  1. I can see the headline now: Pagula buys the Bills, changes the name to the Buffalo Frackers!!! (you need to think about that comment a minute, its funny )
  2. Brandon Marshall has eaten the Bills alive in past encounters.......wondering if they can stop him this time.....I will believe it when I see it. Then we will find out if Gilmore is really a shut down corner. I am thinking he can't contain Marshall, at least, I have not seen that from him as of yet. Year 3 now, gilmore has to show his bonifides as CB by doing this kind of thing, or, its journeyman status, and no bills renewal for him. The current regime did not draft him, so there is no ownership in his presence on the team.
  3. I have been involved in the process of applying (successfully) to a trust created after the death of an industrial superstar. this trust has granted my organization multiple grants to do the work we want to do.......the rules of the trust, in this case I am familiar with, requires us to get three bids on the matters we are dealing with. However, the trust does not require us to buy (with their money) from the lowest bidder....it only requires that we have a reason for selecting who we want to do business with.(another words, use judgement) Now, based on that experience, I would say it is legally possible for the Wilson trust to require multiple bidders, and that the members of the board of the trust might well make the final decision. And, that decision might well include a "hometown" discount for a qualified WNY centric new owner. So, if Mary Wilson, Littman, Brandon, and the others make that decision, I don't think there is anybody to second guess them. (certain NFL owners might not like it, but, I think the ownership trust speaks) Finally, the Wilson family has already made out...since the cost basis of the Bills franchise was reset to market value when Mr Wilson passed away. So, no tax will be paid on whatever the sale price is .(other than the appreciation between the date of Mr wilson's passing to the date of sale) I think there is a reasonable possibiity that the bills, then, might stay in WNY.. I am guessing that was Mr Wilson's hope. And, not sure a couple of Billion dollars from a Toronto group would make a difference. I think the hometown discount could be as high as half a bil.......just sayin.....not out of the realm of possibility.
  4. We can trust Goodell to be the NFL commisioner, representing the league and the owners. He will not be a WNY homer, its not his job.
  5. Pettine's comments on this are telling, after his year in Buffalo especially. Pettine:" Its easier to prepare for a team that is all hurry up, or all slow....than it is to prepare for a team that does both" Seems to me that is a shot at the Marrone/Hackett Offensive stragedy....and sounds legit to me. Hence, I think that Marrone and Hackett are destined to have probems until they adapt to the fast/slow paradyme...........We certainly didn't see anything strong about the approach last year. Wondering why they think this will work.......one trick ponies can be dealt with....multiple move folks are tougher to plan to defend. thanks to Pettine for that comment...wish he had made that point stick when he was here.
  6. watched Hogan in the games he was in last year....special teams contribution was medicore....his efforts as a receiver were unimspired. I think he has to go...... don' t understand why Easley doesn't get a shot at receiver.......neither chan Gailey or Doug Marrone seem to want to give him that shot.....tells me something, but I still don't understand. I am concerned whether a 245 DE can make it in this league....thats small for a LB......really small for a DE.....just wondering if he can make it there, despite his statements he loves the position. He's a big pay guy playing out of position. (Manny Lawson, if you didn't guess) I think there is a chance he gets cut, as a cap move if nothing else. QB position is weak.......need a third we can believe in....I don't yet buy Tuel......I liked Dixon out of Oregon, but he hasn't stuck in many NFL tries. He was here last year, but is likely PS inelgible. do you really think, after last years travial, that they will keep only two QB's. (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me)
  7. Fredex becomes the Bills rb coach when he retires, and works out with the team as the coach. Then, when someone get hurt....he signs as a player again for a few games. Just muttering to myself........
  8. Not sure the Buffalo brain trust would have been smart enough to see this guys skills......he might not have made the team.
  9. Needs the same treatment that Dez Bryant gets in Dallas, that is a 24 hour "escort"
  10. You know, sometimes, when somebody gets a chance, and does well, somebody else can't get back on the field. This could be the beginning of the end for MD and the beginning of something big for Charles. We will see.
  11. This guy has been making first rounder money for 5 years or so. He won't be coming anywhere for cheap.
  12. Bad education system....if the spell checker can't save them, they are toast.
  13. I am hoping Gilmore developes, but I have not seen the play that deserves all the hype he has been getting for two years from the Bills. Yep, he was a #1 pick, and has played well at times, but he didn't do much last year...and his rookie year was overrated by the Bills PR machine trying to sell us on him. As a season ticket holder, I have seen him, and he does make plays sometimes. But, no Island status, not anywhere near it yet. Now, hard to believe, but it took McKelvin 4 years in the league to figure it out...and he is finally doing what is expected of a CB.....hoping Gilmore is a little faster on the learning curve, but not so sure of that based on the two years we have seen. Good luck to him and the Bills this year.
  14. Yep, EJ did not deliver good deep balls, and the jury is out on him.....I was there, saw the bad throws. All this rah, rah we hear won't last another season if EJ doesn't do a better job on the long ball. He missed consistently, especially ob on the sideline. Do Marrone and Hackett think the fans are blind? As for TJ, he really hasn't shown anything to speak of yet....I am guessing he is not making it in the league...a bust.
  15. The good big man beats the good little man almost every time. Old adage in sports seems to apply to line play.
  16. Actually, the retractable roof in Arizona (Diamondbacks baseball Park) has a retractable dome, and real grass!!!!
  17. IMHO, byrd was skilled but slower than the top safeties in the league. So, I think he is replaceable, actually glad is gone with the BA etc. Slow skilled guys are around....like the FA signed from Vandy.
  18. I usually don't agree with Bruce Fisher's view, as he is far left wing on many things. But, he has some decent arguments in this piece....he is the only reason, in my view, to read Artvoice at all. Even if I disagree with him, I always read him......he's; that kind of talent. But, having said that.....the downtown has traffic shortcomings, not the great existing network as described. As a long time season ticket holder (3 decades), I am not sure my destination of choice is downtown.....an upgraded OP facility might getter done, as some say. And, they comments on cars are out of touch. EV;s will eventually play a commuter role.....and that will include the football game. And, my car currently has 4 guys in it every game, every season. Carpooling already exists, we party together........
  19. Perfect bet size....if you won $400, the casino would issue you a 1099G and you would have to pay taxes on the winnings. But, at $375, no records (I think)
  20. Three reasons why Toronto won't work as a Bills relocation...1. the fan base won't go to the non tailgate environment of downtown toronto 2.. Many US fans do not have passports 3. the toronto fans of the bills that have been touted by Jerry Jones don't exist....witness the lack of attendance at the bills toronto series.
  21. I am guessing that Marrone got a read on this guy from Kiko....who would know him. If the Bills passed, its for good reason.
  22. Bill Polian......retired, doing broadcasting for a lark.....out of the league by choice, I think. (his choice) Now, about Gronk...really has been hurt a lot . Great TE, but can't stay on the field last two years. Reminds me of POZ when he was here, brittle is word. I don't know how POZ has done on the injury front in Jax. The critiques I have heard about this draft are all vanilla about the situation in buffalo.....they don't acknowledge that a new owner is going to arrive, and if the team isn't a playoff team, new coaching and management will happen..might happen anyhow. But, Whaley and Marrone have no problem "burning the furniture" for the 2015 draft......if they don't win this year, they are most likely gone anyhow...won't be their problem. Yes, a big price, but they are spending what they can to try to keep their jobs...by winning now. Getting rid of S Johnson was OK, he was a lot of trouble...talented with limitations. Fitz made him...and EJ couldn't adapt to SJ's adaptive route running. Hackett complaining laslt year about SJ not running the routes exactly. Of course not, he ran where they weren't. But, EJ is not yet sophisticated enough to recognize that situation.....so SJ had to go, bring in guys who run the route, even if its not open. At least EJ will know where they are. All this turnover......its natural in football...they new management always gets rid of the guys they didn't select.
  23. Big mistake to put a new stadium there, traffic in and out would be a nightmare...as a season ticket holder, I can't see going down by the lake where there are no roads headed out to the west.........lack of a 360Degree transportation network makes the waterfront undesireable. Other roads then overloaded and traffic would be a nightmare. I, for one, won't be doing that.
  24. Well, I don't think this was all bad.......Stevie performed well with Fitz at QB, with his Harvard brain.....Stevie was given great flexibility to run his routes as determined by what the defenders left uncovered in the coverage. Fitz and Stevie read this together, and it worked. I remember Revis complaining that Stevie had the most freedom of any receiver in the league after Stevie torched him one game. Now, in comes Manuel.....and he doesn't have the head to operate this way. Manuel can't adapt to an alternate route based on the coverage given by the D...he can barely keep the playbook straight. Mid season Hackett is complaining that Stevie doesn't run his routes exactly as drawn up....Manuel can't adapt......so, my view, we have an incompatibility of Stevie's skill set and the organizational desire for cookie cutter route runners. Hence, Marrone and Hackett get rid of Stevie.......not their kind of guy. To bad, he was skilled. However, he did not fit the speed theme they are trying to build. I wish him well in SF, and hope Kappernick can get on the same page with him. (And that was why Stevie didn't like it when Fitz was dumped)
  25. Yes, they paid to much.....but why. My view....Marrone and Whaley are in a "one and done" situation with respect to a new owner. If they aren't in the playoffs, they will be gone...the new guy will put his stamp on the team right away. (might even if they make the playoffs) So, ";burning the furniture" for the 2015 draft might not make any difference to the current leadership at OBD, as they won't be there anyhow if they don't make the playoffs. So, for them, this was a" why not?" situation. I would have been happy with the guy from LSU at #9, but I am not running the show. Go Bills! I wish them good fortune with this pick!
