Why do new coaches overhaul rosters?
BigDingus replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want to go into detail about how awful it is when coaches do this, but I'm tired. You're right though, it rarely works. It usually just causes a revolving door of creating holes, wasting drafts replacing those holes, and then getting canned when "your guys" didn't have time to grow into the players you want. Then the next coaching staff comes in, cleans house, and the cycle starts again. It's a good way to keep your franchise in the crapper for years. -
Next week: BILLS 42, PATS 27!!!
BigDingus replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL must be. The Bills scoring the equivalent of half their point total through the year so far in one game? That would be a sight to behold, especially coming from Anderson. -
To be honest, I like that version of Brady more than his normal self. He's usually a clone of Belichick...calm, quiet (except on the field when he's yelling at his team), all business, boring, politically correct, says all the right things, etc. Actually having a personality? Now that's an improvement, even if it is calling out the BillsMafia. And let's be honest, we would love to hate him instead of just hate him if we were even semi-competitive against him the past 2 decades. It was fun to hate Dan Marino, but that's because we could beat him at his best. But with Brady? He can beat us after an all night bender, on no sleep, while concussed.

We should trade for Bridgewater NOW
BigDingus replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right. Last time I heard that was JP Losman...oh wait, it was Trent Edwards, wait nvm, it was Ryan Fitzpatrick, no that's not it, it was EJ Manuel, oh shoot...it was Tyrod Taylor! It's always something, it's just never the QB is it? If it's not the WR's or TE's, it's the O-line...if not the O-line, it's the Offensive Coordinator. If not the OC, it's the HC. It's the f'ing QB's... And I'm saying this as someone who's well aware of the O-line & WR situations, as I've been harping on it all offseason. But unless you haven't been paying attention to the All-22 breakdowns or what everyone in the world can see, the QB's are far WORSE than any other position on offense. Until the QB's can even improve to the level of the other skill positions, you can't blame them. There's plenty of evidence showing the WR's, as poorly assembled a group as they may be, are getting open more often than not, and it's the awful QB play that's really dragging down the offense. Any half-decent QB could at least consistently go 16/25 for 175 yards, and 1 TD with most any group of WR's and TE's. Problem is we don't have anything even close to resembling "half decent." Deny all you want, but you're foolish to pretend otherwise. Ignore all the players (both former, and current...including those on our team), coaches, scouts, experts, journalists (both local & national), statistics, etc. but no capable QB's could crap the bed week in & week out like Josh Allen + Peterman + Anderson. - Peter King, Murph & Tasker - https://wgr550.radio.com/media/audio-channel/10-16-hr-3-one-bills-live (Bills QB situation is "lunacy") - All 22: https://twitter.com/Cover_1_/status/1049420057254776832 - More All 22 (Allen's supporting cast is limited by HIM, not the other way around) - https://thedraftnetwork.com/2018/10/09/josh-allens-struggles-go-beyond-lackluster-supporting-cast/ - Todd Gurley alone has more points than the entire Bills Offense - https://sports.yahoo.com/todd-gurley-outscored-bills-7-weeks-025127902.html - The Bills passing offense is averaging the same stats as teams from 1941 - http://www.footballperspective.com/week-6-passing-stats-the-bills-are-above-average-at-passing-for-1941/ But stay in denial, even though all the evidence points to the QB's holding back the already low-skilled WR's, TE's and offense in general -
Unless our defense can hold them to a field goal all game, their historically bad defense won't matter. And in reference to their "historically bad" defense, it's only comparing it to their own franchise. Our "historically bad" offense on the other hand is bad on an actual league-wide historical level....not just our own franchise.

Umm what? When you say "these times," do you mean like this exact season, or are you forgetting the last 2 decades of misery? Just because we barely made the WC & lost, we never were even close to "becoming a contender," nor have we been for ages! People that complain have every right to complain, as they've been watching this team fail year after year. To try & chastise them for not being big enough fanboys is ludicrous! Maybe stop swallowing all the crap your fed & expect more from your team. I mean, I know it's only been a measly 20 whole years, and that's clearly not enough time to build a successful roster, but maybe you should realize that these people who are upset are just as much a fan of the team as you are...only endless patience isn't a virtue they share with you.

Patrick Mahomes: He is having an incredible season
BigDingus replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the other thread also is discussing the amazing season he's having this year...Not just how we consistently make picks like grabbing Allen instead of Mahomes, or Watkins instead of Odell Beckham or Mike Evans. -
I'm more interested in what all the limes mean... Hmmm...Well obviously the word "Lime" is the word "Lie" with an "M" in it, therefore it's saying the Quote is a "Lie" by "M" which is McDermott. And "Taco" is just the Latin word for Bull****, which again signifies that McDermott the Limer isn't being truthful about Anderson starting.

I searched through the posts to see if anyone else was thinking along these lines, came across another thread discussing going after him in the offseason, and thought that's not soon enough. Listening to the national media the past several days, the Jaguars have been the subject of a lot of discussions. After yesterday's loss, and subsequent quotes from Marrone throwing doubt on their QB position for the upcoming week, there's even more speculation surrounding what their plan of action might be. They're a team with a great defense, but are failing so miserably on offense it's hard to gauge where they stand competitively. Sound like anyone else? Names are being thrown around left & right as to who the Jags should target if they have any hopes of righting their ship, but Bridgewater seems to be the most popular candidate. Although I feel it's far too big an ask at this point for any QB to salvage our season, we can make it not a total loss by also getting a real QB under center who offers far more upside than simply being a warm body not named Peterman. Our coaching staff & brass were idiots regarding how they handled our QB situation post-Tyrod, but they have a chance to actually offer some sense of stability, hope, and performance, while simultaneously not completely losing the locker room. With Bridgewater, they can at least give the appearance that they aren't completely inept, that they do care about winning, and most importantly, to motivate the guys in locker room not to phone it in for the remainder of the season. Trotting out an old relic we had for barely over a week, who ideally should've been on the roster the moment camp started to mentor Allen, does not signal you are taking the horrible situation you made for yourself seriously. A 25 year old, former 1st round pick, who was talented enough to be named Pepsi Rookie of the Year in 2014, make the NFL's All Rookie team at QB, and make the Pro Bowl in the 2015 season (his only full year as a starter), and is 17-11 as a starter, is definitely worth a look. If any current league backup could spark some confidence in this team, while also having the benefit of being developed in your system & molded into the type of player you can confidently start or retain as a backup for years, it's Bridgewater. He also played in a system that valued running the ball, playing defense, not turning the ball over, etc. while even being able to churn out 300+ yard passing games when needed. The Saints traded a 3rd round pick for him (plus a 6th from the Jets), in a move which showed some real foresight & experience from the coaching staff. We'd likely have to offer a bit more, but with the way Brees is playing, it's likely they can be coaxed into parting ways since it's clear they still have a very real window left to win another championship. The Bills stand to gain more than just a win or 2 this year. They gain an insurance plan, they gain fan confidence, they gain player confidence, they gain at least SOME full time experience, they gain a guy who plays the style of football they claim to want, and they gain MONEY. Perhaps not as important from a fan perspective, the ownership would appreciate that bit a great amount. The way the season is heading, fans will be less inclined to tune in each passing week. A couple more blowouts against awful teams, watching the offense fail to move the ball & toss up record amounts of turnovers, will lead to fan interest taking a nose dive until the 2019 draft. And when an offense is THIS bad, the defense will be less interested to put their bodies on the line for an inevitable loss, or playing behind guys who won't be on the team at the end of the season. And Allen? He wasn't ready to start in the first place. He wasn't a great player in JUCO or College anyway, and was drafted on the hope that over time, the coaching staff would be able to correct his issues & mold him into a player capable of simply starting, let alone becoming a franchise player. Having Bridgewater to take the reigns for the time being affords him REAL time, not Derek Anderson kind of time....you know, a guy they invested nothing to get, never wanted, and is only there because another guy who's awful can't be thrown out there. When you know Anderson is going to be benched the first second Allen is able to play, it doesn't afford him the serious time he needs to grow (possibly even heal). Worse, if Allen looks the same at the end of the year as he does now, how does our QB position look going into next year? With Bridgewater around, at least our coaching staff will be there to see it, and at least they will still be there to groom their QB of the future in Allen. Without a real, viable backup or plan in place for the position outside of "hope to god Allen improves dramatically somehow while laying an egg on the field each week," McDermott & Co. won't even be afforded the time needed to coach up their prospect, which we all know leads to the next coaching staff coming in & cleaning house of the old regime's picks. If we ever want Allen to be worth a damn, it can't get to that point. Otherwise, we all better hope whoever takes McDermott's spot is the 2nd coming of Sean McVay & that he rights the ship in year 1...or else expect a new QB to be drafted in 2020.

Raiders now Shopping Derek Carr (?)
BigDingus replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as it sucks to say this, he's easily worth more than what we gave up for Allen, no question. The problem is can we really afford to give up such a large haul two years in a row? I don't know...but man, this Bills team would look a hell of a lot more dangerous with someone like Carr behind center. -
Long hair is not a strategic advantage

5) Marshawn Lynch would drag 5 people behind him all hanging onto his dreads. BEAST MODE can handle it! -
I don't think they're "trash," but depending on the metrics used, you can have two different takeaways judging the same players. The offense as a whole isn't playing anywhere close to average, let alone above average, that much is certain. Didn't an article come out just this past week showing the 2018 Bills offense is performing at HISTORICALLY low levels, not just among Bills teams, and not just this season, but among all teams over the past several decades? This offense as a whole was ranked the 2nd worst ever among all those teams over all those years, and yet PFF has nobody rated below average on an individual level... Hmmm, not sure how to take that, but I still think PFF is usually a pretty good outlet for breaking down football.

Predict the score: Bills at Colts
BigDingus replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills - More than Zero Colts - More than the Bills -
I was screaming this from the rooftops well before the season began...explaining how we had the worst, least experienced QB group in the league by miles!! Just as it was obvious to see the O-line was a weakness, or the WR's were a weakness, the QB position was clearly a trainwreck waiting to happen. But damn offseason hype makes everyone think that every move we make is somehow perfect, or that the best result is always going to happen no matter how ridiculous it sounds. Even with McCarron it would've been a mess, but at least it wasn't as awful as going into the season with only Allen & Peterman! I'm not HC or pro-talent evaluator, but it was so frigging obvious, & that's why it's so maddening right now! And now we start off development of another QB on a horrible note, just like is typical in our franchise history, which points to yet another line of events which will only snowball downhill from here... The offense sucks, we need a scapegoat, we fire the OC, we sign a vet who plays decent & divides the fanbase, leading to a "QB competition" going into next season, all while the coaches double down on the rookie they invested, possibly setting the franchise back even further if there's any failure, costing the HC their job, and starting another rebuilding process by the next coach who guts all the old regime's players, then spends the next couple drafts picking "his guys" to fill all the holes he just created. No, I'm not all gloom & doom, rather this is just the obvious line of events that happens when crap like this occurs. We've seen it all before, and it's frustrating to see the early gears in motion so soon.

Anderson's real value to the team
BigDingus replied to BruceVilanch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was incompetent in this regard, and having a veteran on the roster is a huge asset to a young QB. Both can be true... -
NFL worried about Chargers viability in LA
BigDingus replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Speaking of "huge" cities, San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country...granted some cities below it have larger have a larger metroplex, but it's still a huge market that could easily support a team. Cities like Houston & Dallas can EASILY support their own teams without cannibalizing San Antonio's market, as Texas is the 2nd most populous state in the entire country. It's not like they're short of people down here, and Dallas is already a national team anyway. And Houston is a massive city too, so no worries there. It's an over 3 hour drive, and has it's own territory carved out. It's the same distance from Houston to San Antonio as it is Buffalo to Cleveland, and those two teams coexist fine, with much smaller cities representing them. I don't understand the view that San Antonio just wouldn't work...It easily would, it's just the politics in the state (and Jerry Jones) that try to nix that idea. 1. New York 2. Los Angeles 3. Chicago 4. Houston 5. Philadelphia 6. Phoenix 7. ***SAN ANTONIO*** 8. San Diego 9. Dallas 10. San Jose -
Woods, Watkins, Hogan and Goodwin
BigDingus replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Should make you even more ill that we could've had Odell & Mahomes on the same squad, plus the draft stock invested in both Watkins & Allen. -
Brady has been surviving without an arm for even longer...It's nothing short of a miracle (nightmare) he's still playing at a high level in this league.
-
Makes me curious as to what fans would rather have (not that it matters)... Would you rather have donations for projects like this, or would you rather he donated all $1.2 million (or $1.3 now) towards a new stadium that would cost taxpayers nothing, and ensuring the Bills stay in Buffalo for years to come?
-
Clever! I think if you went back through the threads I posted, you'd see I definitely know what I'm talking about.
-
He'd have a better chance of developing on the bench. People wanting Anderson to start are likely wanting what Allen and the Bill's should've had in the first place - an experienced vet to mentor the rookie while simultaneously giving us a buffer for the year and allowing our 7th overall pick to not embarrass himself on a weekly basis. Because if you call what you've seen of Allen so far "developing," you obviously enjoy complete and utter failure. We had 29 passing yards right before Allen had his 1 big pass & went down...He had 82 last week, and the week before was in the 80's until GB went into garbage time mode midway through the 4th. If you add Allen's Passer Rating the last 3 weeks together, sure, he's sitting at a 159.6, better than a perfect 158.3! But if you consider that his average becomes 53.2, that's Peterman today level performance.... for 3 straight weeks.
-
People won't accept what's smacking them in the face when it comes to Allen. We used a ton of assets to get him, so those that hyped themselves up on him during the offseason will need a loooong time to adjust their perception on him. Remember all those posts claiming accuracy doesnt matter, stats don't matter, performance in his own conference didnt matter, play against good opponents didn't matter, etc.? The defensive fortress went up quickly, so it'll take a massive amount of miserable performances to chip away at it and have a realistic discussion on Allen.
-
I knew before the Bills played a single snap that it wouldn't take long for fans to be calling for the OC to be fired. Usually, it's unwarranted and impossible to judge based on such horrible personnel. But it's the game-losing decisions that are finally making me break.... With 1:34 left, game tied 13 to 13, wtf was the mindset going into that drive?! Most people would think "make the Texans burn their 2 timeouts, run down the clock, and play to flip field position considering how phenomenal our defense is playing!" On top of that, if we get a 1st down or 2, THEN we can consider playing a bit more aggressively and go to close it out. That's BEFORE taking into account who was behind center and how inept the offense has been, but factoring those 2 things in should've GUARANTEED there was no other choice their. But no... we foolishly go all Bills mode out there, proving that McDermott is cut from the same cloth as all those boneheaded hires before him. Incomplete pass, stopping the clock, leading to a 2nd pass and an easy game-sealing pick 6. It's maddening to watch something so predictable yet preventable consistently ruin games.
