Have any of you been in this situation before??(vague title)
Success replied to BillsBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most teams lose a lot. The Bills have had more historical heartbreak, but I don't believe in curses. To me, that just says that our best days are ahead, given the odds. -
Anyone know the details on this contract? I know it's been discussed - but can we save any money if we cut him?

Wasn't our defense a shell of itself also?

Divisional Playoffs - Chiefs at Bills - Post game thread
Success replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, I'm so tired of the dissecting of Allen's decision to go to the EZ on that play. This kind of analysis just doesn't happen 20 years ago. But now we have hundreds of pods, websites, shows, et al, with all of the "experts" weighing in. The fact that this one play is getting so scrutinized is more a symptom of where we're at in terms of sports culture than any kind of reasonable assessment of a game. -

I know what you mean here. I feel a little the same way. I think it's just the history. I was way more excited about the Texans playoff game, and the Colts & then the Ravens. But as time has gone on and we keep fizzling, it feels heavier. Almost a jaded feeling. At this point, my expectations for a title are so much lower than they were after 13 seconds. I plan to just enjoy Bills football now, and if we get one eventually, it will just be an amazing surprise that I'll relish. -

I promised to stay away from the media - but failed. It's making me sad how the game has become one more in this neverending referendum on Josh Allen. The expectations of him are comical at this point. And if you point out that once again, he carried the team & got almost no help, you're "making excuses" for him. Because he's just not a "big game player." And all anyone talks about is his "choice" to go to the EZ instead of to Diggs - like he had time to draw up a list of pros and cons, and look at all of the options in front of him w/ about 2 seconds. And he likely gets hit on a throw to Diggs also. We're not talking about a 2 INT game where JA just didn't show. Every one of those 24 points was his play, which was as good a performance as many that have been nationally praised for other QB's, because their teams happened to win. -
We'll be a good team next year - possibly as good. If we can stay just a little healthier, I'll feel good about our chances. We lost on a couple of plays yesterday. That's how it goes. It doesn't mean we're all of a sudden not a contender.

How can anyone who watched the endless quest for a QB since Kelly suggest trading Allen? That makes no sense, at all. If Allen is "worse" than Mahomes and Burrow somehow, it ain't by much. It's fantastic to have this kind of QB. It's quite likely that Josh Allen will go down as the best QB in Bills history - even 100 years from now. He's amazing. -

It's hard to watch that Diggs play. His 1st couple of years here, he just caught everything - or at least it seemed that way. He was the one guy I always trusted to make the play. I know he's been off, and he might be playing hurt - but if he catches that, I'm gonna bet this board is a different place today, and the media narratives are all pretty different about "underachieving" Allen. -
Wow, was that a great read. This guy absolutely nailed it. Against my better common sense, I checked Wright's tweets after the game - just to see if there was any grace, or sportsmanship. But of course, he was a sore as a sore winner can be. He is so obsessed w/ Allen, and when the Bills lose, it's always because of Allen. He's the ultimate clown, and it's a disgrace that sports media elevates guys like this. I played my part, because I clicked - but that's really what it is now. Be outrageous, get clicks, make money.

Random talking head says something about the Bills
Success replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen had more total yards. His biggest mistake was going for a TD to a wide open receiver. Mahomes MISSED wide open receivers twice, one for an easy TD. Allen had to carry his team. Mahomes didn't. Which is always the story. -
I won't root against KC because they beat us. I'll root for them to make the SB, and then lose - preferably by a lot. More often than not, the SB loser has a hard time the following season. Sign me up for that.

Random talking head says something about the Bills

I've already seen more than a few Chiefs fans say something to the effect of "I don't ever want to hear again that Allen is in the same conversation as Mahomes." I mean, whatever you say guys. It's not like there are 21 other guys on the field who can make a play and impact the outcome or anything. If it's only, strictly about W's and L's, Mahomes is the better QB. But who simplifies the game like that? Allen was better than Mahomes yesterday, and he was better in the 13 seconds game. Not by much - but the idea that Mahomes is better because his team wins these games is too uninformed for me. It's not an opinion I respect. -

I'm not sure what that means. Both guys get WAY more help from the rest of their teams. It really boggles my mind how anyone can blame Allen for anything. He has carried this team on his back since he got here. -
It's all relative. We can all see how coaching around the league is. Reid is way better - but he's better than everyone. There simply are not a lot of good or great coaches in this league. McDermott has clear strengths, imo. The team is always prepared & motivated, and he gameplans well. Every single loss is close - so close. We do not get blown out. We'd be taking a chance hiring someone else, unless it was a proven guy like Belichick. Which I would support. I think this team would win a SB with BB.

Allen carries this team all the time. All the time. He gets a couple of mulligans. -
If we make the switch - I'd go Vrabel or Belichick. I think McDermott did a good job this year. He really isn't a bad coach. But it just feels like we might need a change. It's unfortunate, but there is baggage w/ "McDermott's Bills" now. A change at the HC position would give us a bit of a new lease, and some fresh energy.

In his presser yesterday, I felt so bad for him. There seemed to be a lot he wasn't saying. If he isn't upset that his teammates let him down yet again, he's a better man than me. The frustration with no one else on the team making a big play or having an impact has to be taking a toll. It's a repetitive theme.
-
I love Diggs. He isn't a "cancer" - that's a media creation, largely based on his time in Minny and one sideline exchange w/ Allen. But I think of how Belichick ran his teams. Always move on from a player before they really decline. Maybe it's time to think about it, if we can get good compensation.
-
Elway might be a better comparison. It's a good point about Allen's running. He'll have to adjust his game at some point. He tried earlier this season - and it didn't work. But like Elway, it could depend on the team they build around him. And Allen has a great arm & touch - he'll always be a top 5 passer, even without his running.

Is Bills/Chiefs a rivalry? I think it is. But most Chiefs fans don't. I guess it depends how you define it. I also thought Colts/Patriots was a rivalry, prior to Manning breaking through in 2006. For me, it's just more about the games - how important they are, how much everyone anticipates them, et al. -
I see so many comps to Rivers & the Chargers now. Great QB, good team - but can never get over the hump. Maybe I can't get past my own bias, but I see Allen as an all-time great. Rivers was never that. It's so hard for me to imagine that Allen won't get over the hump at some point and win at least 1 title. The comparisons I prefer are Peyton Manning, who was owned by the Patriots until he wasn't, and Michael Jordan, who lost to the Pistons 3 times in the playoffs before finally besting his nemesis and moving on to become a 6-title legend. And if you were around at those times, you'll remember that the narratives were the same for Manning & Jordan as they are for Allen right now. Jim Kelly didn't start going to Super Bowls until he was in his 30's. There is so much hand-wringing about Allen in the media about "will he ever?" and all that. He's 27.

2020s Buffalo Bills are The Miami Dolphins of the 90s
Success replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was thinking how we just reversed roles w/ the Chiefs. I think we kept them out of the SB twice in the '90s. But the Dolphins are a good comp, as are the Rivers' Chargers. Great QB, good team - but there is a better QB & team, and we can't get past them.
