Zone or not, Bell is someone’s key on every play. It’s just not the same thing as allocating a dedicated resource to check the opposing QB (spy). And given McD’s tendencies, I suspect we will see a lot of zone coverages with matchups underneath.

Gruden's destruction of the Raiders

Yep. Which is why I don’t think he’s long for that job. -
People need to reconcile this simple fact. He will have completely crappy games. But some people won’t even allow him to throw one lousy pass without analyzing the F out of it, so there is no hope for them to accept a bad game here and there. The true measure is how dies Allen respond to those bad plays, bad series, and bad games. It’s all about getting up off the mat. Personally, I think Josh Allen is just fine in that regard.

Greggo completely losing it on the sidelines.

Just to be clear, you aren’t suggesting Derek Carr is as good as Big Ben because he’s averaged just 20 less passing yards a game, are you? No QB in the history of the game has been better at extending plays and giving his receivers a ton of extra time to get open and then FINDING them than BR. He’s routinely made stars out of his receivers since he began as a result, including AB. I’m amazed at how easily you dismiss this reality.

Gruden's destruction of the Raiders

Are you under the impression that Mayock is at the helm of that ship? -
I was totally joking in that post. I agree Mayock isn’t petty and will seek the high road. But I also think he fully realizes how little power he has in building that winning team you mention. He cannot have final say when the coach is getting paid $100m over 10 years. And while I think Mayock isn’t the petty type, I also don’t think he appreciates having his nuts handed to him in such a public display, either. I said yesterday that I don’t think he will be there much longer and I’m more convinced of that than ever after today.

I believe the Raiders, read Gruden and Davis, said more by accepting him back and declaring he will play on Monday than anything else. If they were serious about any suspension, etc., they would have acted already. I bet Mayock was never on board with the signing after what he pulled in Pittsburgh because he actually played and has respect for the game. Gruden and Davis couldn’t care less. Mayock is googling “mama” jokes as I type this.

I think it’s more a sign he doesn’t trust his CBs and LBs in coverage.
-
Perhaps I should have put “spied” in quotations. Let’s just say that using that word to describe an LBs normal key is redundant. That differs from dedicating a spy to mirror a QB in that it is dedicating a resource normally used elsewhere. Not many QBs are targeted like that because not many QBs can hurt a defense like that. When Kiko was assigned to spy Allen, he was otherwise removed from another responsibility defensively. Haha. This is a trap game for the Jest.

OAK planning to suspend AB (edit: apologized, playing)

Amazing how contrite one becomes at the prospect of losing $30m. I look for Mayock to move on.
