Next years starters - only getting better
warrior9 replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it’s Vosean Joseph, hes a MLB and was on IR. If it’s Jaquan Johnson... he was ST guy last year. -
Watch some of the Bills last year. Played well.
-
He's already better than EJ, though. I don't think havign someone on the roster that Josh has to look over his shoulder at is a good idea for his development.

Wow, you have reading comprehension issues. You are the guy that nitpicks starts arguments because of your lack of understanding/ for the sake of doing it I kind of feel bad for you. So let me break this down. Kawann Short has a great year playing next to Star. Star leaves. Kawann's play falls off... significantly. Is this a coincidence? JP was a decent player. He begins to play next to Star and he becomes a much better player. Is this a coincidence? Obviously (maybe not for you), JP has not played without Star and we have no way of knowing if his play will fall off, right now.
-
I didn't ignore any comparison? In your response to me, there was no phillips comparison. Jordan Phillips was a decent player before he started playing next to Star. Just like Kawann Short was. Star leaves, his play falls off.. coincidence? hmmmmmmm The bold makes me cringe. I'm not even responding to that.

Explain this, please. We have a pro-bowl second year LB. We have Jordan Phillips that benefited from him to the point we aren't even going to resign him. We had a top 3 defense in the NFL and he started. He started for the best defense in the NFL when McDermott was in Carolina.... this guy gets so much hate for being a pretty darn good player at his position.

Tom Brady has done this and turned his salary in to guaranteed money a few times.. i'm pretty sure that's what they did with Star. I'm not sure he took a pay cut but took a restructured deal to count less against the cap. I could be wrong. Either way, if you genuinely believe he is the worst FA signing of the last 5 years.... you have no watched Bills football. If contract, etc is included, Kroft is worse than Star tbh.

Free Agency News and Updates - around the league

I don't know Kurt Coleman's status... but if he walks, Reshad Jones just hit the market too. I'd love to see him and Karl Joseph at least LOOKED at! -
Lions to let Graham Glasgow hit free agency

I don't understand where this "Spain is a weakness" garbage comes from.........? -
If this is a reflection of the Bills evaluation of WR's, is it not a reflection of all other 31 teams? It's the XFL, they are not being covered by the same caliber of DB's. They saw him in practice everyday and if they thought he needed more time, I have no reason not to believe their evaluation. I've always liked Cam Phillips and thought he was at least a ST/ 5th receiver but I'm not a GM or coach in the NFL.

BUF-HOU Playoff Redux: 2nd Half Kickoff
warrior9 replied to GoBills808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the game of football was played based on intent, there would never need to be a game. -
I don't get how this keeps coming up..... Beane said he inquired about his availability just like any good GM would do if a great player became available. From what came out after, there wasn't even a deal in place. As for the actual poll. I love the culture, I think the roster is getting better. It just seemed like last year at times, they weren't letting Josh Allen be Josh Allen. I think this off-season and season is going to be a huge tell of McDermott and Co.

In looking at safety depth -- Karl Joseph is a FA
warrior9 replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh, I'm aware, it was more of a joke with the NewEra... he said he was always hurt a few times in his post. Edit: the "he was always hurt" comments were about Joseph, not Dugger -

I know, I wasn't saying that to castrate Poyer by any stretch. I just think that we can get better with depth here. If we can spell, maybe Poyer is more healthy and doesn't get dragged? Who knows. I don't think any one should be judged on that game. -
So what does "carry a team" mean, like you mentioned in your other post? Isn't that like saying they could take a team to a championship? Henry did it because he's a monster and their o-line was playing lights out, as was their defense. RB's (especially pass-catching RB's) can NOT carry a team. It's literally..... never happened. I don't want to give up any amount of 1/2nd round picks for someone that couldn't "carry" us. There are very few players. Mack--- who they traded 2 1st for got them to the playoffs his first year........ last year... they didn't make the play offs now they have no first or second round picks... it's just a VERY slippery slope.
-
I'm also.... just not sold on this guy or YGM .... I feel like they're highly rated because of how weak the draft class is at this position. I don't want us to draft the best of a bad bunch, if that makes sense.

In looking at safety depth -- Karl Joseph is a FA

Nah, I didn't miss that. The point of this thread is also not about offense.. maybe you also missed that. It's clear the strength of this team is the defense. Why not keep it that way while the offense is developing? Making tackles in critical situations was definitely a weakness of the unit (on more than one occasion).... maybe.... you missed that my guy. -

This especially with his size and tenacity.. He could play 1st and second down..... I think he'd be a HUGE upgrade over Marlowe/ Neal/ Johnson..... Must have missed Poyer being dragged 15 yards and Milano / Neal missing tackles on Watson. -

I don’t disagree. I think they’re going to fall in love with his versatility. he can play big in the box and can play man high(albeit not as good as Poyer). I’d love to see what Karl Joseph’s market value is. -
I was just browsing through free agents coming up here and I was surprised to see his name. I would love it if he Bills looked hard at Karl Joseph, especially with Poyer contract situation and how he seemingly wants to get paid. Joseph was a first round pick a few years ago by an older regime, he's 5'10, 200 pounds and can play that hybrid in the box safety McD loves. Our tackling last year was not spectacular and I think Joseph can help upgrade here. I don't think he was put in the best situation in Oak and these are the type of guys McBeane feast on. Beyond Poyer and Hyde, we really only have Johnson and Marlowe so we can definitely upgrade there. According to Spotrac, his AAV is 6 mill per. I think our depth in the secondary will be a focal point in FA's / trades (I'd love if we finagled Josh Jackson from GB for a mid- late round pick).
