Why doesn't McDermott call the Defensive plays full time??
LABILLBACKER replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because he's the one hiring the incompetent DC's. He should've been calling our defense since 2018. Let him take the responsibility if he's such a defensive guru. -
Yup, Magic got fed up with Westhead and his "slow down" offense and Buss correctly fired him. And it ended up being the perfect decision. There's more going on right now then the effects of a possible mild concussion. I think Beane is the one experiencing a mild concussion based on his reluctance to aggressively search for a WR1.

Completely agree...Josh has been the polite, patient team player long enough. The fact that this organization (McB) blatantly ignores helping him find weapons is all the more reason he should be infuriated. We have one of the worst defenses and WR rooms in the NFL. And this ridiculous and unsustainable narrative that Superman is supposed to rise above all this negligence is embarrassing.

I bet she runs more man press 🤓

Too bad there isn't a rating system on NFL scouting depts. I'd bet the Bills are near the bottom. McD was the one who encouraged Terry to hire Beane. McD was also the one who hired Frazier, Smiley, Dorsey, Brady, Babich....maybe Sean needs to look in the mirror and do some reflection on his choices. You're only as good as the assistants you surround yourself with. To say he (they) haven't had coaching issues outside of 13s is disingenuous. This is a failure of both coaching and player personnel.

Did we already miss the window with Josh
LABILLBACKER replied to BritishBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately that would require us to have scouts capable of insight and a knack for finding diamonds in the rough. We don't have those scouts on payroll anymore. We've hit on Walker out of 16 picks. That’s embarrassing... -
As @Ray Stonada perfectly said, there is a wierd arrogance going on. Protect the scheme at all costs with your lives. Smart coaches are flexible and base their gameplan based on their opponents flaws. That’s what Belichick did for years. Their philosophy is to continue on with the scheme at all costs, even if it ignores a couple players playing well. Stubborn arrogance is just one of many flaws in the staff.

Did we already miss the window with Josh
LABILLBACKER replied to BritishBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
You're right, change for the sake of change isn't always the solution. But we knew as a fanbase after 13s that McD had issues. So from 2021 to present we've lost opportunities to hire coaches like Peyton, Harbaugh, Johnson, Vrabel and yes even Belichick. Pegula is not an idiot. He saw the flaws in Sean & Brandon yet choose to ignore them for the sake of continuity. Continuity is great until it gets stale. -
Can everyone just take a freakin breath?

We don't have the dbs to play man press. Trust me, I wish we did. But McD was obsessed with his zone scheme. We'd have to replace most of our dbs. -
Random talking head says something about the Bills
LABILLBACKER replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wish some of our uber optimistic fans would wake up and realize how close this team is to 3-3 or 2-4. Both our offense and defense are in trouble right now. We we're only up 21-19 half way thru the 4th Q with New Orleans. It took a 15 pt miracle to beat Lamar. Vrabel set the template to pressure Josh and bracket our weak ass wrs. Beane has failed this team and fanbase. But most importantly he's failed Josh. And let's not forget who brought Beane to this organization.....🙌🙌🙌 -
Did we already miss the window with Josh
LABILLBACKER replied to BritishBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think if we just stayed put and drafted Jefferson instead of trading for Diggs, we would've won 1 SB (2021). But considering how pathetic our playoff defense has been, maybe not? But yes we've officially wasted Josh's 1st window. This was his younger more athletic version. He'll be 30 in May so realistically I think Josh's 2nd and final window will last till about 36-37. This version won't be hurdling lbs or running 40 yards over dbs. He will require weapons and a clean pocket. 2 things the current staff is obviously incapable of supplying. -
Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
LABILLBACKER replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Based on the team and corresponding player, Olave would be just what the doctor ordered for Josh. And yes it will cost us a 1st and 4th. -

LABILLBACKER replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree Beane has done a terrible job buying groceries for Josh. But let's not forget who hired Beane....and Dorsey....and Babich....and Brady. I'm so tired of McD trying to always come out of these situations unscathed. Both these guys are equally culpable. They both made the concerted decision to give Josh absolute garbage weapons over the last few seasons. Meanwhile they emphasized drafting for the most part failed defensive players. The locker room does appear fractured. Stay tuned..... -

They're both worthless and the mediocrity of their career stats confirm it. We overpaid on both of them. -

@Virgil props for an excellent post. I agree with everything. It’s really scary how easily we could be 3-3 or 2-4. Josh's body language says it all. Beane and McDermott have failed him in so many ways. 8+ years of failing to draft a #1 WR. Besides Walker, not one impactful player out of 16 players drafted these past 2 seasons. A list of failed FA's a mile long. I've been eviscerated on this board for criticizing Sean. Great human being but a weak coach. Maybe by some miracle he gets this team a Lombardi. But my money is on.... it's not happening. -
You're not wrong. I'm trying desperately envisioning a scenario where Hoecht and Hairston jump in and save the day. Or maybe by some miracle we go after Olave. But I just can't see a path to improvement beyond the weekly incessant injuries.

We did hold them to 3 pts in the 2nd half and if Shaq picks that ball it probably would've been 0. Babich is likely gone and Sean will call the defense the rest of the season.
