Rodgers worst quality is his unwillingness to take chances, and make plays. The guy doesn’t have comeback wins because he plays it too safe. Not to mention his smugness. I’ll take the guy who is all about winning over the guy who just wants to look good while thinking he’s better than everyone else. Screw award chasers. I’ll take Josh! .

Jalen Ramseys initial PFF grade for the game
Augie replied to Steel City Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
It would have been a good bit worse if Diggs had realized Ramsey had fallen down behind him and not just stepped OB after one catch. You could see he was upset when he realized Ramsey was on the turf. -
NFL Week #1 - Bills at the Rams - 2nd Half Thread
Augie replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have not yet had a single complaint from a neighbor. We are in new territory. -
I explained it well before then, like almost immediately in a responding post. You just wanted to keep arguing. To be fair, your first question was in fact a question, but your reputation precedes you. My bad if I assumed too much knowledge and took your question the wrong way. I thought it was clear the very first time, without edit. I don’t argue NASCAR with anyone. Regardless, we have a football game tonight. Let’s focus on that. I think she actually got married. Could be wrong there. Must be a tough lifestyle with all the travel. Wish her all the best in every aspect of her life. It takes a special person to have that level of drive given that she could probably live a cushier lifestyle if desired. We’ve known tour players, and it’s a serious grind!

I said victories in Majors. That is matches, not titles. I’m not going back to find the exact quote, but I even edited it for people unfamiliar with tennis who would not know what that means. Show me where I said titles, please. You asked which ones she won. That sounds like someone who is not very familiar with professional tennis, or a snarky comment. Maybe you shouldn’t take such a firm and argumentative position without better understanding. I took the first post by you as snark. I apologize. You just don’t know what you are talking about when it comes to tennis. I assumed a higher level of understanding, hence my snarky perception, so that’s my bad. Again, I edited the post so hopefully those with zero idea about tour tennis can understand.

Thank you, that is simple and true. You don’t make the quarters with one good stroke. You don’t even win in club tennis with one stroke. How many of these people posting have played or seen tennis live at a high level? If you’ve only seen it on TV, you have no idea how good the BAD players are!
-
This is true, and I mentioned that above. Every player has things to work on. That is where she should start. Now, if Swiatec were out of the way? Maybe losing in another bracket? It COULD happen now, but some tweaks will improve her odds. I’d also say it’s not impossible for her to beat Swiatec on the right day, under the right conditions. Hell, we lost to the Jags last year! I responded to a guy who said she was just average other than her forehand, and it turned into this. There is a giant chasm between “average” and “elite”. She is in there somewhere.
-
Nope. He said other than her forehand her strokes (a/k/a her GAME) is just average, and that is incorrect. If you have a single weakness (say, a weak backhand) you will NEVER see an opportunity to hit a forehand without getting run off the court. Nobody is “polite” on tour, they will pick on your weaknesses relentlessly, and without a shred of remorse. My “claim” was not “dubious”, I stated a FACT. She won more matches in Majors than everyone but Swiatec this year. It’s not a straw man, as people often like to say when they are proven wrong. She’s a top 10 player in the world (#8 currently), and the top US woman. She can’t get past Swiatec, but that is very rare for anyone. Swiatec has roughly DOUBLE the WTA points as the #2 player. Pegula and average should not be used in the same sentence. “Average” does not make it to top 10 in the world. You are not the best female player in the country with an “average” game. You just don’t like being wrong, or you just like to argue and look silly. Get over it.

I just went to set up the recording of the game and I had three options: record the game, record Bills and record Rams. This is new to me. Does this mean you get the Bills commentators for WNY feed or something? I chose to just record the game, but am curious what the other options yield. Any answers? Should I change it? He’s here……

How confident are you going into tonight's game?
Augie replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t see “I’m fairly confident I won’t vomit before kickoff” as an option. I’m not usually like this, but then the Bills are not usually in this situation with these expectations. Remember: win or lose, it’s only ONE game. Let’s not “fire everyone!” if we are behind at halftime. Please? -
As a kid I used to play where Jimmy Arias played indoors in the winter. It made it fun to follow him. As an adult we moved into a country club community in Florida. The guy on the court next to me executed a beautiful serve and volley and I thought “oh boy! We’ve got some good players here! This is going to be great!” As it turns out, I was playing next to Jimmy Arias again! He was teaching top juniors in the area out of our club. He also coached our kids high school team where his daughter was enrolled. Nice guy. A buddy took lessons from him and Dave McPherson (who coached the Bryan Brothers for years). When he was getting a lesson from one, the other would come by and tell him to do the opposite of what he was being coached. Then they would just argue about it for half of his very expensive lesson! 😂

I took it as snark, as I thought what I posted was abundantly clear. Apparently not clear enough, so I edited the post. There is nothing “average” about winning a couple dozen or so matches in Major tournaments in a single year. More than every other woman player not named Swiatec, I believe. Unfortunately, to be THE best, you have to beat the best and she hasn’t cleared that hurdle yet. That does NOT make you average. This sounds like the fools who said she was a little rich kid playing a country club game. I find that take to be both ignorant and offensive. .
-
Thank you for adding your own special twist. So you can only be above average if you win a Major? Good to know. I thought I stated a relevant stat. It was either misunderstood, or you used the Congrats to Jessica thread for another purpose. She has done very well in Majors this year against the top players, proving she is one of the best women’s tennis players in the world. Only one female player has more match victories in Majors this year. But maybe that’s not good enough for you. I’m sure she will be very upset and try harder to gain your approval. I was responding to someone who thinks that other than her forehand she is just average. That is simply not true. Somebody doesn’t know as much about tennis as they think. Yes, she can improve (like every other player) and her serve would be a good place to start, but the results don’t lie. .
-
……and rampant. RIP to the Queen. That was quite a run!
-
She has the second most major victories on the women’s tour this year. Nothing average about that. It’s just hard to get past the #1 Swiatec. EDIT: Match victories in Majors, for those who do not follow tennis at all. She has had several deep runs, and that is very impressive for such an “average” player. .

Thoughts on the Cusp of a Magical Season
Augie replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s not often we have the chance for Overreaction Fridays! It’s a long season, let’s peak at the right time. Never too high nor too low over a single outcome, that is my advice. Sometimes I struggle to heed my own advice, but I try. I’m much better than I used to be. -
I call TAILS! Has tails been taken yet?

What is everyone doing for food for tomorrows game?
Augie replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
How many people in your troop? Get old, go empty nester and things change. I cook for one and sometimes two. Which is to say, I used to love to cook, but it’s rarely worth it now. -
Hey, it’s tennis! On now is Jessie Pegula on ESPN. Not getting the ball as deep as Swiatek so far, but on serve in the first. Yeah, yeah, probably a Pegula thread, but I was excited and had premature positivist.
