  1. Is that really winning? I'd say winning is having decisively better hang time & slightly better yardage. Failing that to have even a slight edge, you've gotta be better in both metrics.
  2. Well, whoever was the coach the last 2 yrs managed to win the division & make playoffs. So his threshold is that. Anything less would likely be sub standard. Further, the team is possibly the SB favorite going into the season. There's 32 coaches & his odds are 30-1. Seems about in line.
  3. I saw OJ play. He was definitely the best RB at the time, but he wasn't head over shoulders better than a few others. Jim Brown was before my time, but from what I understand, he was like a man amongst boys. Just dominant. Statistically at least, there was a receiver before the proliferation of the forward pass who far exceeded the output of any others. I think it was Don Hudson of GB, but again, that was before my time. I'll add Walter Payton was IMO the best player of his era. He might not have exceeded others excessively statistically speaking, but he was great at everything - running, catching, blocking, punting. Anything.
  4. Imagine this as a competition to see who is the more accurate: Both QBs throw the ball as far as they can. Mahomes throws it like 80 yds & is maybe 10' off target. Tua throws it like 45 & is only 5' off target. See, Tua is more accurate!
  5. Ya know, I'm really not that comfortable w/ our back QB position. Why don't we swing a trade for Mahomes?
  6. Hasn't it been around longer than that? Maybe in it's current iteration/location it's been 20 yrs. I would've thought it's been around since the late 90s.
  7. I used to cater commercial airplanes (albeit like 40 yrs ago). I thought in order to deploy those shutes, the door had to be blown off. (We almost had one deploy on us once when the flight attendants failed to disconnect it.)
  8. I don't think he was any more open. Hyde was able to close & make the INT cuz he was moving (much) faster than the ball. Sanders (still) had no one near him cuz the ball got there so quickly. More outside might/probably would've done it but throwing the ball w/ more velocity & less arc definitely would've made it impossible to make a defensive play on it.
  9. YES! That's the one. THANK YOU.
  10. I thought this was going to be another play. A fumble return (I think he scored), where he made moves & avoided tackles that would've made Barry Sanders envious.
  11. Our cap issues in the past were 2 fold - 1) We had the edict "cash to the cap", which is to say we were NOT spending up to the cap, ie Ralph is cheap 2) We saddled ourselves w/ burdensome contracts. That isn't so much a cap issue, but rather a talent assessment problem. ie we were giving lots of $ to people that didn't live up to their contracts. Related to #2 - I've noticed that we now have a few contracts that are "burdensome" (Allen, White, Miller & I think a few more). Hopefully, these guys continue to live up to their contracts; if they don't we'll be in trouble in the next few yrs.
  12. Only thing I really see it is that it's a sleezy thing to do to the player. The team is free to not tender a RFA thereby immediately making them a UFA. As a RFA he's free to shop around his svcs & he presumably found not much of a market, so he signs the tender. Problem w/ RFA is that the potential signing team doesn't immediately get the player. Player can only submit 1 offer, so they'll be shopping around their svcs; then the team holding his rights has 7 days(?) to match. When there's a race for signing talent, these issues lower that player's desirability.
  13. I don't see a problem w/ this. He's a top flight backup to bottom rank starter quality. Only thing bad I see is so much guaranteed. If they're able to fix/develop Jones & presumably draft someone that works out, that's a lot of dead cap they've gotta account for.
  14. I like it. For whatever reason, I don't think the team too highly, as he was like our 5th choice for Guard, ergo not the highly tender. What little I know about line play, I've always been impressed by him. Maybe Beach Chair can make something out of him.
  15. I don't think it's unreasonable for Stafford to ask for something in that area. He's been a very good QB for along time & just won a SB. Cousins...😆
  16. I would equate his performance there w/ that of Tannehill's in MIA. Also, they were both highly regarded draft choices that disappointed. But, he wasn't bad. And they both seemed to be in poor situations. Given that, if anything, I think his CHI performance is indicative that he's got potential. Frankly, I was shocked when he signed for us for only $2.5m. I can only assume that he thought he actually needed the training.
  17. I don't think there's a reason to think he can't be a top 15 QB. How much does a Ryan Tannehill make? I'd think he'd sign somewhere in the neighborhood of $10m SB, low 2022 salary then $20m+ (maybe w/ additional incentives for 2023). So let's say 2 yrs $40m ttl.
  18. He's on the last yr of his contract w/ a base salary of $4.9m. On the surface, he, at that price, is definitely worth something. However... w/o a longer contract in place, I think he's worth little more than a box of tape. Presumably, no trade could be consummated until after his $1m roster bonus is due, which would result in a cap hit for us. If a team could work out a contract extension, I'd be happy getting a 5-7th round perhaps contingent on production. Otherwise, I guess it's hello Mr Turk, adios Beas.
  19. The $ is there, you just showed it. It's a choice. And when you're expecting to make the playoffs, IMO not doing so is a gamble. Josh Allen can win games for you. Trubisky, at the minimum, can put others in a position to win a game for you. A Jake Fromm type you're lucky if he doesn't lose it for you. Let's say you're paying $6m for your QB backup. That's ~$5m over minimum wage. That's enough to either upgrade 1 player to "good" player or 2 to above average relative to JAG. You're talking probability, but IMO I think losing your starting QB, at least for sometime, is quite likely. I think the value of a good backup is greater than upgrading somewhere around the 30-35th best player(s) on your team. I will concede it's an opinion that is based on your perceived thoughts on likelihood of losing your starting QB, the resulting impact of the downgrade at that position relative to the benefit of upgrading one or more positions some ways down your roster. That said, this is likely a mute point as there are likely few, if any options like Trubisky available.
  20. Couple things: I thought since Allen already signed his contract extension, IF we cut him, we've got a TREMENDOUS amount of deadcap, like $90M. (Not that I'm suggesting it ) Like most, I suspect Trubisky is gone. BUT, I think he'd be a bargain at 2x or even 3x his current cap figure. I have no reason to believe he isn't among the best backup QBs in the league & possibly even top 1/2 starter quality. He has great physical talents. Going rate for that quality QB is ~$1M/game (Allen's production is $2.5-$3m/game). Given Allen's playing style & just likelihood of any QB being injured, I think that outlay is a reasonable precaution to potentially save our season in the event Allen gets hurt.
  21. Makes sense. LA is loaded w/ AVID Chargers fans & were upset they didn't make it so they boycotted the game.
  22. Even to the casual observer, it was apparent that something was dysfunctional in Miami's administration. What that is/was, IDK & IDC, other than people "didn't get along". I don't see a problem w/ being honest & upfront w/ a player/subordinate. I'm sure they don't appreciate the action, but they should appreciate the approach. From my perspective, it seemed imprudent to bench Fitz & it seemed to be a point of contention there. It's reasonable to assume that there was also some disagreement as to whether or not Tua was their guy.
  23. I saw in-season someone (sportac?) had him valued around $6m/yr. I'd hope to get him for less than that, but in that ballpark. How much did Johnson sign for? I'd say he's worth a fair amount less than him. Another factor is the salary cap amount. Yes, it went up, but not significantly. Maybe, if it's a multiple yr contract, it will escalate along w/ anticipated cap growth? ie maybe 3 yrs, $5m bonus & $1m, $4m & $6m salaries at the low end, $8m, w/ $1m, $6m, $9m at the high end? The latter works out to $8m/yr.
  24. I think it's a matter of what someone alluded to above. Staffs weren't as large as they are now (nor were rosters). Way back when, teams had like 3 or 4 coaches. I'd bet Marv typically had about a dozen or so, which was probably typical. It's only recently (Rex was an innovator ) that typical staffs are 20+ w/ multiple "quality control" and assistant position coaches.
