I have to agree with kdiggz and WideRightRevenge's logic here. The round you take a player has no bearing on his success. While I many not include Cousins in the list, I certainly agree with the point being made, and it works both ways. Look at Ryan Leif and many other high draft pick failures. Even if Perterman works out and really starts to develop, you still REALLY don't know what you have yet. And that is why you're still going to draft a QB high in the first round (hedging your bets as kdiggz said). If both turn into studs, you have great trade bait out of one of them.

This will almost certainly NEVER happen. Peterman would have to light the 2nd stringers on fire to even have a shot to even get looked at as a number one and he is way to green for that. Could he go into the season as the 2nd string clipboard holder......maybe. But they would need to see some solid, solid work and consistency out of him through the rest of the preseason and even then being a rookie I just don't see that happening.

These are all GOOD signs if you look at the history of the Bickering Bills of the 90's. Some of those guys were fighting and bickering on and off the field all the time. But when it came to Sunday, they were kicking a$$ and taking names. IT just shows their getting emotionally invested in the team and they are passionate about playing well. Unless someone pulls a knife or gun (God forbid) I'm not going to worry about something like this.

Have to agree with this. It's one game against the three's. Yes he did some things right, but he also got some things wrong. If i were a betting man for next week, I would guess that Peterman is probably going to be with the two's, but only for evaluation purposes so coach can see what he can do with them. He defiantly has the arm with the gunslinger attitude from what of I saw of him trying to rifle in a few tight spots, but he needs to work on his footwork a bit and slow his game down a bit more. There were times where he made some really good decisions and other spots where he rushed a few.

You are correct, but people like us are starting to become fewer and fewer. I am a Huge fan of football and love to watch the game being played but even at my "moderately" young age I am finding more and more people, especially men that just don't watch it. Either they have stopped because they have become less interested or just never were interested. I have a few newer friends that when I asked what they thought of the Bills latest news, told me they don't watch football and don't pay any attention to what it going on; I was shocked. I mean, come on, we're guys...and guys watch football right? Well, not so much anymore.

When we are kids (pee wee), we have no idea what the inherent dangers are in the sport and we see these professionals playing and making tons of money and say, WOW look at all the money that guy makes playing a game. as we get older (High School) We start to understand the dangers in the game but by that time your hooked. You love playing and in our youthful minds we think "that will never happen to me", but we still know and understand there is a danger in playing the sport. The funny thing is knowing Football or any other sport for that matter is dangerous, is not the same as knowing what that danger leads to. Its dangerous to play Baseball, Soccer, or even Golf but generally speaking there is no serious danger of brain damage unless you take a serious beaner to the head.For Football, they are doing studies on just what happens to the brain in normal play, forget about getting a concussion, we're just talking about taking normal average hits playing the sport year in and year out. Even now with everything that we do know, its still only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding the brain. My point to all this is that while there has been a slight drop in kids playing now, I think over the next ten years as more is learned you will start to see a significant drop in kids playing. Especially in areas where kids have, more less dangerous options for their future. Where you will probably see less or no drop off is in the very poor areas where kids have fewer opportunities to remove themselves from poverty. Overall, I believe that by the time I am in my 80's (if i live that long (hopefully)I'm 42 now) I would not be surprised that Football is all but gone from the spectrum of sports you watch on TV or at the very least it will look like your watching a group of armatures running around playing tag or flag football.

While I understand and appreciate the data, the only statistic that matters are wins and losses. I don't care how good or bad you are, if your not getting the wins.......for better or worse every other stat does not matter.

Kirby, I agree with your premises but the fact is they have had way more misses than hits over the last 17 years. If they were working in any other career they would have been let go years ago. Do I feel bad that they lost their jobs?....sure, a little but not that much, and here is why. They weren't very good at their job and the last 17 years of mainly poor talent on this team proves that. Maybe they didn't have to let go EVERYONE but they did. oh well. Speaking from someone that has lost their job because he was told he did his job to well and was no longer needed anymore, I can't...scratch that.....I wont feel all that bad for them. BigPappy

Hard to believe its so long ago. I was a freshman in college during SB 28. Since then, I went to college, got married, had 2 kids, and then went back to college....lost all but one grandparent and then both parents, then got divorced from the bane of my existence.

THIS!!! You build the best team you can every year with the best players you can find via FA and draft. Your early round draft players are geared to help now and your lower rounders are geared for depth and future while you get the best FA's available within your cap space. option 2 is for a low character person who doesn't want to compete and that isn't any coach in the NFL. You find me an NFL coach who would tank a season for a high draft pick and I will show you an NFL coach that is in the unemployment line. option 3 should not even be an option. There is no such thing as a full on rebuild in the NFL anymore. Coaches and GM's get fired, new ones come in. They replace a few key players and re-tool with what they have to try and win ASAP not 2 or 3 years from now. Flame away.

Strategy 1 like you said is crazy. I would love to see it happen but we really don't have the draft leverage to pull off a trade of that caliber for a "high caliber" QB. I can definitely see strategy 2 happening and I think I would be okay with it as long as they get rid of Whaley. I just can't get behind the guy. His drafts picks have not worked out more often than they have worked out, and there has been mention to a leak within the organization and I think its him. eball, Excellent analysis and great response. I don't know where anyone gets off saying that the Bills or any other NFL team would be unattractive to come to. This is the NFL. there are only 32 teams to coach for. I don't think the coaches get enough credit for understanding how blessed and lucky they are to be able to coach in the NFL and no team is ever "unattractive"

Jeremy is correct, the only way they can't prevent him from interviewing is if he interviews for a head coaching job. Otherwise he is under contract and promotion or not it does not matter. I think Shady got a bad wrap in Philly. Not that he was totally innocent in all of the crap that went down there, but still . Have to agree with Hondo, I was not a fan of this trade either. But I was wrong and not ashamed to admit it. Agreed Kota, He has become one of the leaders on the team and its great to see. He is one of the prime talent players on the team and should be one of the leaders. But its nice to see that he actually stepped up and became one of them. In the past as a team, the top talent just didn't step up like they should have.

With Elway being pretty high on TT, I'm not sure it will matter that Kubiak is gone. Seriously? He can't hit an open reciever here. What would make anyone think he can do it in Denver? I agree with this.
