Fred Jackson cut??(UPDATE: Pegula says Hell To The No)
Buftex replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
will be very sad to see Fred go, no doubt. But remember, most of us lived through a day, a little over 15 years ago, when Bruce Smith, Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas all became "former Buffalo Bills". It seemed unfathomable...but we trudged on...and so did they. -
Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When PFT and other sources make comments like this, I am never sure if they are just connecting the dots (the same dots that said Harris was pretty much a done deal for Buffalo, because of his Rex connection), or if they really know something. Starting to think it is the former rather than the latter. If the Bills have made their best order, based on their own standards of his dollar worth to the team, why would they just decide to pay him more all of the sudden, just because another guy at the same position decides to stay with his team -

I'd put Gimme Shelter, Tumbling Dice or Sympathy for the Devil up against anything else...

Love the both. I will lean toward the Stones though. The Beatles were a brilliant flame that burned out fast...but they were something., really something.... The Stones have been around forever, and are easy to take pot-shots at...but in their prime (1967-73) I think they defined modern rock-n'roll. The Doors? Please! The Stones encompass so much, and have been influential in every facet of the music business. Fashion, business, recording...and best of all, music. Saw a funny quote, sort of related somewhere...something like "Wings...the band the Beatles could have been!" As the great George Carlin once said: "Think about how stupid the average person is, and then realize, half the people are even stupider"

As someone who likes Cutler, I have to point out, the rumor about this past season was that he was "going rouge" on Trestman....he just refused to execute the offense the way Trestman wanted him to. He has a ton of talent, and I would love to get him in Buffalo at the right price...but he does come with some baggage...he believes in his arm, I am not sure that handing the ball off 40-45 times a game, with 15 pass attempts is in his DNA.

I think Whaley and Rex agree with you. In retrospect, nearly every interview I have heard with Whaley, addressing the team overall, he went out of his way to rave about Preston Brown. Perhaps the wheels were spinning on a Kiko trade, for awhile. Would any team, other than the Eagles have given up as much for Kiko? I wonder.
-
If you believe what you read, McCown chose the Browns over the Bills, because the Browns were guaranteeing McCown a starting job...that wasn't the case in Buffalo. It will be a competition.
-
Don't despair. They have to bring someone in...

Say McCoy refuses to be a Bill. Would you...

I like the trade..but the one thing that bothers, or maybe I should say, puzzles me: Does Chip Kelly really think that McCoy is done, or useless to him? Love Kiko, don't get me wrong, but I would think the Eagles could have packaged McCoy, and say, some draft picks to move up closer to getting Mariota. Can't keep up with all the moving parts in these things any more...but is there some financial advantage to the Eagles for trading McCoy now, as opposed to later in the off-season? Is he due some big pay-out if he is still on their roster once FA starts? If so, I can understand it a little, but otherwise, if I was an Eagles fan, I would be very leery of Chip Kelly and all the power he has obtained in Philly. Kelly seems out to prove that the Oregon Ducks can beat any team in the NFL. I wouldn't be shocked if he slides from being a "genius" to a buffoon in the next two years... he is dumping, and continues to dump, a lot of proven NFL talent, and getting little in return for it. -
Great point. Everyone seems to be rushing to the conclusion that this new offense will be all run, run, run... they shouldn't forget, however, that McCoy is a pretty gifted receiver out of the backfield... or that the Bills just spent 2 first round draft picks on a "generational" receiver in Sammy Watkins...a guy that Rex Ryan has a previous connection to... the Bills will likely run the ball more than we have seen recently, but lets not just assume the passing game is going to be non-existent.
-
I don't know how the trade will work out....when I first heard about it I was pissed...but now I am actually kind of happy about it.. If I was an Eagles fan (I hate them) I would probably be pissed. I think they are making a huge mistake in letting Kelley run the whole show in Philadelphia. I am not a fan of the guy...he thinks it his system that will lead that team to a championship..who needs players? Also, as an Eagles fan, I would wonder why they couldn't have gotten more for McCoy...make him part of a trade that would allow them to move up to get his boy, Mariota. This move seems very short-sighted, on their part, in my opinion. I hate losing Kiko, mind you, but he is far from a proven commodity, with the injuries and all.

Alright KD....your right. A friend of mine texted me about the trade, and I gotta say, I kind of flipped out, inside my head...but you are right...I trust your instincts on Bills stuff, as much as any ones. All that said, I have to remind myself, we traded Kiko for a "superstar" caliber running back..not Bryce Brown. I know McCoy had a so-so season in 2014 (I picked him first overall in the big money fantasy league I am in, so I am all too aware) but I think he is still a really great running back. In some ways, it seemed like Chip Kelley was trying to phase him out...and their O-line struggled to run the ball. Off the ledge. At first, I hated losing Kiko, more than I loved getting McCoy...but I am coming around to it....we'll be better for this.

Opinions are like !@#$s...everyone has one, and apparently, some need to empty them frequently. -
Spiller: EJ may have been too "buddy-buddy" with players
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Manuel is hardly the first QB to face this issue. -
Was the scene with the hairdressers husband a dream? They cut to Rick waking up from a sleep...kind of weird. I will say, I did like the turn at the end...Rick is turning to the dark-side of the zombie apocalypse...

I say Jets @Bills on the early game of the opening week Monday Night Football double header...

I realize, Leroi has a certain amount of credibility here. But please, keep in mind, he did follow it up with an "IMO". Signature or not, that IMO is there for a reason. I used to have a Bills "insider" of sorts, and I heard a number or things from this person that turned out to be accurate, and a few that didn't. I don't think that person was relaying bad info, necessarily...just that things change from day to day. The Bills, as of right now, haven't even signed McCown... What I would glean from that, Leroi probably knows the new Bills staff is not sold on EJ and he (Leroi) is assuming he is not in their plans, and will be cut. As has been stated over and over in the original thread, unless EJ was a team cancer (and I have heard absolutely nothing to that affect..in fact, quite the opposite), there really wouldn't be any advantage at all to cutting him in March. None, whatsoever. Now, if they traded him, that would be another thing....but this rumor seems based on the notion that Rex/Roman and whoever else (Pegulas? Whaley?) think he is a worthless football player.

Not a bad episode. Maybe I am just stupid (won't deny the possibility), but as spectacular as the zombie battle was last night, I found the choreography of all the action, kind of confusing.

QB guru George Whitfield's take on EJ
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I lend some credence to the notion that he was a bit "over-coached". Personality wise, EJ seems like somebody who is very eager to please. Having three people telling you different things can make that task all that much harder...we want him to get to the point where he is "free to be me". The first 6 or so games of his career (til that injury against the Browns) I was pretty excited by what I saw from him... no moment ever seemed "too big" for him, he seemed pretty unflappable. I understand why Marrone benched him, and I couldn't really fault him for that...but in the end, the only way he is going to improve, or the only way we are really going to know what we have in EJ, is to see him play more. When he was drafted, everyone acknowledged he was a raw talent...but then nobody seemed to have the stomach to let him learn on the job. Manuel is a smart kid, and I think he has the desire to be great. I haven't heard anything to the contrary. He can use the benching as a positive. Here is hoping he will! -

Yeah, I completely support EJ. -

Whoa...not really sure what point you are trying to make...I wasn't laying blame on "EJ alone" for the Texans loss at all...just countering the argument that somebody was making that he was awful last season...by my count, the Texans game was his only really horrible game, and Watt had a bit to do with that. Yes, the line play was awful, receivers didn't have a great day... but in the end, there were plays that EJ could have made, but didn't...in my estimation, it was because he was a little shell-shocked by the Texans D/Watt. His accuracy (his biggest issue) was very off that game. I think we are making the same point... -

Hind-sight is always 20-20. At least usually! A GM insisting that certain players play, over the coaches wishes, can lead to a lot of problems down the road. The day that game was played, very few knew that Orton was planning to retire in 24 hours, and certainly, nobody knew that Marrone was going to bolt. We bash Marrone a lot here (and with good reason mind you) but he did a credible job, if nothing else, of "changing the culture" with this team. At that point in time, Whaley was letting his coach manage the game-day roster, as was his job. It is the way it should be. -
