The greatest team ever assembled?

There are so many times in life I want to use this quote but I just can't. People probably wonder why I smirk so much - this is one of the reasons. -
Stats that reveal how dominant we were against the Rams

0 points given up in the second half on the road. -
Today qualifies as the day after a great Bills win. I have been in a great mood all day long. As an out-of-market Bills fan the corollary to this is the day after a bad Jets loss. Listening to the over reactions and melt downs on talk radio is delicious. It's even tastier when the loss was to the Bills.

Agreed. It made me wonder whether Dorsey made all the calls or if Josh has the latitude to audible.

I'll agree with OP in that Josh should not have been exposed to hits late in the game. That bothered me. I also agree with OP that 4 turnovers and an out-of-bounds kickoff (indoors) 'won't get it done' going forward. Despite all that it was a 21 point win on the road over the defending SB champ....a team that didn't put points on the board in the second half My question to @quinnearlysghost88 is this: will shutting out a team in the second half 'get it done' for you?

Happy to report that although they only showed Ozzy for a short time my 16 year old's remark was that Ozzy has an epic rock voice - and he listens to rap. Having seen Ozzy and winced at the cracked voice many times in the early 80's perhaps the brevity of his appearance on TV was for the best.

Guess the first offensive play: run or pass?

Funny yu mention Randolph. As my friends were declaring the Mets season over I blamed Cohen for inviting Willie Randolph to Old Timers Day!

Hoo boy that series didn't start well! My friends were losing their collective %#$#% after the loss on Tuesday. Looks like Mets may have righted the ship yesterday. The fact that the Braves are on an extended hot streak isn't helping matters. I love Buck but I do think it's worth questioning whether he has played a part in some of the slumps. By and large he trots out the same lineup and players night in and night out. Alonso has looked tired for weeks now, I'd love to know how many times he's gotten a day off - or better yet two full days off (without DHing). Same goes for Lindor. One thing I admired about Bobby V was he kept his regulars and bench fresh by sitting his regulars.

In case anyone is interested I dug up a post from 2019 where I attempted to compare winning pct based on rushing yards vs. winning pct based on passing yards. The results for rushing yards weren't surprising, but the results for passing yards were. Here's a screen grab of the numbers (years 2015-2019 games).
-
I mentioned this earlier, but a few years ago I did a comparison of winning perecentage based on yards passing vs. winning percentage based on yards rushing. Wish I could find it. If I recall correctly, around 250-275 passing yards was the dividing line between winning/losing percentage. But throwing for more passing yards beyond 250-275 didn't increase winning percentage dramatically. Can't remember the dividing line for rushing yards but winning percentage increased dramatically with more rushing yards - which isn't overly profound, kind of obvious.

Sounds like you had a good time at the game, glad to hear it. My only skin in the game is my son is a soph at UMD and plays in the band. He said it was pretty hot on Saturday. On a humorous note this summer we visited UB with my younger son and the Terp got some good natured ribbing from the admissions couselor. Younger one got some good natured ribbing from admissions counselor over his Mets hoodie - until I explained that despite being from Long Island we were all Bills fans. We're headed to College Park to see Purdue next month - hope it's better than last year when we watched Iowa roll the Terps. Anyway - good luck to the Buils the rest of the way!
-
I don't think anyone is suggesting we commit to the run over the pass - just that having an effective running game is still important. I felt like last year if we needed a yard or two on the ground the only guy I had faith in to get it was Josh. I'd feel better if we had a strong enough running game to rely on our backs over Josh in more situations.
-
@Big Blitz Are you trying to draw out 300 yard passing game guy? lol I actually ran some numbers in a thread a few years ago that pretty much refuted the importance of the 300 yard game - wish I could find it. There was far more correlation between rushing yards and winning than passing yards and winning. But to @KzooMike's point not sure how to determine causation. Anyway, I completely agree with you - very difficult to win it all with a one dimensional offense.
-
Not true. There's at least one under 20 year old that thinks Ozzy playing halftime next week is cool. Told me so about 15 minutes ago.
-
Agree with both of these posts. But if we must have a halftime music show I'll take my chances with way-over-the-hill Ozzy over a lot of other choices. LAMP time - good marching bands aren't confined to college. If you have 10 minutes to kill check this out from a few years ago. Doobies, The Who, Turtles and ELP:

Do they stop selling beer at half time for night games? If so: No More Beers!

I'm not sleeping on the Braves but I like our chances against anyone. Andyeah, it would be nice to get something offensively from the catchers. One disappointment this year was Dom. The past week or so Pete has looked gassed. If Dom had played well enough to stick around he could've spelled Pete a few days and maybe he'd be fresher. The only issue I have with Ruf and Vogelbach is they don't see the field very much and that can be limiting.

Very similar to the first game of the series which I thought they lost when they only scored one in the first. Mets ended up winning 4 of their last 5 against LA and took the season series 4-3.
-
Got your wish! Have to admit that I went into this series just hoping we'd be still be ahead of the Braves when it was over. We took care of business and got an assist from the Rockies when they took one from the Braves the other night. Holding the three game lead is fantastic!

New York Yankees 2022....Aaron Judge sets AL record with HR #62

Thought this was a good read about the Dodgers in a NY paper today: https://nypost.com/2022/08/31/dodgers-long-run-of-successes-is-hard-to-comprehend/
