The only reason why I do not see EJ as nearly as bad of a bust as many other bad picks is because there were no other quarterbacks that year whatsoever that would have fared any better. The bigger fault of the franchise was ignoring the need for add any significant quarterback and counting on Fitz to not only be a franchise QB but to never get injured. Had Buffalo signed a veteran, drafted Wilson or even someone like a Dalton during the previous three years, the need to pick a quarterback that year would never have arose.

Bills sign WR Lance Lenoir, cut WR Tre Walker
dgrochester55 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking super bowl this year, but with Tre Walker gone, I am now having my doubts. -
As great as Allen was last year, Mahomes is the better QB until The Bills can win a Super Bowl and start consistently beating the Chiefs. With that being said, I would not make the trade. Both players are perfect fits for their team and culture and I am not sure that either one would improve in their new scenario.

Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
dgrochester55 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
B I like the positions that they picked. The overall theme seems to be developmental players with high upside which means good long term potential but also a good chance for minimal impact from the picks in 2021. Maybe not the most exciting, but it beats the drought years before Pegula took over when the strategy seemed to be reaching for a player in a specific position way too early because it was a position of desperate need that was not addressed in free agency. My favorite pick was Basham in rd 2. The only pick that did not impress me was the Spencer Brown as I felt there were better options available at the offensive line during that phase of the draft. -
What was your worst take ever?

I was a regular on a different message board at the time and he had quite the following on there. Many thought that he was the second coming of Warren Sapp -
What was your worst take ever?

In all fairness, EJ looked decent for a rookie at first with a near win over New England in week 1 and that comeback vs Carolina. Unfortunately, like many Bills QB's during the drought, early flashes of potential was always followed with a lack of improvement and/or regression. -

More recently that Sam Darnold was the sure thing franchise pick out of the 2018 qb class and that Buffalo should doing anything it takes to trade up for him. Worst all time, I felt that when Buffalo signed Brian Brohm off the packers practice squad that we just got our franchise qb of the future in what I thought was the steal of the century. This year my rankings for 1st rd qb's would be Lance, Lawrence, Wilson, Jones, Fields but based on my track record, you might be better off betting on the exact opposite. -
2021 NFL Draft Round 2 talk - Official thread

I honestly don't know a lot about the three players drafted, but I love the overall concept of improving the lines on both sides of the ball. -

This is a good thing, I do not see Jones as being that much of a threat. -
Call your shot: Who will the Bills pick in the 1st round?
dgrochester55 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will predict trading back to the 2nd, getting Harris and then using the 61st pick on the best available defensive player. I would prefer that they not pick a running back this early but would much rather have Harris than Etienne if they did go that route. -
Athletic article on JP Losman
dgrochester55 replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
JP was not a good QB but seemed to be a decent guy who gave it his best. His bombs to Lee Evans and Parrish were exciting to watch, but he could never really develop a short passing game anywhere near good enough to be a successful NFL starter. I always thought that if you combined Losmans deep passing, Edwards short passing and Fitz's determination and hustle that you could have had a franchise QB. Glad to see that he has made a career in the coaching field and hope that he does well. Stories like this are a good lesson that a person can recover and succeed in another field if they have a major failure or set back in their life or career. -
Bills players you disliked
dgrochester55 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybin, Benjamin, Mario Williams after it was clear that he was mailing it in. I can tolerate a bad player if they are trying and have a good attitude, but as soon as it is clear that they are mailing it in and do not want to be there, that is when I feel that the sooner they are gone the better. -
Bills fact people might not now

In a parallel universe somewhere, Buffalo drafted Gronkowski and Russell Wilson instead of Torrell Troup and TJ Graham -
Thats going to make their offense dangerous for the two or three games in a given year that he is not injured.

Who had the Biggest One Year Wonder Season?
dgrochester55 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For Buffalo. Not quite a one year wonder, but I remember in 99 and 2000 when Linebacker Sam Cowart was seen as one of the best young linebackers in the league. He had a devastating ACL injury and was never anywhere near the same after. Otherwise, Ickey Woods, Derek Anderson and Peyton Hillis stand out the most. -
Thanks and Farewell to Matt Barkley
dgrochester55 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will always appreciate him giving 2018 Bills fans a much needed breath of fresh air and torching the Jets after weeks of painful experiences with Nate Peterman and Derek Anderson. I think that some fans overrated his capability due to being starved for an NFL capable QB but during the Patriots game in 2019, a more realistic performance was given based on his career. If we had a situation where he had to play for a few games, I feel like you would have had one Jets performance for every three or four patriots performances. An upgrade was needed. Barkley was a great guy and a good teammate. I hope that he lands somewhere and that coaching is in his future. -
Exactly, If Buffalo would be 5-1 in a given stretch with Allen, I could see them being 3-3 or 4-2 under Trubisky in that same stretch. I did not have confidence in Buffalo beating too many people under Barkley or Fromm
-
Keep in mind that up to very recently, a signing of this caliber would have been handled as competition to be the starting qb. Now he is strictly a backup and a huge upgrade over Barkley. I feel like he could do well enough with the offense around him to fill in for a few games if Allen was to get hurt for awhile.

I was not impressed with Addison's performance overall in his first year here, but I am impressed with this move on his part. The fact that so many veterans are willing to take cuts shows that the culture has changed here and gives me more hope for the next few years.

Should NFL Adopt 3rd Place Game Week Before Super Bowl?
dgrochester55 replied to Dr.Sack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, lets say that this does happen and Josh Allen gets a torn ACL or achilles injury during the game. Allen is out for part or all of next year, Buffalo is not nearly as competitive with Barkley or Fromm in 2021 and we still got destroyed by the Chiefs and missed out on a super bowl last week. No, 100 percent no. Not worth the risk and do not feel like the players from either losing team would be up for it. I would much rather enjoy 2020's 13-3 season with two playoff wins for what it was and begin the hope for a super bowl next year. -
Brown- should they cut him?
dgrochester55 replied to Aussie Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brown had a career year in 2019 and was injured most of this year. No reason to cut him unless you have to clear salary cap space. -
Running back and tight end would be nice, but the defensive front seven is by far the biggest priority. No one can consistently rush the qb besides hughes and the linebackers are not good enough against the top teams. An elite pass rusher and a linebacker to can cover the top tight ends are the top two priorities.

I'm heartbroken. Words of comfort?
dgrochester55 replied to Rockee96's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo has turned around quickly under McDermott, but they have more work to do. If anyone in the summer said the Buffalo with this schedule would be 13-3 and a championship with Allen being in the running for mvp, I would have been very excited. I am in a down mood tonight, but in the long run, i will see this season as a positive and exciting one. The front seven on the defense needs to be addressed. The players who have replaced players such as Lawson, Phillips, Louteuoi did not get it done this year. The front seven needs a player that does for the defense what Diggs did for the offense this year.
