This was such an interesting story to follow. It started with Dan Lanning “turning him in” and everyone “holding the line.” I haven’t seen the number yet from UCLA but heard it’s significantly less than the $4M he was looking for. This will be an interesting lesson for future transfers. If he signed for less than he was getting from the Vols it’ll be really crazy.

What is your draft doomsday scenario?
Kirby Jackson replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Without over complicating it, my disaster is drafting for need early. It’s the same in every draft. You have multiple needs. They should take BPA at DT, CB, Edge, WR or MAYBE even safety if you love someone. Drafting for need does not work. That’s how you end up with a roster of good players but very few elite players. You can still draft late and get impact players. -
What is your favorite serendipitous draft story?
Kirby Jackson replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think that the best part of this story is that the Jags pulled the plug on the agreed upon deal because WR Reggie Williams was still on the board. 🤣🤣 He was a scrub and out of the league like 5 years later. The Raiders drafting the wrong Byron Young in 2023 🤣🤣: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/news/did-raiders-accidentally-select-wrong-player-2023-nfl-draft/36666aefc33d2733d3caade0 -
Sorry for the confusion. I was not trying to compare stats from different eras. I brought up the Cousins stats as an illustration as to why you can’t compare stats from different eras.

I am thinking some 🗑️ team sends them like a 4th. -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #62
Kirby Jackson replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is so uninspiring 🤣🤣. Royals, I guess. They can trade back but will be in the same dilemma they are in now but with another 4th. We did such a bad job drafting for the Bills this year. -

TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #56

I voted Harris because drafting 2 1T would be insane. I’m not a fan of slow receivers either but alas, that’s what we came up with. -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #56
Kirby Jackson replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
That’s fair and a much more eloquent way of saying what I was trying to get at. 🤣🤣 CB, they need a starter. They have a few other spots, DL & WR where they rotate and have different packages. They need, at least a guy at each of those positions that plays regular snaps. It doesn’t need to be 80% or anything like that but should contribute immediately. -

They are talking about his back injury now. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Is that the reason that he fell off and he’s healthy? Is that now a lingering concern that he will deal with from this point forward? -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #56

Another tough spot for the Bills. The first mock draft was the same thing. The Bills should go down from 30 and up from 56/62. It would be nice to be able to get 2 or 3 guys that can start as rookies. -

Mike Jasper vibes IMO (but a worse athlete). He is a monster but not a very good football player. -

I’m with you here. He feels like the old, “looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane.” -

Strangely, we are pretty much in agreement. He belongs in the HOF. He was a crucial part of that dynasty. I was simply suggesting that he was an important piece but not the reason for their greatness. In hindsight, his status has been elevated. He was very good.
-
Not just comparing stats because eras are different. He wasn’t nearly as efficient either. Marino, Montana/Young and Elway were ahead of him. Favre was later in his career as well. He could have been next. He was in the tier with the next group with Moon and Aikman.
-
The lease wouldn’t have allowed it. They would have been forced to be a lame duck franchise in OP for like a decade. I don’t remember the specifics but Toronto was never an actual option. Ralph had tied them in with no potential outs. The lease was his last gift to WNY.

Cunningham was PFWA MVP in 1990 & NFC OPOY too. He was an all-pro in 1988 as well. He wasn’t consistently great but he wasn’t 1 great year like Mark Rypien. Moon and Kelly are at least in the same tier. Marino is not. Hurts isn’t in the tier with Burrow, Mahomes, Allen and Lamar. Those Miami teams were good. Those Bills teams were historic. The Bills roster was a lot better. Miami had the better QB.
-
That’s the beauty of an opinion. We are all entitled to them. Moon was as good as Kelly. Cunningham was not (at least consistently). Cunningham at his best was better than Kelly at his best (see 1998).
-
Can you imagine what Beane’s roster would look like if they called Josh Rosen instead of Josh Allen?
-
Another spicy take, if the Bills fired McDermott after 13 seconds they would have a title by now.
-
Hurts is somewhere between 5-8 probably. Kelly was after Marino, Elway, Montana/Young, Favre later, Moon, at times Cunningham, at times maybe even Aikman could have been ahead of him. Would those Bills teams not have won at least 1 with those guys? Hurts actually did win. We can say, “a lot of people would win with the Eagles.” We could have also said, “a lot of people could have won with those 90’s Bills teams.” The difference is Kelly couldn’t get the best roster in football a title. They were the Eagles of their day (especially the 1st year). Kelly was a very good player but not elite. I guess it’s spicy to think Hurts is a fair comparison but I believe it.
