Game of Thrones Part Deax: The Readers Thread
Buftex replied to Kevin's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I am pretty sure that was her. In real life, she has a bunch of tats too. I think the bush, as well as the tats might have been CGI'd out... not that she didn't look good, but if they were using a body double, wouldn't they have used a harder body? I remember reading something a ways back about the filming of this scene, and the impression I got was that this was Lena Headey... -
Andre Reed coaching with Bills (intern)
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously? That's all you saw? Sorry, but you don't know what the !@#$ you are watching then. The worst kind of sport fan... wow, an entitled Bills fan who goes "all the way back" to the Super Bowl years... This board is, more and more, becoming overrun with people who think they are knowledgeable because they can come up with some way to rip guys like Kelly, Reed, Thomas, Bruce, Marv... instead of appreciating all the great moments those guys gave us, instead focus on the handful of bad moments we are all aware of... we all lived through them too..nothing personal, I am sure you are a great guy, but your post disgusts me. Reed would hardly be the only great athlete who didn't realize his time had come (and when was Kevin Willams ever better than Andre Reed?), or guy to play injured...you would think since you have been watching for so long, by now, you would have gained some perspective on what makes players tick...Reed was not perfect (who is?), but he certainly added a lot more positives during those years than the things you are referencing. You really think the Bills are going to 4 Super Bowls without him? James Lofton, another HOFer claimed that playing opposite Andre Reed added a whole new chapter onto his own career. -

Non book-reader too...apparently you have to read the books though, to fully hate this show to the extent that you need to, to keep watching it, and fully appreciate it! -
Article: E.J. is beating out Cassel and Taylor in OTA's
Buftex replied to pbanach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like your points, JW... Let me ask (and maybe you can't answer this): do you ever think that teams get caught up in reacting to these "hot takes", and it influences their decision making at times? I kind of get the feeling it does sometimes. In some ways, I think paying too much attention to this kind of stuff is sort of what short circuits some personalities...Doug Marrone comes to mind. And I am not referring to his handling of the Bills QB's in 2014. Referring more to his sort of Jekyll and Hyde transformation at times, when dealing with the media...sometimes (particularly in 2013) he was pretty affable, and seemed to almost enjoy hearing himself speak with the media. But, when losses started to pile up, and the line between "hot takes" and actual journalism was blurred in a negative way, he started to get more and more prickly... I recall last season, when Schoop and other GR personalities started to obsess (as only they can do) over Marrone's unwillingness to go for it on 4th downs (it was a daily drum beat on GR), there was a game (I can't recall which one) where Marrone decided to gamble on 4th down, and was unsuccessful. After the game, when asked about it, he said something to the effect of "well, I did that one for you guys, and now you can understand why going for it on 4th down isn't always the best thing"....almost like he was did it, just to shut them up. Also, I remember last offseason, the radio guys (those guys again) seem to really focus on EJ's rough practices in OTA's and in training camp sessions, pretty early on. When he spoke to the media, he took a defensive tone with the media, which I had never detected before. I wouldn't suggest that was the reason he had such a tough summer, but I can see where it could have an effect. -
I think it is going to be a tough, tough division to win...

Just because he is not afraid to cut players, it still remains to be seen how successful his plan will be. As Bills fans, we are all aware of how fleeting talent is, and how hard it is to come by. Just because being an un-sentimental prick has worked for Belichek, it doesn't necessarily mean it works for Chip Kelly. Perhaps it will, but this sentiment (fresh, brighter mind) is all based on perception, rather than reality at this point. He has won some games his first two seasons in Philly, but a large part of that was with the talent he inherited from Andy Reids' time there...lets' see how he does after he guts his team, and re-builds on the fly.

It isn't just Sullivan...it is the nature of "sports journalism" (and all other "journalism" for that matter) these days. The internet killed the newspaper star!

Yes...to me he is the first face I think of, when it comes to "horror" flicks. The Hammer films are still the best...little bits of our childhood slip away every day... RIP Mr. Lee.

Yeah, I have kind of lost a little respect for Carruci, in this second go-round. Not that I don't like him personally, but I no longer consider his stuff any more legit than any of the other reports by local media types.

Petition for the Bills vs Jags game available on DirecTV
Buftex replied to uticaclub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it is more than just getting to see the game for many people. Sure it is cool that everyone will have a chance to see the game. I can live with watching a game on my laptop, as opposed to my 56-inch HD tv. I already have to do that twice every season, there are two Sundays every fall that I am required to work on Sunday afternoon. So, I am up at 11pm or so, those Sundays (having avoided the NFL as much as possible all day), watching the game on NFL Rewind. Sometimes I hook the ;laptop up to the tv, and honestly, it looks terrific...not quite as good as my regular HDTV picture, but darn close....very few buffering problems, if any. Everyone else in the house is asleep...it is kind of fun in some ways... However, and I know this is going to sound schmaltzy and sentimental..one of the greatest things about being a Bills fans, is the camaraderie you share with other fans. If the NFL trends this way in the future, after all the bloated network tv contracts lapse, I have very little doubt that this will be the way that NFL fans will experience NFL football. I am sure bars will figure out a way to make work for them. However, I think more and more people will just sit on their couch, at their desk, or in their beds, watching the games, because, when it comes down to it people will always opt for convenience, when it is available. I normally go to a backers bar to watch the games, every week. Haven't missed a Bills game since 1989, Over the years, I have noticed, even at the bar, people are less engaged with the game itself, because many just can't go more than a minute or two without checking their cell phone....I love fantasy football, but I am weary, even then, of the barrage of stats that we get is detracting from our communal experience of the game...we all watch, but now we might not all be watching for the same reason...I feel all these technological advances are great...but they are affecting the game day experience, and not just for the people who are actually at the games. -

Bills Teammates Rave about Tyrod Taylor
Buftex replied to RyanTalbotBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am really hoping EJ wins the job. If you are in to reading tea leaves, however...pretty much interview that I have heard, where players are commenting on the QB's, with EJ they always say things like "that's my guy", or "he's my boy"...whereas with Taylor on Cassel they comment, positively, about their performance, or at least what they can honestly tell at this point of the off-season. -
Where Will All The Footballs Go?
Buftex replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has been my secret fear about the coming season...all these weapons, who is going to feel slighted? I suppose, if they win, everyone will be happy. I still don't feel like I have a real handle on what to expect, as far as Harvin goes. Maybe I just haven't seen him play enough over the years, but the way they talk about him (NFL media, other players, coaches) he is this very elite talent...but in what way? In early June, I operating under the pretense that everyone has a great season..what would that mean as far as Harvin goes? To hear Rex tell it, Clay might see as much time on the field as the starting QB, or starting QB's combined... -

Panthers sign Cam Newton through 2020
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah...sometimes stats don't tell the whole story, especially with QB's. People will always say Roethlisberger is overrated, basing it on stats..but if you watch him play you come away much more impressed. Yeah, sorry, forgot about Rivers and Ryan. I do, however think you are under-esitimating him a bit, lumping him in with Cutler (who I actually like), Dalton and Kaepernick... either way, the Panthers were right to give him the long term deal. -
Panthers sign Cam Newton through 2020
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is pretty great... Brady, Brees, Manning, Roetlisberger, Luck, Romo, Eli, Rogers and Wilson are the only ones I might consider over him...and at least 5 of them are nearing the end of their careers. He really hasn't had much to work with... when he had Steve Smith, that is all he had...now he has Benjamin, and not much else. Very overrated set of running backs.... mediocre o-line....he can make every throw, and can run the ball very effectively (though the injuries might be starting to catch up). Two playoff appearances in four years on teams with good-decent defenses, and enemic on offense...he carried the Panthers those years as much as any QB had in recent years. -
Interesting...I think most casual observers, with no horse in the race, are feeling that the Warriors are going to win this one...they are pretty impressive. Either way, I am thinking it is going to be a really great series...love the east coast/west coast thing...

He has not had a stellar cast around him, that is for sure. I do think he is definitely a top 8 QB. -
I have the Machine Gun Kelly poster... also a sweet Jack Kemp Sports Illustrated poster!

I like Golden State,so I wouldn't be upset if they won, but I think it would terrific for Cleveland to win a championship. Always feel a kinship with that city... I hated LeBron as much as anyone when he left the Cavs for Miami...but he re-stored my faith in sports decency, to a degree, when he went back to Cleveland. Would love to see a storybook ending for the Cavs and Cleveland sports fans. Should be a great series...logic tells me the Warriors win, but I wan the Cavs.
