[closed]I smell a fart in Buffalo..........

He who smelt it, dealt it... -
Oh yeah, I agree...Tannehill isn't nearly the QB that Bledsoe was in his prime...though not sure he (Bledsoe) was in the same neighborhood as Marino...he had as much physical talent as Marino, sure, but maybe not the mental edge that Marino had..that is a big part of it. I just meant that when the Bills played against Drew Bledsoe, I never had the fear that his presence alone, even in his prime, gave them a big edge over the Bills. Perhaps it is just a sad commentary on the state of the QB position right now... but the biggest perceived edge that the 2015 Dolphins have over the 2015 Bills is the QB position. I would concede, Tannehill is better than any of our QB's...but in the end, I still think we have the better team, and Tannehill, alone, isn't going to make them a better team than us.
-
From what I have seen of Tannehill, he is decent at times, but really struggles with the teams in the AFC East. I guess that shouldn't be too surprising as all of those teams have very good defenses. Despite the fact that he plays for the Dolphins, I derive some pleasure in knowing, from his example, that QB's can get better if you give them time to grow. That said, as a Bills fan, I feel the way about Tannehill the same way I felt about Drew Bledsoe when he was a Patriot...I know he is a better than average QB, but I never worry about him killing us when we play against him.

Perhaps reaping the benefit of having an organization that sticks with you, even if you are stinking it up a fair amount of the time? Something to be said for letting a young QB play through his growing pains....

Game of Thrones Part Deax: The Readers Thread
Buftex replied to Kevin's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The advantage of not reading the books...you can save a lot of time, and actually enjoy the television show. -
You know, I think the HBO format is much better for Oliver...he only has to do one 30 minute show per week...and it is high quality...he has had a decent amount of impact in his short time on HBO. I loved Colbert, and I like Stewart a lot too...but Oliver is doing, dare I say, actual news journalism. He can spend 20 minutes on one story, and really cover it from multiple angles, unlike Colbert and Stewart. I think Oliver is likely very happy to be at HBO.

Those pining for the Empire Sports Network...Pegula!

Sorry...would delete it if I could. -
Alex Jones is trying to figure out a way to link all of this into the government plan to take over Texas...keep your antennas tuned in!

I think he said it to Brandon Spikes, if memory serves..

I hate when football announcers use the (non) word "defensed". The first I remember using this "word" was Troy Aikman, and it seems the norm now. They say, "that pass was well defensed"....the correct word is "defended". Defensed is not a word. Just stop it!

Are you sure about that? Since the Bills acquired Cassel (who I admit, I had seen little of since his big year with the Pats, all those years ago), I have heard 3 analysts (for what it is worth) state that Cassel was an upgrade to Orton, a substantial one. I don't hate Orton as much as some did, but he was fairly erratic last season, the longer he played. The only edge he had over EJ was the willingness to throw the ball, even when he probably should have thought twice. John, all due respect, while EJ has possibly never played as bad as Genos worse, he has never elevated his game like Geno did from time to time...and Dave McBride is correct, Geno played pretty well the last month of last season, or so. He throws a much more accurate and catchable long-ball than EJ too. He hasn't been afraid to throw certain passes that EJ has seemed tentative on...hopefully new coaching will change some of that. I am an EJ guy, and I would argue that the Jets sticking with Geno, even through the ugliness, may prove to have been a wise thing for the former coach...he did improve, and started to get some consistency...

Bring Back Spikes--edit signed with ne***
Buftex replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the Bills signing guys like John Connor, at an area that is already over-crowded, the fact that Spikes is still out there (despite openly pining to return), and plays a position where the Bills might be considered a little thin, leads me to believe that Rex and co. just don't think Spikes is what we think he is. I just don't see it happening now... -
No offense taken. To me, though, the punishment for "deflategate" seems a bit harsher than it might have been had there been no spygate. Not sure what you mean, exactly, by "keep our victim card strong". I think the NFL has been under fire the last year, from a lot of non-traditional sports outlets... with all of the domestic abuse issues, the outside media (as opposed to sports media) was all of the sudden taking shots at the NFL, and talking heads on all the news outlets were calling for Goodells' dismissal. Had all of this not gone down the way it had, I am not so sure Tom Brady would be facing any suspension. Sherman's criticism of Goodell, in regards to his chummy relationship with the Pats, during Super Bowl media week, was a bad look not only for the commissioner, but the NFL as well. Lets' put it this way, had the punishment been doled out for this latest incident, and the Pats simply been forced to pay a fine, and lose a draft pick, would anyone have been shocked? I know many would have been pissed, but surprised? I don't think so. I am sure you have heard all the comparisons between Goodells' handling of this, verses the way the Saints were dealt with, so I won't go over all of them. And, maybe the infractions aren't the same...no victim card being played, I just think that public perception, and PR played a big part in deflategate. I can't believe that Roger Goodell had any really great desire to suspend Tom Brady...but he really had to.
-
I have to wonder too, if Richard Shermans' open questioning of Roger Goodell's overly cozy relationship with Kraft and the Patriots, didn't play into this too... Granted, I think Brady's punishment is well deserved, but I think if this exact thing had happened, say in 2013, this whole thing would have been similarly swept under the rung, like spygate. I know many feel the punishment handed down wasn't harsh enough, but I was pretty shocked by it. I would have been happy if they had gotten more, but still, surprised, given the way things like this have normally been handled by the NFL.

Well, Donnie Henderson is credited in some ways, for turning McKelvin into a "talented but frustrating" corner, into a solid pro, who can drift into the elite lane from time to time. Perhaps he can help Darby jump start that process. From everything I heard about the recent rookie camps, Henderson was working on Darby's ball tracking process pretty much from day one.
-
Ironically enough, the scouting reports that I read of Darby sound like his "weaknesses" are very similar to what Leodis had, his first four years or so in the season...they say he can keep up with and cover pretty much any receiver, but his "ball skills" are lacking... McKelvin was awesome in 2013, and after a rocky start in 2014, he returned to his 2013 form. Not sure why everyone is so anxious to run him off...
-
It would be criminally stupid to cut your 1st round pick QB after 14 starts, without any better options. And even stupider to cut one of the top two corners on your roster.
-
I got no horse left in this race...though I suppose the Lightening are the team I like least...and I love watching Ovechkin! So, I guess I am pulling for the Caps..
-
Amen! According to Cappacio, the Bills just signed John Connor!
-
Agree on the "susceptible to injury" part, but I think you underestimating his talents, when healthy. I like Hogan, but I also think he was given a lot more chances to succeed, under Marrone, than a lot of other guys were. Goodwin had some great moments in 2013, but, (and I don't think I am exaggerating) he didn't finish a single game that year, when he caught a pass. In 2014, perhaps with that in mind, it just seemed that Goodwin, healthy or not, just didn't get any chance to do much of anything...he wasn't the only one. It seemed like Marrone & co. just made their mind up about certain players (Goodwin and Spiller come most immediately to mind) and they just weren't going to waver on them... To me, Hogan is kind of like Scott Chandler, minus 70 pounds. He is not the worst option, but you know you can do better.
-
Would anyone be surprised if Dixon didn't make the squad? I like him, but I wonder what Roman thought of him during their time together in San Francisco. As for Hogan Vs Goodwin, I like Goodwins' upside better...but Hogan has slowly, but surely become a solid contributor. It seemed to me, last season, Marrone and/or Hackett was bent on giving him every opportunity they could to make an impact, and by and large, if he didn't impress, he didn't disappoint either. Personally I like Goodwin. There are a lot of speed demons in the NFL, but not all of them can catch. I think MG has shown to have really good hands to go with his speed...he just needs more opportunity, and, of course, needs to stay healthy.

I have an embarrassingly large card collection, as well as a pretty huge music collection...autographs too!

Fred Davis reinstated to NFL;update: signed by Pats**
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Part of the Patriots job interview: "Are you comfortable working "outside the lines" when it comes to NFL rules, policies and procedures?" Also, as I recall, didn't the Bills bring Davis in for a FA looksee a few years ago, and then he ended up using the Bills offer to leverage more from the Redskins?
