  1. I was just thinking about this topic over the weekend. IMO the 1990s team was objectively better and would beat the 2021 team even under the NFL's current rules. People forget just how absolutely stacked the good teams were back then, in the days before free agency. As others have noted, those teams had four HOFers and a bunch of guys who maybe weren't HOF quality but still superb. I'm thinking specifically of Biscuit and Talley, but I'm sure I'm forgetting some guys. Nate Odoms maybe? Wolford? That said, I think today's team is better relative to the rest of the NFL. It's a QB-driven league, and the gap between Allen and the median starting QB is larger than the gap between Kelly and the median 1990s-era QB. Actually, I'll just go ahead and say that Allen > Kelly IMO. This is really the thing, though. There's a high likelihood that we're living through a new golden age of Bills football. I hope everybody enjoys it because we know it won't last forever. Here's hoping to a solid decade or so of dominance.
  2. I will personally throw a parade in Beane's honor if he manages to get a 4th for Fromm. I would happily settle for a 6th, and that's probably asking for too much because everybody knows that he's going to hit waivers.
  3. This. Kumerow is ridiculously good for a sixth WR. I don't expect flawless play from somebody that deep on the depth chart, but the guy can make plays.
  4. Wait -- what? We swept the division last year.
  5. Another way to put it is that multiple NFL teams got a good, long look at a guy with a first round pedigree at the most important position in sports, and each of those teams couldn't get Rosen off their roster fast enough. They're seeing a bust.
  6. For me, I guess it was the combination of making the playoffs in 2017 and then the whole organization being willing to move heaven and earth to get a franchise QB and clear out a lot of salary cap deadwood. That was encouraging because the Bills of old would have tried to patch a hole here and there but otherwise keep the 2017 together and milk the flukey success they had for another season or two. I like that this regime had a long-range plan in mind and were willing to do a tear-down of a semi-successful roster to get there.
  7. I remember explaining to my son at the time that if we got our QB at #7, nobody would ever even remember what we gave up to get there. I have basically no recollection of what it took to trade up to that pick, and I'd definitely have to google it to piece together all the various pieces. Whatever it was, it was a bargain.
  8. Time to open up a bottle of the good stuff tonight.
  9. I was there for the Colts game -- wild atmosphere, great game, felt like the start of something very good. Whoops.
  10. I spent a few days hiking in the Rockies around Memorial Day, and of course I wore my Bills cap on the trails. I'd guess about half a dozen miscellaneous Bills fans said hi and stopped to talk about the team for a few minutes. That's indicative of a pretty good national following IMO. I mean, when was the last time you saw anybody wearing Jaguars gear unless they were literally just drafted and getting their hand shaken by Goodell?
  11. I'd rather that he play for one of the other 31 teams so we can see Allen light him up with some degree of regularity. It's just not the same when it happens in practice.
  12. I don't think I'll ever forget watching the end of the Bengals-Ravens game after they switched over from the Dolphins game. I totally cried and it was arguably the greatest sports day of my life. (The comeback was probably bigger in the grand scheme of things, but I didn't fully appreciate it at the time the same way I did with breaking the drought).
  13. LOL. Truer words have never been spoken. I feel like this game write-up, with just a few changes, could be swapped in for like a dozen other drought games.
  14. I'm under no illusions about Trubisky's ability to play QB in the NFL -- he's a quality backup and below-average starter. If I were a Bears fan, I would probably be as irritated at Trubisky as we all were at Rob Johnson, JP Losman, and EJ Manuel. Those guys cost all cost us first round draft picks, admittedly not quite as high a pick as Trubisky, and they were all medicore at best. It sucks to invest draft capital in a QB only to see him fail even to reach replacement level. That said, I've never wished any of those guys anything but the best once their time in Buffalo came to a close. Part of me would sincerely like to see Nathan Peterman have a fruitful career as a second- or third-stringer. This level of bitterness seems unhealthy.
  15. The Music City Miracle occurred in a playoff game, ending the season for a team that had legitimate super bowl aspirations. Hail Murray was a fluke play -- Hopkins was triple covered by the exact three players you would choose to defend him -- and had no effect whatsoever on the rest of the season, which was a resounding success by any reasonable standard. These two things aren't in the same universe.
  16. I don't think we're going to be able to sign him for the veteran minimum. Gonna need to up our offer a bit.
  17. My son (who is 22) and I decided last night that we're going. I've never been to NO but it's a place that I've always wanted to visit. We'll stay an extra couple of days to do some touristy stuff after we beat the Saints.
  18. Two stand out for me: 1) Rob Johnson. I still think it was probably the right choice to start him against Tennessee, but I was way too confident in his ability to be a top-flight QB going forward. 2) I don't remember exactly when I thought this, but I felt really good about Trent Edwards at one point. Then he got concussed and sucked from then on. Not sure if it was the concussion or he always sucked and the concussion was just a coincidence, but either way I was way off here.
  19. Yeah, but the decision to let Shaq walk was contentious at the time. Obviously it turned out to be the right call, but it would be nice to give ourselves a longer window to make a call one way or the other on Edmunds.
  20. Three pro-bowlers at key positions = A. Excellent draft.
  21. Allen, sure of course. Total no-brainer. Edmunds, I'm not so sure. I would like to see how year four goes before extending him. (Picking up his option is a nice move since we don't have to worry about another Shaq Lawson situation if he takes a couple steps forward next year).
  22. I was just thinking about this exact scenario myself. Everybody knows we're picking up Allen's option, so why the delay? Well, the delay makes sense if they've already decided to pass on Edmunds's fifth year. Not the decision I would make, but it would be understandable.
  23. At least we know he'll keep a lookout for the boogieman.
  24. I'll be happy with ETN if that's who we take at 30. I'd prefer a corner or edge rusher, but if he's the highest-rated guy on our board when our pick rolls around, no problem. It's fun having an offense like this -- that said, we can only score so many points per game and our defense obviously needs some attention elsewhere in the draft.
