  1. I thought Sauce might be the pick there, but maybe now...
  2. My point was that they might try to jump in front of the Saints if there's only one R1 OT left. We'll find out soon enough...
  3. Having gm'd the Chargers in TBD mock #1, they really need an RT. There's not much left in your mock, so I wonder if they'd try to jump up to get someone like Penning?
  4. This is a good take, especially your 3rd sentence. Given their cap constraints going forward, they will need to draft a number of positions where guys can take a year (or two) to develop.
  5. Yeah, this is why I'm more excited about this year's draft, because I expect Beane to do a lot of horse trading.
  6. Check the Von Miller quotes in the thread Yolo put up, he's actively recruiting Haden.
  7. The Pats receiver would have been "way more open" too if Mac's pass got there in 2.5 seconds instead of 3.1.
  8. I see the #s are up, which shows they have $7.1 mil cap space now. I thought Diggs would be a little lower than his $11.7 and Jones a little higher than his $1 mil, but the total is right where I expected. I think adding a vet CB is a certainty now, since Beane doesn't like going into a draft needing a position. Adding someone in the $3-4 mil range? He is really enjoyable to listen to, and an interesting dude.
  9. Of course, the one day I'm gone all day... With the only pick in the first 3 rounds of the 2022 NFL draft, the LA Rams select Myjai Sanders, Edge, Cincinnatti. No pressure, but Myjai will take over for perennial all-pro Von Miller who left us for some team out east... @MAJBobby and the 49ers are on the clock.
  10. Shrager of GMFB has his mock out this morning and has the Bills taking Quay Walker at 25. The odds of that are < 0, but it makes the Chargers feel very good about getting him in R3!
  11. Metchie is a good pick here, as well as the need for OL, but Sanders seems to be sticking out to me, even though it's not a need.
  12. Yeah, the first estimate of $3 mil was a guess, then I looked at the #s and saw it was closer to $2 mil. It will be interesting to see how the new contract impacts the Diggs cap this year!
  13. I think that was my point in the post you initially responded to. Spotrac currently shows $18 mil in cap space because they took down Diggs' current $17.9 mil cap hit. We won't know what they have currently until the contract details are made public and they still don't have Jones' contract up yet. My guess, was that they'd have about $7 mil (+/- a mil) after we know the details. Take out $2 mil for the top 2 draft picks, leaves about $5 mil to add a CB if they desire. All guesses at this point, until we know Diggs' contract. Interestingly, I was thinking yesterday that a Diggs extension just might happen soon because Beane needed to make room for the rookies, and it seemed to be the logical move at this point.
  14. @DrDawkinstein I don't believe your take is correct. The top 2 picks are the only ones that are projected to impact the cap that uses the top 51. They will count about $2 mil to the cap. They are not included yet because they are not signed. Prior to this extension they had about $200k, and Jones wasn't on the books yet.
  15. Because they took Diggs' current cap hit off until they know what the new contract looks like. I'd guess that they'd get to about $6-8 mil in cap space after the details are added for Diggs and Jones. They need about $3 mil for the top 2-3 draft picks.
  16. It's a 4-year extension, which makes the contract a total of 6 years, adding the existing 2. He's here for at least 4, and they will use it to lower this year's cap hit significantly.
  17. I'm sure Beane was just about to trade Diggs, but after Whaley's comment, he decided to extend him. At least that's how it happened in Twitter world.
  18. With the 79th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Quay Walker, LB, Georgia. The Chargers were looking at Spiller and Emerson as possible selections but, with both gone, they chose to select a more athletic MLB to pair with last year's R1 pick Murray. Overall assessment (added): For a team that is expected to compete with the Chiefs in the AFCW, the Chargers have some serious holes to fill. The right side of the OL is simply not good. OT Penning helps tremendously, though they will need to upgrade or add competition to RG. Other weaknesses on O include lack of adequate depth at WR, RB, and TE. On D, LB, and depth at boundary CB and IDL could be serious issues if injuries occur. At LB, Walker could help Murray reach his potential. Without a R2 pick, the Chargers still have some weaknesses that teams, in what may be the strongest division in the NFL, can exploit. Of course, having Mack and Bosa rushing the passer will make it a lot easier on the D... @mannc and the Houston Texans are now on the clock.
  19. There goes 1 of the 3 picks I have on my short list...
  20. Yeah, I made a pick from the golf course last year!
  21. This is a very likely pick depending on how the WRs go.
  22. I was a little worried if he'd be there until we got to Philly's picks.
  23. With the 17th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa. Protecting the franchise QB is priority #1, and Penning will immediately replace Storm Norton who ranked near last in pass-pro last year. Slater and Penning provide bookend protection for Herbert as the Chargers chase the Chiefs and Mr Lombardi. @H2o and the N'Orleans Saints are now on the clock...
