Doug Whaley - The Tim Graham Feature Story
yungmack replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No he's not. And who's responsible for using those draft assets? -
The choice of infantry was freely made (you could have chosen a cushier career with the the Navy or AF) and you were "contractually" obligated to go wherever your "boss" sent you. For this you received regular pay, bonuses, clothing, food, shelter, medical care for you and your family, likely a pension, lifetime free medical care, special veteran benefits for education and home purchase, etc. Is the NCAA offering anything remotely like this to its "troops"? If not, then these kids have to make free market capitalist decisions for what is best for them, not what is best for the leeches feeding off them. As an aside, coming out of school in the 60s, with the draft in full swing, I instead chose the Marine Corps. A cousin chose the Air Force. I got to pull triggers and blow shite up, he got a college degree in computer science then made millions. I think his worst day in the service was when the AC went out on his air base. You and I share much different memories I think.

They would both be playing meaningless games in marginal bowls that exist primarily to make piles of money for the NCAA and ESPN. Maybe they'd have played if the so-called national championship was at stake, or if the profiteers opened their purses and covered them with enough insurance to indemnfy them against catastrophic financial loss such as happened to Jalen Smith.

Keep Rex, Fire Whaley....... by a 36 Year Bills Fan
yungmack replied to coldstorage5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Consider the source of this ongoing falsehood: it is the same people who are constantly foaming at the mouth to get rid of Whaley "because he sucks at his job." A reason they can't appreciate his way-above-average performance might be they can't even do simple third grade arithmetic. If they can't do something as easy as that, why would anyone take their Whaley criticism seriously? -
If you add up his entire head coaching career, he's the living, breathing definition of mediocre. In 2010, the Jets won 11 regular season games, the most in his career. Other than that, he's won 9 once, 8 three times, 6 once and 4 once. This year he will finish between 7 and 9. History says it will be 8, which is his average over the previous 7 years. As to keeping him around for another year, he simply doesn't pass "the eye test," especially in regards to defense, his supposed area of "genius." If that's satisfying to Bills fans, then keep him. But if you'd like to see a return to the glory years, I don't believe that will ever happen with this guy. To accommodate Rex. Ross didn't fit the "genius" scheme.

And if Clay hadn't slipped, he'd have stepped towards the ball and the pass would have gone unremarked.
-
Watch Rex really close. I think he has been already told.

Who are these "rotten apples"? -
At the moment, the Bills have two QBs they drafted and the 3rd is the equivalent of a draft pick in that he wasn't a starter, much less a star, like Manning or others. He was something of shot in the dark like a draft pick. I think this pretty much undermines the false "fact" that the Bills under Whaley don't expend picks on QBs. Whaley's only had the reins for a couple of years; it isn't right to blame him for the previous 50 years.

What organizational chaos are you talking about? Everything seems smooth, with everyone on the same page with a single exception, and that would be the head coach. There's nary a sign of disharmony otherwise. There's more disharmony around here on any single thread than in a year at OBD.

About a quarter done & there aren't even 5 full pages here. The fans are in off season mode methinks. -
Can anyone come up with an argument for keeping Russ?
yungmack replied to BillsGuru4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of careless with that "everyone," aren't you? Oh, and regarding him as "useless" shows a depth of ignorance about his job and how well he does it. He ain't the QB, he ain't the HC, he ain't the GM, he's the prez, running the business end of things which, by all reports, is just fine financially. He serves at the pleasure of the team owners who so far appear delighted with him. And should he want to fire the HC or the GM, I don't think he can do that without consultation and approval of said owners. In any case, he won't be consulting you or any of us around here. While we're at it, what do you mean when you say "he actually hurts us"? Has he been going around to your house and pounding you in the nose? Or by "us" do you mean the Bills? In which case, unless you're a Pegula, you've somehow gotten yourself confused: You are a fan, not an owner. Not even the wretched Rex is hurting you, he's just doing a lousy job with an asset in which you have not a penny at stake. You can walk away at anytime and no one will notice. We all can because...we're just fans, nothing more. But you won't and I won't because...we're Bills fans, conditioned to this level of suckitude, used to having our souls repeatedly feed through the cosmic wood chipper, habituated to being out of it by the end of one September after another. Other than a couple of brief moments in time, that's the way it's always been. That's why, even if Brandon was as lousy as you think he is, you should embrace him because he fits in perfectly with the long and losing tradition of our chosen Vale of Tears. So wipe away those tears and soldier on; the off-season is close at hand. -
Adam Schefter: Rex Ryan to be fired end of season
yungmack replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All joking aside, why is it that local media seems to never break any Bills news of this sort. It's always the national guys. Weird. -
This is the best post of the day....

La Canfora on FAN 590: Bills Situation "Toxic"

There's a reason Polian's tenures have always ended in a less than pleasant manner. -
La Canfora on FAN 590: Bills Situation "Toxic"
yungmack replied to Doutz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He just might be making it up, all of it. It doesn't take "insider knowledge" to just look at the Bills situation and say, "Rex is on the hot seat." And a few minutes reading at TSW would give him "insider" info galore about the "toxic internal situation." Who's going to demand he reveal his "sources"? So he's free to say whatever he wants and claim it's from an "insider." -
In what order do these four need to go:
yungmack replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here are my 4 choices of who has to go: 1 - People who constantly go monomaniacal on Brandon as the root of all that's wrong with the Bills; 2 - People who constantly go monomaniacal on Whaley as a failed GM for "never" drafting anyone good, and for "always" trading away our top picks; 3 - People who believe Rex is a good HC and deserves another shot; 4 - People who wildly support Chad Kelly for Bills QB. -
The best offensive player in '17 draft, please Bills

Our WRs are pretty bad? Well, okay, if you say ao. -
Interesting suggestion. I still favor Shaw from Stanford but I think Smith does deserve a second look.

CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
yungmack replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One reason the Pegs might be reluctant to throw Rex into a snowbank is the message that sends to potential HC hires. Getting a top flight HC into Buffalo is always difficult and firing him now would likely be seen as intemperate and a sign that ownership is unstable. I suspect the Pegs figure it's best to let the season play out before making a move, hoping, I'd bet, that Rex royally screws it up. Then they can dismiss him "reluctantly and with great regret that things just didn't work out." -
I believe Rex figured that, short of a miracle, he was not going to turn the Bills into a seriously good team (he might know himself better than we think) and so he took the opportunity to get every guy who was loyal to him on the gravy train for a year, two or as long as the scam lasted.

And his great QB threw FIVE Ints. this weekend.

Russ Brandon Attends Monday Morning Football Meetings
yungmack replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a matter of actual real fact they have not neglected the QB position. There are 3 QBs on the roster right now who they drafted or went after in FA. They drafted Losman, Tuel, Checkdown and a couple of others. Three or four years ago they had what seemed like every out of work QB in the country at some time or other. They seem to have failed regularly but they sure as hell haven't neglected the position. There is a difference.
