Not sure if I voiced it anywhere, but thought the same. Everyone was hung up on bad footwork, but all he did was ball out and have insane accuracy/placement regardless of where his feet were.
I recall loving Wilson as a prospect, getting excited when the Bills traded up in the 3rd round, and then wondering why we took a track guy with a 7th round grade.
I would be ecstatic if this very unrealistic offense-heavy Fanspeak mock draft happened...
27: R1 P27 WR Zay Flowers - Boston College
59: R2 P28 LB Jack Campbell - Iowa
91: R3 P28 G Steve Avila - TCU
130: R4 P28 TE Sam LaPorta - Iowa
137: R5 P2 RB Israel Abanikanda - Pittsburgh
205: R6 P28 QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson - UCLA
...but it won't.
Not sure if I’d rather give Jones someone who is a good separator or someone who is a contested catch guy. To be fair I think Flowers can do a bit of both. Hope he does not go to NE* as I think he’s very talented.
27: R1 P27 OT Paris Johnson Jr. - Ohio State
59: R2 P28 C Steve Avila - TCU
91: R3 P28 S Ji'Ayir Brown - Penn State
130: R4 P28 RB Roschon Johnson - Texas
137: R5 P2 LB Ivan Pace Jr. - Cincinnati
205: R6 P28 WR Tre Tucker - Cincinnati
I disagree in that I think there are a few guys in round 1 who can be WR2/3 right away, which is all we really need - another top 3 WR who is ideally a great WR2.
I agree with you in that I bet Beane sits to see if any of his guys make it to 27 before pulling the trigger on a Hopkins trade.
I think one of the more interesting debates is whether we should be prioritizing targeting competition for Brown at RT or a guy who can come in to compete/start at OG with the long term plan being Morse’s heir apparent at C.
Probably need to take a swing at each at some point this draft.
Fanspeak:
27: R1 P27 WR Zay Flowers - Boston College
59: R2 P28 C Steve Avila - TCU
91: R3 P28 S Ji'Ayir Brown - Penn State
130: R4 P28 LB Ivan Pace Jr. - Cincinnati
137: R5 P2 TE Zack Kuntz - Old Dominion
205: R6 P28 OT Richard Gouraige - Florida
My Mock:
27: Jordan Addison - WR - USC
59: Steve Avila - OG - TCU
91: Noah Sewell - LB - Oregon
130: Luke Musgrave - TE - Oregon State
137: Jartavius Martin - S - Illinois
205: Shakel Brown - DT - Troy
Tear it apart.
The question then becomes… Klein or deKlein?
I think he’s a good LB3/4 and like him as a player generally.
Don’t want him starting or playing significant snaps especially in passing situations.
I expect Allen, Knox, Diggs, Dawkins, Morse, Miller, Rousseau, Milano, White, Poyer, Hyde, and Bass to all play for Buffalo well into their 40s, so really no worries anytime soon.
I’d be cool with Addison, JSN, or Flowers at 27 if they fall. One of those 3, Diggs, and Davis is a solid top 3, especially with Shakir, Harty, and Sherfield fighting for snaps. You also never know who might be cut between now and September.
I’m not against further OL help high in the draft. But if we haven’t gotten Hopkins then adding a WR on a possibly 5 year cost-controlled deal sounds like the better route. Flowers to me is just the most dynamic option.
