  1. Forgive me, for I’m not really familiar with all this. Did I read you have to work as some type of “public servant” (that is a terrible term IMO, so please let me know if something else is more palatable) for a period of years? If that is the case, hell ya! You earned that!
  2. I’m not arguing or trying to make a point, but both 2nd round picks were later traded for a 5th. I found that interesting, and Zay had 82 catches last year which I found surprising. What happened in the Zay Jones saga can stay a mystery as far as I’m concerned, but I hope the young man is doing well in all regards.
  3. I was a kid, maybe 5th grade. We had season tickets at the Rockpile under the (leaky) roof. It was a rainy day, so my dad had his friends with end-zone seats swap tickets, and there I was with my friend Andy in the end zone. On a rainy day. When they still allowed umbrellas in the seats ahead of you. The game against the Chiefs was almost impossible to see, but you knew when they kicked a FG or an extra point, because this was before the nets caught the balls. A free-for-all would ensue every time. The 2 sober 10 year olds had no hopes of getting a ball. Ever. We just hoped to survive! Then it was over, and we stopped at the restroom on the way out. Leaving the restroom a GIANT MAN (to a 10 year old) stole Andy’s souvenir program from under his arms. Just ripped it away with a “what are YOU going to do” look about him. And you know what? I smiled as I typed all that. That’s a very fond memory. 🤷‍♂️
  4. One of the other dads at our kid’s school went into serious debt to get thru law school. By the time we got to be friends he was instead doing woodworking in his garage. And very happy about it. How is a kid supposed to know? You just hope you find the right fit for you one day.
  5. I’m thinking @House should be a person of interest.
  6. I was at a luncheon a while back and the speaker was from the economic development commission. He talked about trying to attract new businesses to the area, and the obstacles they faced. He said the companies they were trying to attract didn’t need more young people with college degrees, they needed welders and plumbers. You can make a fine living if you have mastered a trade.
  7. Oooh, where to start? We had dinner a while back with a very smart guy. He had been the President of Ford Europe and after “retiring” became the Dean of the business school at a major university. He compared education to manufacturing cars. You don’t shut the plants down all summer, or close for 3 weeks at the holidays. There is absolutely no reason it should take 4 years (or more, for many) to get a college degree. As for the cost, our son’s MBA from Emory University was about $85k. He’s got a very good job, but they just had their first child and the wife will be out of the workplace for a while. He’d be paying on that loan forever if we had not stepped in to help them out. Why was it so expensive? It was during Covid, so it was almost 100% virtual (fortunately, saving countless hours of travel). It was a wise investment of time and money, but there is no excuse for it costing so much. John Grisham actually wrote a book about a law school that existed for the purpose of generating student loans. It wasn’t about education, it was about generating profits. There is something very wrong about that.
  8. I’m VERY happy for you and your family. Oh, and you’re welcome. 😋 That is a LOT of Ca$h every month. Especially since it often comes around the time many people are starting to have kids. Somehow, we get by. 🤷‍♂️ EDIT: We have always said there are two things we would pay for, for ourselves and our kids. The first is education, and the second is housing. We let our son get a loan for his private school MBA, but then we paid it off when he finished. They just had their first child, the wife is out of the work force for a while, they are lucky. The best part is they know it. .
  9. Strange as this may sound, especially for the WNY crowd, I think I directed the creation of the first wings in South Carolina. I was at Land’s End Tavern, Hilton Head, SC in the early 80’s. NOBODY had heard of a chicken wing, and I was all over the state. I knew the pub owner, we went up to a mini-market (now long gone) and got the wings and fixings. He was shocked at how simple and good they were.
  10. Tell the truth, you talked the National Guard into looking for your wallet, didn’t you?
  11. He owes us nothing. I appreciate all his efforts, and I hope and pray he is well. It would be great if he found his way back at some point, but I want him to be happy and healthy first and foremost. This place can wear on people, that’s for sure. Since I’m not on Twitter, I appreciate somebody who sifts thru the nonsense and shows me what I might be interested in.
  12. He’s like Sammy, but in a round world where producing actually matters.
  13. So, cap jail is kind of like Otis in Mayberry? You can just grab the key and let yourself out?
  14. There was quite a bit of celebration early which you probably missed. 😋 Things calmed down later. Welcome back. Almost bedtime……..
  15. Thank you for once again exposing me to those nightmares. Does my therapist owe you money??? 😂
  16. I think you know I respect your opinions, so please take this as it is meant: Can you explain dark energy and dark matter to me? And why does it make up for about 95% of the universe, while things we “know” as in can see or touch is reportedly a tiny part of what we think is out there. I don’t want to go near any gray areas here, but the universe never revolved around the Earth. To think they knew enough to declare that is pure hubris in my mind. I’m wide open to any and all opinions. I can’t say I know enough to even have an opinion. EDIT: To be fair, many sources say dark energy/matter are 96%, while others say it’s “only” 68-72%, which goes to further support the point, which is…..I dunno! And I don’t think they do either. .
  17. Did the title give anyone else SAT prep class flashbacks? Just me? 🤷‍♂️
  18. Either that, or he’s living in the attic and has cameras and microphones hidden all OVER that house. ….probably one of the two.
  19. I don’t think we are nearly as smart as we think we are. Forget answers, we don’t even know the questions.
  20. When I was in high school at St Joe’s they made us read some NDE books by Dr Raymond Moody and Elizabeth Kubler Ross (why do I still remember those names?). It made me curious enough to read countless (dozens, I’m sure) other books and accounts over the years since. I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. I’m just saying it can make you very curious. I just watched a fairly recent 20 minute YouTube clip with Dr Moody. It’s an interesting watch, IMO. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwir-pXu16f9AhUFiO4BHfWnCFwQwqsBegQIERAF&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DIy-4QNq4HF4&usg=AOvVaw0uRSFbJbDDuKzHY-05aaXh EDIT: Ooops! But you get the idea.
  21. My mother got a message a few days ago that a friend of ours, a priest from another state, had sent her a SOS and pinned a map indicating he was very close to where she lives. She is 95 years old and panicked! What to do? The message said she was being notified because she was on his emergency contact list. She can’t take care of herself at this point! But we had to convince her to ignore it to keep her safe. They have a knack for picking on the most vulnerable among us. Yes, the priest had been hacked and it lead to all kinds of complications like having to close all his bank accounts. This resulted in him not having any income for a couple months while things were straightened out. I’m all for public flogging of scammers.
  22. “It doesn’t mean that much to me, to mean that much to you.” ”If you don’t stand up, you don’t stand a chance.” OKAY, lyrics, not sayings, but I like them. A buddy in college would let people into his dorm room to write whatever we wanted and was inundated with hammered college kids stumbling home from the bars. A couple cans of paint and a roller cleared it all up at the end of the year. Can anyone name the songs/artists?
  23. We split season tix to the Braves. My sister used to babysit Bob Kauffman’s kid. Loved them back then. Enjoyed the Bird/Magic years, and the Jordan years. That was fun. We would promise to take the kids to an NBA game at times when traveling. “It’s Lebron playing the Celtics tonight. Play your cards right and we will go, but you have to behave.” It actually worked sometimes. Then there was that weeknight in Charlotte. The younger son was a tough little AAU point guard. We probably had $800 into taking them to a Hornets game. About 3 minutes in my son turned to me and said “they’re not even trying!” Yep! Last time I ever paid to attend, and I was relieved. Now? I don’t even watch the Finals. I just do not care. When Cowherd or somebody else even talks NBA, I change the channel. It’s that simple. I still love college hoops and follow Xavier and the Big East pretty closely. They care and they try.
  24. When Milano barely pushed him and he fell back and slammed his head on the turf you knew there was a problem. Tua falling looks a little like EJ trying to slide. WHY IS THAT SO HARD? EJ looked like a baby giraffe sliding. Did he never even play tee-ball?
