  1. I reached out to my Packers friends for info. They said that Kumerow was known as "Packer Jesus" because he looks like Jesus and makes miracle catches. Then he disappears for a few weeks. Really inconsistent. Great in certain moments, but invisible in others. Different from Foster who was great for half a season and otherwise invisible. And he doesn't look like Jesus.
  2. I haven't heard or read a thing about Moss, although I have seen some articles mention Singletary having fumbling issues. I don't recall ball security being a big issue for Devin last year and there haven't been any preseason games this year. While this is strictly opinion, here's what I think will happen: Devin, having had a very successful rookie year last season, will start. As long as he plays well and keeps the ball off the carpet, he will continue to start. Moss will work into the rotation and get a fair amount of playing time. If his play is superior to Singletary's, he'll take over as the starter in a few weeks. For now, Singletary will start based on his prior excellent play and his year of experience. If they both play well and there's a question over who should start, that may be a good problem to have.
  3. Every analyst and writer is entitled to their own opinion. The Bills could be excellent this year and be a legitimate SB contender. Their schedule could also turn out to be a really difficult one (you never truly know until the season plays out) and they could "regress" to a middle-of-the road record (between 7-9 and 9-7), after losing a few tight ballgames against top-tier clubs. Allen's development will likely be the key. I am more on the optimistic side, but we'll see how it plays out. I don't waste my energy getting upset about what a columnist thinks the Bills will do.
  4. The Bears made the right decision going with Trubisky. Foles had a nice early part of his career with the Eagles, then had a magical half-season and Super Bowl run. Outside of that, he's been pretty terrible for many years on multiple teams. He's an experienced veteran backup, but has little upside. Trubisky wasn't very good last year, but still has some upside and the Bears have to give him one more chance to see what they have before his rookie contract expires, at which point they pay him or cut him loose. For those who are comparing him to Allen, I would say the situation is similar (highly drafted QB with upside, but has shown flashes of bad play, rookie contract will come up and decision will need to be made), but the players are not. In my opinion, Allen has a lot more upside. He has "generational" arm talent and other superior physical skills. It's a rarity for a guy with his size to be as athletic as he is. Plus, he has all the intangibles - hard worker, good teammate, etc. If he puts it all together, he could be great. If Trubisky puts it all together, he'll be a good starting QB in the league, but he doesn't have the ceiling to be great.
  5. The decision on Feliciano will be based on two things: 1) how well Winters plays; and 2) what the prognosis is for his recovery. I don't think either of those things are fully known yet. And as others have said, I like having a guy like Bates on the roster. He has great versatility. He has mastered all of the positions along the line - truly the master backup.
  6. This is a difficult one, but likely the right decision. Below is a summary of my thoughts and also a summary of what I have seen in this thread: 1. Hausch was a great member of the Bills in his 3 years with the team, on and off the field. 2. His play tailed off last season, particularly from long range, although he was clutch in the playoff game 3. He made a lot of money on his Bills contracts, and earned/deserved it, by modern NFL standards 4. Bass is far less expensive, saves the team cap money this year and next 5. Bass has the stronger leg, at this point in their careers (and perhaps stronger that Hausch's ever was) 6. This could come back to haunt the Bills, but risk yields reward. May cost the Bills some games, but also win them some others. 7. Releasing him now gives Hausch a better chance of hooking on with another team for the season Best of luck to Hausch and his family.
  7. No politics here. Just make a decision regarding fans that applies the same to all 32 teams. That makes it fair and gives no team or teams an unfair advantage.
  8. I will stay out of the politics of this, but one thing that irks me is that different NFL teams are going with different standards regarding fan attendance. If KC can have 22,000 people in their stadium and Houston or Buffalo has no fans (and certainly the California, Florida, and Arizona teams shouldn't have fans), doesn't that give KC (and those teams that allow fans) an unfair advantage? I believe that for safety (in terms of preventing spread of the virus) and for fairness among the teams, the whole league should just agree to no fans this year.
  9. Yes, that's the gist of the article. They lost millions last year WITH fans in the seats, so they would lose even more without fans in the seats. Not enough TV revenue to sustain a season economically.
  10. Time will tell. I do think the Peguals will eventually get it right with the Sabres. Perhaps Kreuger and Adams are the right duo. If not, they will keep trying until they get it right. It took fewer swings and misses (although some) with the Bills.
  11. I had great luck this year. Past years have been more of a struggle. I had a $60 off for 12 months promotion that expired this spring. I called and got connected to Loyalty to see if they could replace the expired discount with a new one. He basically told me that he couldn't, but I should cancel my service, he'd process the cancellation order and that he'd then connect me with the department that handles cancellations but tries really hard to retain you. (Apparently, there's a higher level of Retention/Loyalty - who knew?) He connected me and they instantly offered me $55 off for 12 months if I stayed. I was about to say yes, but they asked if they could do anything else for me. I asked about Sunday Ticket. They immediately gave it to me for free. I asked about ST MAX and they added that on for free. I was so delighted that I forgot to ask about premium channels (HBO, etc.), which I'm sure they would have given me free for a few months. In all the years I have been with them, this has never happened. One year I threatened to cancel, they called my bluff and cancelled me. My wife was pissed as hell when she couldn't watch TV that night. I had to call and reconnect. Fortunately for me, they screwed up the reconnect so badly (the service didn't work for a couple of days) that I ended up, as compensation for their screw-up, getting the Ticket for about $75 for the full season that year. Streaming isn't a good option for me because I live in the western part of the US. Games start at 10 AM and due to family responsibilities, I often can't be in front of a TV or computer until later, so I have to DVR the games and watch them later. When the streaming feature matures technologically and/or they offer more streaming options, I assume that you'll be able to save the stream to some kind of cloud DVR and watch that way. As far as I know, with today's streaming offering, you can only watch live. Good luck to everyone. It feels good to finally be the one who had the good experience with this. Usually, I read about others' success and am frustrated about my own experience. I owe this board everything on this topic, as this is where I learned that Sunday Ticket was negotiable. I had no idea.
  12. I wonder if the GM and coaches are projecting the depth chart as much as is being done on this board, or if they are simply stockpiling quality O-linemen and will let it shake out in camp. Injuries that haven't happened yet, and COVID-related absences, will likely be a factor.
  13. Thanks to Mr. Papadopoulous for posting this. It must have taken a fair amount of time to put this together. Knox appears quite a bit in the earlier ones. Let's hope he improves as a 2nd year veteran. I was surprised by how often Beasley appeared, as he has a reputation for being sure-handed. I suppose you have to take into account how many targets these guys get. If you catch 95 out of 100 thrown to you, but these video clips only show your 5 drops, it may be an inaccurate reflection on the receiver. That said, if you look at it solely from the QB perspective, it tells a more realistic story.
  14. I don't know a lot about Winters. Here's what I do know: 1. The Bills have lots of cap room this year 2. The Bills lost their projected starting RG to injury a few days ago 3. Winters is a guard with lots of starting experience and he was signed to a 1 year deal with the Bills Whether Winters starts or is a capable backup, it works out for the Bills. If he's terrible in camp and he's shot due to injuries, they can release him with no ramifications beyond this year. I don't see any downside to this signing. After all these years, it is great to be a team that is willing and able to make smart moves like this. Not only do we have the necessary cap space to sign him, we are also seen as an attractive destination for veteran FAs who have options on where to sign.
  15. A few comments on this: It isn't the best broadcast team out there, but looks to be pretty good and much better than what they've had in recent years I'm not a big fan of the 3-man booth. Too many voices. Levy - I've always liked him. He does a good job, knows his stuff, seems to really enjoy the game(s) when he's broadcasting them. He used to do a great job on NHL games for ESPN. He's from Long Island, he went to college at SUNY Oswego, and seems to be knowledgeable about the Buffalo teams and fanbase. There are a lot of WNYers who go to Oswego, so maybe that has something to do with it, or it simply might be that he grew up a sports fan in NY state. Regardless of the reason, he's not one of the national media guys who you see saying inaccurate or disparaging things about Buffalo or its teams. Griese - He was the starting QB when Michigan won the national championship in 1997. His backup? Tom Brady. Just an interesting fact. I though his NFL playing career was ho-hum, but he's been pretty good as a broadcaster. He has certainly played enough football at the highest levels to have credibility and he's well-spoken. Riddick - Very knowledgeable about the NFL, both on the field and behind the scenes. Solid presence on camera, and also well-spoken. He's a little more understated than some of the blowhards that do the NFL, which is a very good thing.
  16. Well, he needed a job, and they offered him one....
  17. Baseball is less than a week in and is already cancelling games due to the virus. Baseball also has much less physical contact than football and smaller rosters and staff (so fewer people involved, so less chance of the presence or spread of the virus). As much as I want to have NFL football this fall, I don't think it looks very promising. My comments have nothing to do with anyone's greed, one way or another. I don't see any "evil" on the part of the NFL. For the players, coaches and other staff, this is their job and their source of income. Plus, money aside, everyone - players, coaches, owners, and fans (including me) loves football and wants to see it played. I'm just pessimistic that it will happen.
  18. They might as well be, as they have screwed me twice by not delivering me the tickets I bought for events through their site. ?
  19. Perhaps investing in renewable energy (wind, solar, etc.) might be where the smart money is going, if your prediction for next year proves to be correct. That said, politics and personal preferences aside, I would like to see the Pegulas' investments do well so that they have lots of excess cash to invest in the Bills, Sabres, and downtown Buffalo development.
  20. I love football and the Bills and really hope it comes back. The realist in me says that they either start on time and have to suspend or cancel the season due to the spread of the virus to too many players or they will have to delay the start for a few months until the conditions with the virus improve (curve flattened everywhere, vaccine invented, etc.)
  21. I was at that Rams game too. Paid a king's ransom for seats and was a mile away from the action. The stadium is a true pit - old and rundown. The seats were rusty, etc. and the acoustics, scoreboard, and everything about it was bad. At least the Bills won the game - one of the few highlights of the Rex era. The tailgating was also weak. Stadium parking was limited and was $100+. We ended up paying $50 to park in some guy's driveway about a half block from the stadium lot and it ended up being OK, but nothing close to the full tailgating experience you get in most NFL venues and certainly nothing compared to what you get in Buffalo.
  22. I attended a game at the Chargers' soccer field. It is a small and intimate experience and the concessions area had picnic tables where you could hang out, eat, have a drink, etc. Very different from any NFL venue I have ever visited, but a good experience. Other than what was on the field - that was the infamous Peterman game....I love New Era and have had great experiences there, but it probably has the ranking it deserves. The bathroom situation is terrible (hello birdbath) and the concourses are extremely narrow and jam packed to the point of almost being dangerous. I would hesitate to take a child or elderly person to a game for those reasons. The acoustics also aren't the best and I hate the sunburn I always get when I'm on the "sunny" side. That said, the sight lines are fantastic and the pre-game and in-game atmospheres are definitely among the best.
  23. I went to a college game at Jerruh World in Dallas. Their jumbotron was undoubtedly a spectacle, but it distracted my attention from watching the game on the field. I kept shifting my eyes between the screen and the field. It was very distracting and took away from my overall enjoyment of the game.
  24. With a strong defensive effort, the Bills can compete with almost anyone in the league, even with a backup QB at the helm. Barkley is no world beater, but he's an NFL veteran who has been with the team long enough to know the playbook very well. We should have a good OL, good RBs and good pass catchers, so I don't think the entire thing unravels if Barkley has to play a few games. I don't see us outscoring the Chiefs, but that's only one game. There's no reason we can't compete with the bottom 25 or so teams with a backup QB if the defense plays well. And if Fromm somehow rises to the occasion and beats out Barkley as a rookie, then he's got some talent that will help us. Fromm has played well against the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, etc., in high pressure games in huge noisy stadiums, so perhaps the moment wouldn't be too big for him. (I still think Barkley beats him out and remains the #2 for one more year and I also think there won't be full noisy stadiums this year.)
  25. I disagree with the OP's take. New England: Newton, if healthy, is the starter. If he isn't healthy, you're left with Stidham who has no NFL experience to speak of and Hoyer who is up there in years and is a career backup type of guy (arguably in the mold of Barkley, but I'll give you that he's more accomplished). Miami: Fitz and a rookie coming off of a bad injury. Jests: Darnold and Flacco. Darnold and Allen have different skill sets, but are arguably at about the same point in their careers. I think that Allen has more upside. Flacco is undoubtedly more accomplished than Barkley, but it's been a number of years since he's been at the top of his game. He is old, slow and brittle. He reminds me a little bit of Drew Bledsoe in his final years. He certainly isn't a guy to be feared. The Bills have a promising young starter on the upswing in Allen, a middle of the road backup in Barkley and a developmental rookie with potential and upside in Fromm. (I won't bring Davis Webb into the mix.) The Bills also have a really good defense, so the backup QB might only need to manage the game and hold down the fort until an injured stater came back. Barkley has a small sample size with the team, but the one meaningful game he started, he played really well. I think that he could take the reins and keep the team afloat for a few weeks. So, I don't agree that this is a huge hole that could ruin the season any more than if any other team lost its starting QB for an extended period of time. The Kurt Warner and Nick Foles stories are few and far between. Most #2 QBs are #2s for a reason. Sure, a Dalton, Newton or Flacco type may have been better than Barkley, but the Bills have reasons they didn't go in any of those directions and I trust the judgment of the current management and coaching staff.
