  1. If you tear down the system and get rid of all the police, anarchy will ensue The east side of Buffalo, where I am all the time, would turn into a cluster**** I would not want to be around that. On the flip side, there needs to be better trained police officers, and the system needs to have a lot of changes on a national scale.. militarization of the police force is not what is needed
  2. We have already had a civil conversation and he answered my question
  3. Removing Confederate statues and flags from public areas is a start Thank you for the clear answer
  4. When something's set in stone it doesn't always have to be said Of course I know there's no monuments of Nazi Germany I also know that the United States is made up of a lot of regions, and certain southern populations still hold on to some things they shouldn't But the vast majority of Americans even white Americans, would never stand for building Confederate statues in our northern cities, or parading them around like heroes Most recognize the stain it left on the country
  5. I can already see where this is going...
  6. I'm a northerner, I have no Southerners in my family, no former slave owners, I don't fly a Confederate flag, I stick up for all races, So I've never done anything of what you say, and I don't know anybody that has. I live in the most diverse part of buffalo, we have every race and ethnicity and I love everybody Seriously I'm asking you a question. What do we need to move forward then?
  7. I have a history degree, it's my passion And yes I totally get what happened after slavery. I'm not ignorant to it and it's terrible, but you specifically talked about slave owners laughing about beating slaves And I say the vast majority because not even close to 50% of white families owned slaves in america. In the South about 35% of white families were slave owners. Some states were higher like 45 50%, but averaged it's about 35% Then when you include the northern states which abolished slavery early, the percentage of total White's all across America who owned slaves is under 15%. The free states had double the population then you add all the millions and millions of whites who immigrated here post-slavery. And you get tons of white families that have never owned slaves. I'm a second-generation American , I didn't even have family here in 1865 And in no way am I trying to stick up for slavery and the antebellum South, it's gross sick and an abomination
  8. Of course it's not the same, and it's appalling But that hasn't happened in over 150 years. And we will never move past it if we never move forward. The vast majority of white Americans today did not have descendants that were slave owners We will be stuck in 1865 if we never move forward as a society. We take two steps Forward and 3 steps back all the time. And it just keeps us spinning in circles
  9. Why are you also taking things out of context? He never said only white people should have guns He said only elite white people should have silencers. Meaning he was also classing out 97% of the white race because 97% of whites arent elitists
  10. Yes there are. Carbone's pizza in Lovejoy had its Windows smashed the other night Along with some other ruckus An old man was shoved down by Buffalo police today during a protest and hit his head on the ground https://mobile.twitter.com/DavidBegnaud/status/1268716877355810818 Disturbing video
  11. minorities of all races also make racist jokes about white people and other people in private Don't just make it out to be a white person thing
  12. When you can have civil conversations, you don't need to run from important things I completely agree, this has always been my home so I see it I got a lot of flak in the new stadium thread, because I specifically said poor residents of the East and West sides can't afford an increase in taxes to pay for a new stadium There are lots of people in the city doing good, and there are lots doing bad. As I said it's mainly the east and west side that's in hard poverty, and it's been that way for a long long time, it's sad But the city is definitely safer than it was in 1992 and that's progress at least. The days of Sly green running wild on the east side are no more for the most part. Those days are gone
  13. Yes I saw that too. Quite interesting, though it probably says something about the Democrat opponent he ran against last time Probably super unqualified
  14. Yes it's a very small portion. Very small
  15. Jacobs seat is mainly Hamburg , orchard Park, Tonawanda, with only a small section of Buffalo Mainely southtown not the city Same with Mike R, more inner suburbs
  16. I've touched on this before so I don't want to get to in depth and hijack this thread The city is not one area. Buffalo is made up of the east side, the Westside, North buffalo , South Buffalo, downtown, Lovejoy, kaisertown, Elmwood village, Allentown etc All these neighborhoods are pretty much separate. Some are doing better than the others North Buffalo, Elmwood village, downtown, Allentown all have been revitalized or in the process of. It is gorgeous and a nice place to raise your family The east side and west side are still projects for the most part, and needs serious revitalization. That is where most of the poverty and child poverty and sadness is. On the east and west side of Buffalo, the Southside also has a poverty problem
  17. I've lived here my whole life and never left. I love my community and am a big part of it The city may not be as liberal as Portland Oregon, but as a whole the city is very liberal The suburbs are more conservative Yes there's been more money coming in, and the cities turning around, but that is because of over twenty years of reform Not necessarily a political thing. It was a revitalization thing that everybody got on board with, Left Right black white orange A conservative has no chance of winning an election in the city today
  18. Western New York is conservative, I don't think anybody would dispute that But actual City people don't consider Amherst Buffalo or lancaster, or OP Buffalo All those people who live in those burbs say they're from Buffalo, but the people that live in the city wouldn't call a Amherst native a buffalonian They think they are privileged suburbanites , not going through the struggle like the City slickers Having a house in the city and burbs, this is something I have seen and learned over the years All the suburbanites call themselves buffalonians, while the people in the city don't think of them as Buffalo
  19. Well I'm sure you know that's sarcasm never travels well over the internet in type
  20. Okay then . . . somebody makes one off-the-cuff remark and you want them ostracized from society.. even if it was wrong.. people make mistakes We release murderers in this society Got it
  21. There are conservative people in Buffalo, but the city is not a low-key conservative place anymore We haven't had a Republican mayor in over 50 years. We are a liberal City now The suburbs are different
  22. Says who? Because Tre retweeted one tweet? This is why social media is stupid anyways, nothing good can come of it And last I remembered Lorenzo Alexander didn't accept Josh Allens apology in the beginning either
  23. Listen, it's obviously not right But neither is some scumbag putting out private text conversations. It's not like he said I hate all people of color. The whole "make it for elite white people like me", sounds kind of off the cuff and a bad joke People joke around and make mistakes, say things they shouldn't have, especially younger people This is why you always have to be careful what you say, because it will take you down in 2020 Josh Allen used some bad words also
  24. Exactly What twenty something year old kids says that... If this is real who the hell is fromm hanging out with
  25. I'm in love joy right now and there are dozens and dozens and dozens of kids playing basketball in the streets playing catch with a football, riding bikes, etc
