How long does it take an NFL head coach to reach his 1st Super Bowl?
Success replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
How to make a hot fudge sundae: Put vanilla ice cream into a bowl. The preference here is a top-tier brand. Don't get lazy or cheap on this vital component. Pour hot fudge over the ice cream. Whipped cream & cherry are optional. Any sort of nut is for the adventurous among us. Enjoy. -
That's a lazy comment. NFL history has plenty of examples of patience w/ a coach paying off.

It's one of those "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" things. A team could spend its entire existence looking for an elite coach. But there just aren't a lot of those. McDermott is a really good coach, and has proven that. This team wins a lot. He always gameplans well, and makes good adjustments. It would be an enormous gamble switching coaches now, or in the next few years. McDermott has what it takes to win it all.

McDermott is not a great coach. But there are about 5 coaches in the last 2 decades I would put under that category. He is a GOOD coach. That really isn't disputable. He & Beane together came in when we were in the throes of the longest drought in the NFL, and turned us into a TOP CONTENDER. I never expected us to win at KC in '20 - especially with 4 of our top 5 receivers playing hurt. 13 seconds was poor coaching - for 13 seconds. Last year, this team was just drained. I don't see how anyone can judge anything against that Cincy game. Fans in Philly couldn't wait to run Reid out of town, and now HE is considered the best. McDermott is a good coach, and he'll get this team to the promised land. I have no doubt.

They remind me so much of the drought-era Bills now. It's wonderful.

DVOA has Bills the #1 projected team
Success replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Objectively, this is the best Bills team since the '90s - and possibly better than those teams. It's the 1st time in the JA era that I feel like there is real balance on the team. There really aren't any weak units. The O-line should be vastly improved w/ the acquisitions - and I'm incredibly excited to see us FINALLY have a run game that doesn't rely on Allen. I don't think some fans here understand yet how good Harris can be when healthy. I'm stoked. Especially since the unanimous opinion in the rest of NFL fandom & punditry is that the Bills are "taking a step back" this year. -
Eat Crow: Your most embarrassing Bills opinions
Success replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, so many. It's a little depressing going back through them. Some highlights: Todd Collins would seamlessly continue the Bills' reign over the AFC. Trent Edwards & Tuel were both hidden gems and steals for the Bills. Orton was exactly the QB we needed. I loved the trade for Watkins. I thought Whaley was a visionary. Loved the "gutty" Maybin pick. They just go on & on. It's not easy being a homer. -
This is pretty universally true. We were league darlings for a couple of years there. Everything sort of turned last year, and now it's popular to slam the Bills, or say they're window is closing or closed. I blame Romo & the "Mr. January" stuff.
-
I like this vision - but not entirely. If we're down 31-14, it would be such a brutal experience up to that point. Anyone have a dream where we roll to a 49-0 win?

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
Success replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Judon knows Belichick at this point. I seriously doubt he would post this if he knew anything, ahead of any official announcement or contract being finalized. -
I've seen this sentiment around. The Bills are taking a step back. Miami & NY are poised to challenge for the division. If you read any stuff from New England, pundits and fans there think that they're "sneaky good" and that everyone is underestimating them. It actually wouldn't shock me to see the Bills wrap up the division by mid-November. This is the best Bills team in my lifetime.

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
Success replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is some chatter out there that he might sign w/ the Pats today. This wouldn't make me happy. I don't think it would make them a contender necessarily - but they'd be a tougher out, for sure. -
The team we have going into 2023 is significantly better than last year's team, imo. I think for the 1st time in the JA era, we'll have an o-line that doesn't have a weak link or 2. Also for the 1st time, we'll have an actual running game - that doesn't involve Allen. Harris is going to change the dynamic of this offense. We also have an improved pass rush, imo, and will be tougher & more physical overall. Tougher schedule this year (on paper) - but I love this team heading into the season. I feel as optimistic as I ever have.

Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?
Success replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Or, would Doug Collins be remembered as a 6-time champion as HC if they had just kept him on. -
It's not the SAME thing - but it's a cousin of the thing. It's essentially the same dynamic. And as someone who was around for "Bickering Bills" - the feeling was the same. A promising team, multiple disappointments...and now this? And then SB after SB after SB. I don't know if that's really the formula. But it definitely feels familiar.

I would have been bummed if the Chiefs got Harris, or the Bengals got Kincaid. I know what you're saying to an extent. But as much as I hate them, I have to look at the blueprint the Patriots set. They never would have even considered a Diggs/Hopkins kind of combo of elite receivers. They only invested in an elite receiver once, and that didn't pan out for them. It was more about the trenches, and building more physical teams. I don't think we need to do the exact same things, but I've never been on the Hopkins train.
-
Gotta disagree. We upgraded on the O-line, at RB, and at WR. People are sleeping on Harris a bit - his issue is injuries, but when healthy, he'll be a revelation. We will finally have a running game. Obviously, Kincaid hasn't played yet - but he has the skills to create real match-up problems for defenses, in a way that we have not been able to do. Harty & Sherfield both address weaknesses we had in our WR corps last year - both have great hands, are physical and get good YAC. Shakir and Cook are both coming into a pivotal 2nd year after showing a lot of promise as the season went on last year. If Davis can rebound, and Brown can take that next step - this will be the best offense we have had in the JA era, and possibly in Buffalo's history.
-
I get that, and I don't want to be hyper-critical about a single comment. But it has definitely made the story take off nationally. Belichick had the same question today about Lawrence Guy's absence, and all he said was that the reporters would have to talk to Guy. It was still a story, but he handles that stuff a bit better (imo).
