  1. Having an excruciatingly impatient fan base, and a revolving door at the HC position doesn't help....
  2. I don't know...these computers are pretty smart now. Perhaps it is their way of telling you "don't waste your time"?
  3. Not a knock on Tyrod at all, but I think that is a bigger problem than our defense. I am disappointed that the defense isn't what it was the previous two seasons, but there seems to be a trend in all the games (at least where Tryod has been the starter) where the offense just seems to be stuck in the mud for a half a game. Granted, the Bills are like #6 in scoring (can you believe that!), so they are doing something right... but those seemingly endless 3 and out series will kill you, especially against a good team. Not really sure what the answer is. Better/different play calling? I would really like to see them get the ball to Clay a little more than they have. A great (or at least very good) pass catching tight end can be such a huge advantage in so many different ways, for an offense.
  4. If you are that concerned about it, just do it old school...just watch the Bills game, on your tv...skip the in-game chat stuff, and DVR the Sabres game to watch afterwards. As the Bills game is only on the NFL Network, they will not give you hockey scores during the course of the evening...your only spoiler possibility (very remote) is that Phil Simms (or whoever is doing the game tonight) mentions the Sabres game...very, very unlikely to happen.
  5. I can't remember who it was in reference too, at the time (though I am pretty sure it was an O-lineman), but I remember early in the season, Rex saying something to the effect of "I don't believe in giving guys help on the field, if they are in the game, they have to get the job done. If somebody else is helping them, it is taking away from their job".
  6. There are more than a few !@#$s on this board...
  7. I used to go hot and cold on NCAA, but over the last few years I am really starting to loathe it...
  8. Mark, I know how you feel...I have gone through the same thing...but about 3 or 4 years ago, I stopped watching ESPN with any kind of regularity...I pretty much only watch the NFL Network (which, IMO, is a pretty terrible product too, when you think about how good it could be) during the off-season for some immediate draft coverage, and the "NFL Classics" (I love that ****!). I don't listen to sports talk radio near as much as I used to...but I still love the games on Sunday, and Monday nights...no Thursdays for me, unless the Bills are playing. I don't hate the sports, I hate all the cottage industries that sprout up around them.
  9. Shady had him a time in Vegas this past weekend! Like an audition for "Ballers" http://bustedcoverage.com/2015/07/20/shady-mccoy-vegas-encore-pool-photos/
  10. I can kind of understand people buying into the Dolphins, and I can understand the skepticism about the Bills, but it seems that most national types perceive the Jets to be substantially better than the Bills. What am I missing? They will have a good defense (they have for a while now), but does Revis really pu them over the top...does it make them that much better than the Bills?
  11. Ha-ha...I know what you mean...I used to read his columns religiously, but they started getting too long... I look forward to this show. In general, I like most HBO productions, and their sports based series are always top-notch. I love Real Sports (though I am not really a Gumball fan), and I really used to like Costas old show. I think Simmons has cultivated a bit of an "agitator" image, and that will work well on HBO. No doubt, he will be going hard after Roger Goodell and the NFL.
  12. Great landing place for him. I always liked him as a journalist, but really didn't like him doing NBA games on Espn. And I am a Celtics fan!
  13. I will confess, growing up, I never really loved Van. It wasn't until after he was gone that I realized how much of an effect he has had on the way I "hear" sports in my head, even today, at 50. When I think of the Buffalo Bills, or different players, I can still hear Miller's voice in my head saying things like "EJ....looking...looking...he's got Sammy at the 30....20...15...10...and he is in for the touchdown"! For me, the team I most associate with Van Miller was the Buffalo Braves... I know this is all cliché, but I really was that kid who put his transistor radio under his pillow when he was supposed to be in bed, listening to Miller call the Braves games. John Murphy had a guest on last night (sorry can't remember his name)...he was the guy who wrote that awesome Buffalo Braves book "Home Of the Braves" a few years ago...it was a great interview, with lots of stories about Van. They also played a few minutes of Van calling Braves games...I seriously felt like I was 10 years old again... To your point about Rick Jeanerette...I know what you mean, but I still don't think he is overrated. He just comes from a different era, and came up as solely a radio guy...as a kid, I felt jipped when I "had" to listen to RJ on the radio, because that meant I wasn't seeing the game on tv, with the smooth tones of Ted Darling. But RJ always had a way of keeping it exciting, and you felt like you were in a sweaty little press box with him, watching the game. They are both fantastic. As for Murphy, I hate bagging on the guy, because I think he sounds like a hell of a good guy...but he is a little generic sounding, doing the games. I respect the fact that he doesn't try to mimic Van Miller, but his own style is just very perfunctory. I think Kelso is the star of those broadcasts, what little I hear.
  14. Thanks for sharing bbb. Love that they caught the Tonawanda and Cheektowaga shout outs! Here is the full version of "Let's Spend the Night Together" with the "Super Freak" intro: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=rolling%20stones%20lets%20spend%20the%20night%20together%20buffalo&qs=n&form=QBVR&pq=rolling%20stones%20lets%20spend%20the%20night%20together%20buffalo&sc=0-45&sp=-1&sk=#view=detail&mid=FB20ABD1A3999E7833F7FB20ABD1A3999E7833F7
  15. Okay, I gotta ask: SILF?
  16. Bills Sabres Celtics Stopped following baseball when the Expos left Montreal
  17. I am in til the end of the season, but I will confess, I had to watch the last two episodes twice. Confession: I fell asleep during both at one point or another on the first viewing, so I had to go back to see what I missed...it only helped a little. I don't hate it, as it looks great (love the overhead shots of LA Freeway), but man, it is convoluted. I thought the first 6 episodes of season one were among the best tv I have ever seen...and then it sort of fizzled. It wasn't until stepping away, I realized, that first season was about the characters, not the story...and I appreciated the ending a little more. I think we are in that territory again. All the characters are very damaged, and I think that is where the interest (is supposed) to lie. The details on the crime are so minimal... surely Nick Pizzolatto is aware that this is pretty hard to follow...and apparently he intends it that way, or doesn't care. The dialogue is pretty remarkable. Not necessarily always in a good way. If people really were this self-involved you would hate them...never mind watching a tv show about them...odd show...I rarely give up on a show, especially this far in...but man, next weeks episode looks like it has possible stinker written all over it. Amy McAdams, dressing up like a ho, to go undercover at the big "hooker party" looks like something right out of Charlie's Angels 2015.
  18. I agree with you on some level (though I would argue, most caller based sports talk shows are pretty unlistenable for more than about 15-20 minutes, and Buffalo fans are hardly the only ones with chips on their shoulders...remember Red Sox fans, before they finally won a championship?), but I think you are missing the larger point. It doesn't bother me, or most here it seems, that Cowherd thinks we are all !@#$-tards (I don't live in Buffalo any more either!), but is the length he goes to disparage (his words) "cranky old white guy who lives on the east coast, who is miserable because they live in fileds of snow and ice', and to use that to tell his tale of rising up, and disparaging "old school" sports fans who are loyal to their team, and don't suck up to success, as he proudly does. As you say, obviously, he connects with some people, as he has his fans...I just think he is the worst...hadn't listened to him for about 2 years, and while home on vacation recently, I happened to catch a few minutes of his tv-simulcast...just as grating as ever.... I heard him many times extoll the virtues of being a front-runner sports fans, and say, essentially, if you like a ****ty sports team, you are a glutton for punishment, and miserable. He just represents, I think, the attitude that has turned so many off from ESPN...he is just a big turn off for the network, for me, and I find his attitude pretty much anti everything I have loved about being a sports fan for the last 45+ years.
  19. So, why exactly would you like the group of guys on the left, but not the one on the right? Just curious.
  20. I live in Austin, TX... the "home teams" are the Cowboys and Texans...I am neutral on the Texans....the other team? Guess...
  21. It is a good comparison, though I think RW has to get a little stronger. Heard Andre Reed, earlier this spring, comparing Woods to himself...I can live with that too! I like Woods a real lot!
  22. I completely understand what you are saying, and I completely understand why Cowherd doesn't talk about a lot of things...where he loses me, he goes on rants why he doesn't talk about small markets. And, he talks about himself way too much...but he isn't really a very interesting person. I think he is pretty terrible as a talk show host. I listen to plenty of national radio guys who rarely, if ever, talk about Buffalo, or things that most Buffalo sports fans are generally interested. If a host is good enough, I can listen to them talk about baseball every hour, though I have little interest in the sport. Cowherd is just condescending, and sounds like he has gone to the Ayn Rand school of broadcasting. He is somebody I could never imagine wanting to "drink" a proverbial beer with.... unless I could smash the bottle over his head after I was done.
  23. Forgot to mention,in keeping with the "zip-code" theme, right before the did "Let's Spend the Night Together", they did the opening intro, and first few lines of "Super Freak"
