  1. FA options would be who comes out of Minnesota and see if Luck is available for trade. Can't get either I move up for a starting Qb. As time is going on I have it as Rosen, Allen, Mayfield, Darnold, and Jackson. I would be ok with any of those guys. if the only Qbs brought in are backups, than I want Rosen or Mayfield and Jackson. I think Allen has the best upside followed by Darnold but wouldnt want to go 100% with either day 1. They very well could earn it day 1 but I wouldn't feel as confident as the other 3 without being pushed or battling for the spot. Jackson is so athletic he may win rookie of the year but still not have a better career than any of the other guys. I know I have Jackson 5th and its confusing that Im more confidant with him over 2 guys I rank above him but for me his running ability is going to give teams immense problems the first time they see him. Im not sure how he will adjust when he has to win in the pocket and he will at some point end of year 1 and year 2 prove he can that is why I have him 5th.
  2. Its a unique situation but also the coach hasn't had a chance to evaluate the team and set his own plan into place. They have a good position in the draft but have a wide range of needs and not alot of cap space. If the coach is who everyone expects he very well may like Brissett and be fine with him as a placeholder to develop a rookie. If they move Luck early on in the league year they can add much more help during FA with the added cap space. Do you gamble Luck is back to what he was and build around him? If he is not his market will never be higher than now and they would be stuck with a massive contract. That is as boom or bust as taking Mayfield Rosen, Darnold, or Allen but for significantly less financial obligations to at least sure up the rest of the roster. I 100% believe that it will be a major discussion for them and If the right offer comes calling it could sway it. To me it will be one of the main stories to follow this off-season.
  3. A healthy Luck at a much lower hit than Cousins would be perfect. It would take a NO style roll of the dice. Brees did not pass a physical at Miami and Saban couldnt get the organization to clear him. Payton took him as is and the rest is history. A 1st and a 3rd with a conditional pick next year. If Luck plays 50% of the snap a 3rd. 80% goes to a second. Make the probowl it is a 1st. Indy at 3 could decided to move on get a top Qb and build the roster around them added cap space and draft picks.
  4. Knowing Whaley and the entire scouting department was gone after the draft there was not chance Mcdermott was going to rely on that department to land him a franchise qb. Carr or Wilson were not top 10 rated prospects coming out of college. They proved to be good players but not really the same caliber of prospect as im decribing. Kelly was the last stellar qb drafted high. Ej was a pick of necessity not ability.
  5. They are both white and play Qb. Even if Lucks shoulder is so bad they amputate his right arm, I would feel more comfortable with Luck throwing left hand than starting Peterman.
  6. This. I almost guarantee Beane would much rather bring in 5 or 6 mid tier at the same cost of signing Cousins. The largest contract imo wont be over 40 mil total and i expect that to be a DT or DE. They have the space to add 2 Hyde level Fa and 5 Poyer level. Then use the Draft to add what you cant find in Fa. A franchise Qb and sideline to sideline baker. In round 3 add a running back or pass catcher.
  7. I believe that was more a change in philosophy from Beane and Gettleman to there current GM. Beane seems to have the Parcells philosophy there is a finite amount of large men in the world so try to get as many as you can. You cant teach size or speed. Everyone in the NFL is fast not every is big and fast. Hopkins has the largest hands in the league and has made the most contested catches since entering the league. He plays much larger than his frame.
  8. Your nightmare is my fantasy. If Buffalo walks away from the draft with Allen, Rosen, or Darnold I will be delighted. Also, if Buffalo felt that strongly for Mayfiled or Jackson I would be fine with it as well. Buffalo has not been poor enough to be in position to draft a franchise Qb in my life time. The only time they were close was when Newton went 1. By making the moves they made during training camp and the season Buffalo has a surplus of picks. If they used 3 or 4 picks to get into the top 5 to get a franchise Qb I am all aboard that bandwagon I may even be driving it. After getting the Qb they still should have a second to add an athletic linebacker, lineman, or pass catcher. With the rest of the draft go BPA. By not spending all the cap space this year on 1 player they will be able to sure up the holes in the starting line up. Now they dont have to be starters but also doesn't leave the position bare for a rookie to start regardless of readiness. I think Zay is a prime example of forcing a rookie to play before he was 100% ready to.
  9. I think Buffalo will keep Shady. He was very good last year. However, I could see the majority of those players being cut. I think if you move Alexander to situational pass rusher he can lead the special teams and get some sack off the edge and can earn his salary. Interested to see Beanes first full off season. I dont expect Buffalo getting into bidding wars for any Fa. That includes Qb. The cost for Cousins would be the opposite of building through the draft. By building through the draft I beileve that means that is where to get difference makers and franchise corner stones. I think they will look to fill the holes of the roster with mid tier guys. The right fit and you can find some diamonds. Like Hyde and Poyer last offseason. The Bills were 8-4 when Gaines played so I think he is a priority to resign. Beane likes Benjamin so after his knee heals up I expect buffalo to extend him this year to lower his cap hit. The roster will be churned just as much as it was last year. This year they have more picks and more cap space to work with.
  10. The best drop back pocket passer in the draft is Rosen. I think his off the field stuff is over blown. The headlines he made during the offseason came from a place of empathy for his teammates and other athletes. Very smart guy. My greatest concern with him is going to be longevity and ability to absorb punishment of a NFL season. If he doesnt get hurt I think he easily becomes the best Qb in this class. Some think this class is poor because there is not the 100% sure thing. There have been 2 Qbs in 35 years that are that. Elway and Luck are were the only ones. This class has 4 legit top 10 caliber qbs. Most classes have 1 or 2 first rd quality Qbs. It would not be to crazy to see 6 first rd Qbs this year. The Bills haven't had a potential franchise Qb since Bledsoe and Losman. Imo they need figure out which guy they like best and try to go get them. This draft is the difference of Beane and Mcdermott being in Buffalo for 10 plus years or 3.
  11. Looking back on that draft I dont think he trusted Whaley and the staff in place to draft a qb in rd 1. Call it ego call it what you will, if they draft Watson or Mahomes Whaley is still the GM. Knowing Whaley and the whole scouting department was let go something wasnt right and the trade down allows them to get a qb this year. The Qb class this year grades as a higher class and more talented prospects.
  12. They bust at lower rate than Qbs taken in every other rd combined.
  13. I disagree. Eagles, Rams and Texans seem to have found franchise Qbs. So if the best prospects are going top 10 why wouldnt you use some of the assests gained to get one of those guys? Its not the Saints or Vikings trading the farm for 1 player. Buffalo could move up by packaging 21,22 and the 2nd from La to get a caliber and potenial at Qb that Buffalo has not had since Kelly. That may seem steep to you but that still leave Buffalo with a full compliment of picks for 2018 and 2019. Getting a franchise Qb should be the top focus this off season.
  14. Interesing debate but TD was first team all pro 3 times vs 1. Terrell Davis was more dominate than Craig. Believe a knee injury derailed his career. But he is in the hall the same way Gale Sawyers is.. Their best games and season were best ever category.
  15. If he doesnt show improvement in TC he will not make the final roster.
  16. Agreed. Its typical Fa speak. Mario Williams and Suh said the same thing when he entered FA. Imo The only way he sign with us or Denver is if his market isnt as hot as he thought or all his offers around 25 mil a year.
  17. Imo it is no less risky than paying Cousins 125 mil. He hasn't won but put up big numbers. It is high possible that Cousin never lives up to contract like the majority of the high priced FA.
  18. I want to trade up for a Qb. I want an adequate Qb who is a better passer than Taylor at Qb. Im hoping that they are the backup or play at a level the rookie cant beat them out. Bradford has the highest probability of being the later and if in week 3 or 4 Bradford goes down the rookie comes in and never looks back. That is Ideal imo. I mean be aggressive go get him on opening day of Fa offer him a little more than Taylor and starting spot on the roster. The rook beats him out thats on him. Im not massively over paying and I think Bradford knows his injuries hurts his market.
  19. As a Qb id prefer Bradford. His injury history is what it is. Also, the last few years when healthy he showed to be an above average Qb and healthy today is a better Qb than Taylor. I think that Bradford should be the target. Buffalo could sign Bradford and a starting DT for much less than the price tag for Cousin. Im for Buffalo using the Fa period to bring in guys to compete for spots at each of the weakness or holes on the roster. Use the Draft to get a Qb you think could become a Franchise Qb and spend the second and third round picks to find a starter or day 1 sub package starter on offense and defense. I think that is the best option Buffalo could go. Im not saying I wouldn't reach out to Cousins but if he wants 25 mil plus a year and a massive guarantee like I expect him to want I would move on to the next guy on my list. With Cousins being the hot commodity playing the averages and making a move for Bradford or which ever Qb they like first may be the smart move so you are not stuck with out a Qb when it all said and done. Id prefer Bridgewater but Imo he seems to be Zimmers guy. There was talk he would be the starter this year but Keenum went a run and didnt give Bridgewater a chance. I think the Op is using the logic that Minny keeps 2 and those two most likley are Keenum and Bridgewater.
  20. Right but I am not advocating going Redskins and spending a bunch of money and high priced FA. I look at what they did last year to sure up the secondary with a little more to spend this year Im looking for a similar approach to Dline and Linebaker. I expect a DT to be the equivalent to Hyde. Maybe not a household name and not a top 5 contract for the position. The way last season was handled with an emphasis on the front 7 instead of the back 4 and possible deap threat WR ie john Brown or Paul Richardson. Going all in on Cousins is overpaying and paying a premium for a guy who more likely than not will not match the production that contract would carry. Imo signing Cousins Buffalo is going almost full rebuild by relying on a significant amount of rookies and first year players. Even by trading up they will still be in position in round 2 and 3 to go BPA and add possibly an athletic linebaker, deep threat wr, Olineman, or dlineman. For alot less money they could go with which ever Qb leaves the Vikings, i think Buffalo would go hard at Bradford. Other possibilities would Macarron, Bortles, Alex smith all to compete with the rookie. Or the nightmare to many keeping Taylor. Cousin is going eat up a large amount of cap space and I do not think going rookie to fill every hole is the answer. IMO go after mid-level FA and young players with potential in FA to fill up the holes and draft impact players.
  21. Im on the other side. Who ever pays him highest guaranteed contract is the team he signs with. Sure with in a few mil he will go to the best team and fit. If Cleveland offers 100 mil guaranteed and a total of 125 or 130 hes a Brown.
  22. It comes down to philosophy to me. By signing Cousins you are filling the biggest need of the franchise through FA. You are going to sign him to a premium contract. You are going to be paying him more than the Elite Qbs are making. By doing so every hole on the team DT, 3 LBs, CB, Oline and Wr are going to be filled by a rookie going into next year. You may be able to get an old vetran at 1 or 2 of those positions but going into the 2018 season you are looking at starting 6 to 7 rookies. I know building through the draft is important but to me that is too much. This past year shows that there needs to be good balance and good competition. By not signing Cousins you can pretty much sign a starter in FA at each group listed including QB. The biggest contract handed out imo should be DT that is second largest hole to Qb. With Buffalo abundance of draft picks I realisticly believe Buffalo can move up on draft day and pay a high price. The actual number of picks im not sure of but it will be significant. Still what ever trade will still leave the Bills with 6 or 7 picks this year. After getting the first franchise Qb potential Qb since Kelly they will still have the ability to add 2 or 3 day 1 contributors. By filling holes in Fa they will not be desperate to find 4 to 5 starters but 1 or 2 starters and 3 to 4 depth players. Building a balanced and disciplined football you need a good balance of veteran leadership and young athleticism. The best success is to fill as many holes as you can in Fa. Look to add 2 impact players in the draft and allow time to develop the rest of the picks.
  23. No team works that way. With how inept Cleveland looks and is percieved it would look like they are scared to pick the wrong guy. Worst not good enough at their jobs to evaluate which QB will fit best in their system. Neither is a good perception for your first year. Its not a randsom. Its the reason you trade Darby and Watkins in traing camp. Get the ammunitions to get a Franchise Qb. You are not going to outbid anyone in FA and a good one isnt falling to 21. Use the cap space to sure up the defense and add speed at Wr. Get a Franchise Qb and 2 other day 1 contributors.
  24. That makes 0 sense. If you are going to draft a qb @ 4 take the one you want at 1. Im a big PSU and Barkley fan, but QB is more important and harder to find. If Buffalo doest draft a Qb they best traded for Luck or signed Cousins.
  25. Probably the richest Qb draft in some time. Buffalo has the most picks they have ever had. Move up get a top qb. Stil have a 2nd and 3rd to find two other positional starters. Buffalo cant keep punting on qbs. There are drafts when there are no clear first rd talents. This year there is 4. Buffalo needs to do what it takes to get one.
