to a good football team, and you were in it to the end. The weather certainly played a part in this game as well. there are at least 25 NFL teams that would trade their QB for Josh Allen right now.....you have your QB....he isn't perfect (who is?...did you see Aaron Rodgers this week?) This game helps tell you that you aren't quite there just yet...that's ok..you've been heading in the right direction for 3 years now.
  6. Frankly, I've been looking forward to giving some of the backups a chance....our interior 3 LG/C/RG starters have been bad for YEARS.....this Kilore at C for us is a major upgrade.
  7. Allen maybe feeling the presure to live up to matching up with the champ
  8. lets gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! ..............................................................Chiefs!
  9. Ugh...the kiss of death....all the broadcast crew picks your team......
  10. Hey Bills fans....I didn't ever really think this day would come. Until just recently, I never thought Josh Allen would ever become "the franchise". I'm glad that he has though....this is the best KC/Bufallo matchup since the 93 AFC title game. Just a few short years ago, who would have thought a KC VS Bufallo game would feature a matchup of elite QBs? I of course will be rooting for my Chiefs, but if you guys do win, I sure hope it isn't like that route KC put on you guys on MNF back in like 92 or whatever it was.....Im hoping for a good game....(and for the Chiefs to cover...I have them -4 1/2) PS.....no excuses for KC whatever happens....as long as we have Mahomes....we are defending champions.....if we lose, it's because we deserve to.
  11. FWIW....mahomes has never lost a game by more than one score.....they are IN every game to the last with him.
  12. I knew it the moment his name parsed the lips of Commissioner Goodell at the draft! (Ok, I am joking...you all saw my mea culpa thread I put up a couple weeks ago)
  13. First.....instead of debating this......I'd like to point out how very rare this WIN-WIN trade has turned out. KC got a superstar QB....usually when one team makes a trade and is on the side that ends up with the superstart QB...that means the other team must have lost the trade.....but that is NOT the case here. Buffalo ultimately ended up with star CB, a franchise QB, and has accomplished EVERYTHING they could have hoped for when they made that deal. Both teams got exactly what they wanted out of it and both teams are better for it. It's amazing how it all turned out. saw this nugget in the discussion....and have seen this and heard this A LOT. .....KC has the core locked up for for the next few years as it is....and KC has drafted well...there is talent in the pipeline that is cheap and viable. ...Buffalo will have the same challenge very soon too....and it's a WAY WAY WAY better problem/challenge than not having a franchise QB take up alot of cap space.
  14. I assume you are bashing Lamar for throwing a "high" number of short TD passes....most TD passes are short....becaus they are easier...if you look at all QB's they all have many more short TD throws than long ones.
  15. LOL.... Patrick Mahomes has NEVER socred fewer than 31 points VS Bill Belichick.
  16. I found this paragraph to be a bit homer-ish....."He can't throw like Josh"? Allen has a "better" arm? What throw does Josh make that Mahomes can't or doesn't make? ....Better Arm...both can launch it. if we are talking arm strength....they both have elite arm strength. ....then last sentence...LOL...Mahomes "can't learn to throw like Josh" ....uh....OH NO! my MVP, and Super Bowl MVP apparently can't throw like Josh Allen....man...what a bummer! Most offensive coordinators are able to dial up some plays where guys end up open. Daboll has his share of these. Mahomes often finds and hits these targets when they are "wide open" He also hits guys when they aren't wide open and throws them open etc....it's good when the QB does both. Uh...... Josh Allen 16 of 39 TD passes, inside 10 yards...that's 41% Lamar, 21/46 45% not exactly the stat you want to be trying to use here. The blueprint is out there. You must get pressure on Mahomes with your front 4 consistantly, and you give a bunch of different looks with man/zone combos that make mahomes have to process long enough for your pass rush to move him. The Chargers are a team that has given us (KC) fits with this for years. The 49ers were able to do it in the SB...KC still won....but that's how you slow Mahomes. I haven't seen enough of you guys to know yet, but if your front 4 can't get it done....that's not good for you. Happy Days makes an astute observation here. Mahomes was 16/19 with 3 TDS and something like 250 yards VS the Blitz against hte Ravens. Blitzing mahomes is a BAD idea. he kills blitzs. You need the front 4 to win on their own. KC more than doubled them in yardage etc. While the ravens did come withing 7 points in the 3rd Q when the score became 27-20, KC had some miscues that should have opened up a bigger score....missed XP, missed FG, that's 4 points, fumbled inside 20 on first drive of Q3. Didn't convert on a 3rd and 1, then 4th and 1, TO on downs. Score was closer than actual play indicated. KC D only gave up 13 points. Same thing last year. KC won 33-25. KC was up 33-10 going into Q 4. Game was never in doubt....Balt got garbage time TD including last TD with like 30 seconds left in the game....and there were 2 4th downs in the 4th Q where Lamar litteraly was being sacked and just lobbed up prayers...and they caught both.....score was much closer than the game actually was. It wasn't that close.
  17. Same as last year week 3 in KC when they played.....KC has completely obliterated these guys the last 2 times they've met.
  18. I do think the level of QB play overall, in the NFL has never been higher....and I think there are alot of contributing factors. 1. I do think, the NFL has come to understand that colleges are supplying guys that can run and pass, who aren't orthodox like the old days. 2. The rules favor passing, making it easier for some guys who might have been on the fringe, to now be successful 3. There are simply more people than ever being born and playing sports overall, wich was bound to lead to a few more genitically gifted, trained dudes that can QB 4. NFL scouting of QB has improved in the last decade...especially the last 5 years....they are getting better and knowing what to look for...so fewer busts. 5. The rookie NFL scale for draft picks has made it so that it isn't a franchise death nell when you miss on a 1st round QB like it used to be. Teams are willing to take the risk....Arizona was able to move on from Rosen after 1 season to draft Murray..that would NEVER have happend pre rookie scale. Alot of teams....like the Bills for example, could afford a guy like Allen who was high risk, high reward because the money wasn't prohibative if it didn't work. Still......all 32 can't be awesome....there will always be a degree of separation from best to worst. Also....as the passing games keep ramping up, we'll see teams like th 49ers and Titans shift to power run games or teams use big 3 TE sets against these small nickel and dime looks designed to prevent the pass......but yeah...QB play has never been better than it is now.
  19. I haven't had much else to comment on, besides Allen since I've been here...other than predicting preseason records for the entire NFL (a fools errand).....but I did want to post about this because I am not a chicken***t that talks and talks and then just runs away when it doesn't work out. My hot vietnamese wife makes killer fish sauce wings!
  20. .....that doesn't have anything to do with it..... It's easy to admit this because Allen has completely exceeded what I thought he'd be....if you go back and look at what I thought would happen.....it's easy to admit because I was clearly wrong about it.
