Week 17, Falcones v. Bills, 01/02/22 - GAME BALLS

Motor Oliver Edmunds Phillips -
I'm not bent. I said they were the best defense in the league. You said they played a bunch of bad QBs and that Tampa was better. I showed you a bunch of the QBs Tampa has played and they're not significantly better, and might actually be worse, than the ones the Bills have faced.
-
Sure I agree, but when I say they are the best defense in the league and you bring up the QBs they've faced, the implication is that the quality and/or amount of bad QBs is outsize relative to what other top defenses might otherwise reasonably face. That's largely what I am arguing against, both your characterization of Wentz as lower tier (he isn't this year, clearly) and that the defense is a product of the competition beyond what other defenses you brought up...I mean, you've seen the Bucs schedule of quarterbacks they've faced, right? Is it that much more impressive than the Bills? Ryan 2x, Mac Jones like us, Tua like us, Hurts, Fields, Simien like us, Heinicke like us, Daniel Jones, Darnold, Wentz like us...
-
Wentz isn't a lower tier QB though, Brady did well for sure but the defense held Mahomes to 30pts below his average rating and Tannehill to 15pts below his. Mac Jones was being touted as the next big thing until they completely dominated him minus White. They are a top unit...I don't think it's arguable tbh
-
Yes, I think you are largely right about why fans don't appreciate the defense but they have to realize that is by design. You are not going to be as physically imposing in base nickel, and McDermott values speed to the ball and range over ability to physically dominate 1v1 (thinking Poyer and Hyde vs players like Baker in ARI or Mathieu, Edmunds vs Wagner etc). I mean when you look at the roster construction it's a conscious choice.

It’s the best defense in the league…3rd in turnovers, first in yards/play, third in points against…if you call that kind of dominance boring I don’t know what to tell you.

Move Tremaine Edmunds to DE next season.
GoBills808 replied to r henderson's topic in The Stadium Wall
He’s not getting moved to another position. Edmunds is literally a perfect fit for this defense in the role he’s in currently. It’s ridiculous that after three years of watching him play 1gap fundamentals to a T there are still people who question his ‘instincts’🤦♂️ Edmunds isn’t going to leave his assignment in run fits to try to make some play outside his responsibility because he’s not coached to. Nobody on the defense is. In base we are small and fast and that means unless everyone is fundamentally sound in the run game it breaks down. -
Glad he’s back

For the second straight year

Belichick’s scheme cost them big yesterday. He thought his defense could play Allen straight up vanilla quarters/cover3 zone nothing creative on the front end against a makeshift oline, same early-to-mid 2020 spy strategy that effectively takes your defender out of the play McDermott absolutely crushed Belichick yesterday

Allen leads in total yards and total TDs now?

Same Wideout initiated contact, DB maintained leverage without grabbing no foul
