Not trying to go down this road again but in Matt Miller’s latest mock draft 8 of the 32 picks are from Clemson and Alabama. That’s 25% of the first round (and a zillion guys not yet eligible or coming out). The point remains, these aren’t teams with a handful of NFL players. There will be 50 guys on those rosters that will be in the NFL and 20 that will be 1st rounders. No, no they wouldn’t beat an NFL team (no one ever said that they would). No, they wouldn’t be physically dominated by bad NFL teams either. The guys that are there are bigger, faster and stronger. That’s why they go so early.

Hypothetical : Trade down in 1st with Raiders?
Kirby Jackson replied to bigfootindy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I voted in a heartbeat even though they can get a great player at 9. I’m thinking 24 and 27 would get you something like Dre’Mont Jones and Hollywood Brown. I think that’s better than Gary or someone like that. -
Nice!!

UB’s Tyree Jackson has declared for the NFL draft

Yep, that is the perfect comparison IMO. Tyree has a longer track record of success while Cardale had it at the biggest moments. Similar prospects -
Some interesting thoughts stony!! If KD went to the Clips that Clippers/Lakers dynamic would be nuts.

KD heading to the Knicks would make the East a lot more interesting especially if AD goes to the Celtics. The East would have AD, KD, Giannis and Kawhi. When was the last time 4 MVP caliber players were in the East?

AD would instantly be the best player LeBron has ever played with (including Wade in his prime). They just don’t have the chips to get it done IMO. Their best hope is that the Celtics think the asking price is too high and pulls out. Otherwise, it’s going to be exactly as you said. He will be all over Magic and Pelinka to start sending those young guys off for vets (most likely ends up being bad contracts). He then has a 3-year window to try to win another one. The one wild card in all of this is KD. KD is a different dude. I could see him walking away from GS. I don’t think it’s likely but possible.

It’s crazy but I think that it’s likely he misses on all 3. Maybe he can get Boogie, Kemba or Klay? It is either that or he is going to force the Lakers to start trading these young guys in a desperation move. Maybe Lonzo, Ingram and a 1st for Lillard? Maybe they try for Beal or (gasp) Wall?

Agreed, I think that will be their plan. They need to wait until Kyrie’s contract comes up though which is why it won’t be until the summer.

Just out of curiosity which NCAA games did you see? I think that we are all in agreement on 99% of the teams. The conversation isn’t about “a college team” (and never was). It was about Alabama and a 28.5 spread (not straight up). Clemson has to be a part of that conversation as well. If you are talking about solid programs like Louisville or Wake Forest (perenial Bowl teams) Clemson beat them by 60 and 61. If we are talking about an undefeated ND Clemson beat them by 4 scores. We need to stop inserting “could generic college team beat and NFL team” and focus on what the question was (and is) “could Clemson or Alabama cover 28.5 points vs. a bad NFL team?” It’s a totally different question. We can’t use college teams interchangeably. There is a MASSIVE gap between solid programs and Clemson and ‘Bama. Those teams are ONLY recruiting future NFL players. It’s like that run Kentucky had 7 or 8 years ago. They were bringing in 5 of the top 7 players in the country. Without bothering to do the research I would bet that there are more 1st round picks playing at Alabama and Clemson than any NFL team has. Again, there is a giant mental gap but not a talent gap.

This is pretty much where I am. As someone that pays close attention to recruiting we often miss the boat. As an example the backup LT at Clemson was the number 2 OT recruited last year and a top 20 overall player. He may not be playing yet but he’s 8,000,999 times better than the guy starting at a good program like a Northwestern. The talent isn’t spread out anymore. There are a few national recruiting bases that are ONLY bringing in NFL players. I believed that an elite college team could cover 28.5 against a bad NFL team. I find it ironic that the Bills improved dramatically when they inserted two, undrafted rookies into their starting lineup. Those guys were JAGs at Alabama. I don’t know why people can’t see that they are largely the same guys that they were a year ago. This massive talent gap that people believe exists doesn’t. Before someone talks about the lines, Alabama’s OL is actually bigger than the Bills. The biggest advantage is the mental side. The NFL teams could confuse and disguise against the young QBs. It’s not the weird physical mismatch that some imagine. Look no further than Wallace and Foster. Clemson is in a similar place and was a DOMINANT team once they handed Lawrence the keys. This is where the discrepancy is. There are roughly 50 guys from those rosters last week that will be in the NFL and 10+ that will be first round picks. This isn’t a handful situation. This was Northwestern and Pitt.

I tried to use the most realistic option and set it to difficult. It isn’t perfect but probably as good as you’ll get.

Agreed, I think he’s going to be a star in the NFL
