A few thoughts about the Jets Game in no particular order
yungmack replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you started this, I'll bet you thought it would be fun picking it up from Bill. 9, 10, maybe even an 11 win season. But at some point, maybe as soon as week 2, it probably dawned on you that it was going to be a slog. Or worse. Yet you hung on in there, and for that I honor you. You did a great job when many of the rest of us might have chosen an oarless canoe in the Niagara River. Hope you bring it back next year. Hapy New YeR, Virgil. -
Wha?

Time to move on to who? Who've you got in mind?

Sully: Bills' bozos leave Lynn to twist on his own
yungmack replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't have the will to read thru 18 pages discussing a Sully opinion(!) so if this has been covered I apologize. So here's my thought, that putting Lynn out there on his lonesome might be part of the audition. -
Ah, sanity.

Every time I see Marv and Wade's names linked, I get depressed thinking about what might have been if Wade was the DC during those SB years.

Tarring the entire media when what you are citing is the well-known execrable TBN's Bills "reporters" crew of out of touch, lazy, navel-gazing incompetents. In the very brief time Dunne covered the team, he did more interesting, factual reporting than Sully, Bucky or the rest have done in their entire tenures. He actually seemed to befriend players and got to know them personally which is why he could break news. The rest of those guys, with years in town and covering the Bills year round, never break a story. It is always LaConfora, Schefter or some other out of towner who has more pertinent info than them. Then, lazy asses that they are, they recycle those stories and call it a day, pretending they are real "journalists."

Certainly not claiming this is a SB team, just pointing out that the poster's assumption that the Bills 8-8 record is because of Taylor is just plain wrong. BTB, thirty teams fail to make the SB. I don't regard all of them as mediocre flops. And even if the Bills only made it to the wildcard round, there to be defeated, you know many around here would take that as a sign of the arrow pointing in the right direction. And Rex would still have a job.
-
With even a top half of the league D, this year's record would have been at least 10 wins. Would that be enough success for you to want Taylor back? If not, what would it take for you and others of your ilk to finally realize that, at least this year, the problem was the D, not the O? Not claiming he'll ever attain "greatness," just asking for reality-based judgments.

There's this trope going around that Whaley wants a toady coach who doesn't threaten his job security instead of a top level one who might. For people mindlessly promoting this idiocy, let me point out that the only way DW remains GM is by making the Bills into a highly successful team. It is in his own best interest to employ the very best coach he can. Anyone who truly believes he is looking for some mediocre, "just happy for the job," guy as an employment hedge seriously misreads the metrics DW will be judged by.

Option at Defensive Coordinator: a familiar face!
yungmack replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was Ralph, this is The Pegs. It is a different team. And Wade is still connected to the area. Doesn't he still own a house here? -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
yungmack replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the players are "too stupid" to effectively execute the D scheme, then the really stupid one is the HC who refuse to change to a scheme that they can effectively execute. To continue imposing a system that doesn't work - for two years, with no indication it was ever going to change - is itself grounds to fire "the genius." -
What a story that was. His position on the guy who hit him says more about him than all the other comments. Wow. It also gives me a new perspective on Haley.

Another LaCanfora rumour RE: Tyrod
yungmack replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please consider the source before wasting precious time on this topic. It's freakin' "I've got a source" LaCanfora for heaven's sake. -
How about a little perspective around here. Whaley has had input on TWO head coaches, not three, and no one around here knows for certain just how much authority he actually had. The first one, Marrone, was secure with management, seemed to be on a successful path and was in no danger of being fired. But he had an inflated opinion of himself and QUIT. Had he stuck with the team, who knows but things might be much better and we would all be praising the very FO that is being criticised as they prepare for the playoffs. As to the second one, Ryan, he was failing epically in the area in which he was supposed to be supreme and showed no signs that he was going to change a single thing about his outdated scheme. I thought he should have been fired after year one as it was clear he was over his head. So, of the two coaches he has had, one looked to be a good hire, sabotaged by his own ego, and the second one, hired in a rush, was a flop and he bears some responsibility for that fail. However, once it was clear Rex was a mistake, he was let go which Whaley likely knew would make him the target of criticism. Still he did it, because it was the right thing to do in spite of what the zhadrules in the media are saying.

Bills are a joke of an organization

The question remains, Who in the draft is an improvement?

I Was Right: (Or FC for Czar: The Topic)
yungmack replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What the hell is a "football czar"? Is he a guy whispering in the owner's ear with criticism of the GM or HC? Does he have final say on drafts, FAs, coaches, game day personnel, play calling? If so, then he sounds like a hybrid owner/GM/HC so why not just replace all of those people with the "czar"? The owner can check in every few years and see how much his investment has appreciated. And if he''s not doing those things, then why have him in the first place? Sounds more like a position that exists because an owner doesn't trust his staff. It is just another level of bureaucracy that makes everything more confused. -
Roth: By firing Ryan, Pegulas got it half right and wrong
yungmack replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is your evidence for this assertion? Has any potential candidate said so? And why would you think this is a fact? Unlike virtually all of the local media and most of the national talking heads. We have our fair share of knuckleheads around here but we also have a very large number of intelligent posters as well. I like that I can actually learn around here. -

Roth: By firing Ryan, Pegulas got it half right and wrong
yungmack replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was going to respond but you hit it on the head. I don't know how anyone can look at the 180 Whaley and his staff did in changing from a focus on the O to the D to give Rex the players he said he needed (and getting rid of picks they'd made because they didn't fit w/Rex), and doing it without complaint, can somehow blame him for the mess Rex made. -
At his initial presser, he proclaimed this be his last coaching job. It made me think he was already kicking back into a sort of semi-retirement. Then he went out and started hiring what seemed like every guy who'd worked for him. It felt like he was "feather-bedding, trying to get them all a final payday. It left me with the impression that makin' bank and having fun on the Pegula's dime was more important than making the Bills elite.
