Im convinced its coaching (Chiefs showing how to handle Bengals)
NewEra replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
What’s the purpose of dropping everyone if not scared of getting beat deep? This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this play call vs a manageable 3rd down. draft elam- press man corner- I was hoping that signaled the beginning of a more diverse defense. Yet…… it’s the same thing all over again. Giving away first downs while hoping that the opposition makes a mistake. Never dictating. Looked to be the case to me. -

Maddening. I just don’t understand. Can any poster with a doctorate in defensive schemes please explain how this makes any sense? -
Yeah….their clock is ticking. They pushed their chips in on mccaffery helping them win a SB while they pay their QBs pennies. They’ll save money on Bosas 18M cap hit next year….only to make that cap hit 35M in a couple years. Bosa is their QB salary. And he’s about to get paid. Greenlaw has 1 year on his contract. Mcglinchy is a FA. Jimmie Ward a FA. Brendel a FA. Al Shaair a FA. Hufanga 2 years left. Juszesyk has 2 7M cap hits incoming. They have a nice 2 year window. Phillys talent level will probably drop off some over the next 2 years. It’s impossible to keep that kind of talent and pay a QB.

No one knows for sure, but I’d venture to say that this defensive scheme needs at least 9/11th of the opening day starters to be healthy in order to have success vs the better offenses. we played very well vs the chiefs mid season 2 years in a row. just a perfect example of Frazier coaching scared. This is one of the most ridiculous play calls ever. 3rd and 4- here you go, take the first down for free. -

That’s one way to look at it. another way to look at it: the chiefs coaching staff does a better job of coaching and cultivating their drafted talent up than the Bills coaching staff. seems to me like it’s a little of both. The chiefs have the best coaching staff in the league imo. -
Reassessing the Over-Reactions to the Divisional Round

The bills are in the top tier of AFC teams- This Philly team is LOADED. Roseman saw he had a good qb on his rookie deal and went for it. Looks like he’s going to get it imo. -

Jim Johnson was McD’s mentor. Where’s his defense?
NewEra replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Patience is hard when you have the clock ticking on 17s career. How many more years do you give him? If his defense gets romped on in a season ending loss next year…. Or the next 2? Or another 3 more defensive failures? At that point, Joshs mobility isn’t what it is and we have no clue what condition his body will be in after another 3 years of abuse. Th8/ regimes track record of bolstering the OL has been pitiful. I just don’t see Frazier coming up big when it counts against Cinci or KC unless he gets lucky and brings in a 💯 healthy D come playoffs. -
Come on what? Their season is over. It doesn’t matter who was hurt. 1 of the seasons they went all in on ended up falling short. I’m not saying they couldn’t have wonthe SB this year. I think they could’ve beaten Philly with a healthy Purdy. But they didn’t. Not much else to it.
-
The trade made SF relevant this season, but they still came up short. Their SB clock is ticking. Bosa about to be paid like a QB

Listening to Beanes closing PC, I would bet he is. Excuse after excuse.

I think the 50 games should be filtered and sorted by top 10 offenses. We’ve had some good showings on D, but it’s not representative of our league rank imo. Playing the jets, fins and pats offenses x2 also helps. our d just hasn’t impressed me unless we’re close to 💯 healthy. I feel like it relies on great play and execution more than most great defenses. Our league rank says we’re a great d. My eyes haven’t seen a great bills d since Frazier has been here. A couple very good D’s. -

Timing has a lot to do with it. Coming up big when it counts. When it matters most. Our playoff wins are against teams we were clearly better then. Facing teams that were underdogs against or on a level playing field- this defense is 0-4 Come up big just once in 4 years…… that’s isn’t too much to ask. Leslie Frazier has been a DC for 14 years and has made 1 championship game. Prior to joining Buffalo, his passing defenses finished inside the top 10 1 time, when they were 9th. In 8 seasons he was in the top half of the league 2 times, when they did Uber 9th and 13th. Always in the bottom half in interceptions. in 8 seasons he was inside of the top 10, never. He finished 10th once. 28th, 21th, 12th, 13th, 10th, 18th, 25th and 26th. his results in Buffalo, coaching under a defensive HC on a team that has devoted the majority of its assets to his defense, has been much better. Until he gets brutally exposed in our finale. I just can’t overlook how truly terrible our D has been in the last 3 season ending losses. I don’t believe our coordinators have put our players in position to win the game (minus Daboll vs KC last year). Our d has been embarrassed and no one is held accountable. Like Mixon said, we ain’t Baltimore. I don’t think Frazier is a bad DC. I think he’s a very good coach. I just don’t think he’s a championship caliber coach and some of the players might be second guessing him. I don’t think he’s capable of stifling a championship caliber team in the playoffs. I think McD could be a championship coach, but he’s hitched his wagon to Frazier which could lead to next year being his last chance to accomplish his end goal as a Bill. -

Right. Just like both the offense and defense were completely out coached vs KC the previous season. And the offense and defense getting completely out coached a week ago. Yes, our D had their fair share of blown coverages last week, but the D played so far off the entire game. Looking at the game plan, I see coaching scared. Just like vs KC the previous 2 seasons. Literally giving them 5-15 yards on every play. I just can’t buy into it anymore. I don’t believe in the process on D. If our pass rush isn’t running rampant, the D is stale and has very few answers. -
Scouting coaching OL WR
-
Par for the course!! anyone have the low down on Jones? Can he pass block on the nfl level? He looks like he can be a special run blocker.
-
Yeah….. opposed to that
-
The bengals invested in the OL and failed. None of their success is due to their investment their OL. the chiefs spent more than most on their OL- we won’t even attempt to do what they did. And Mahomes is still running for his life vs the better defenses. but I hear ya. We’re currently 2B now, sitting behind 1A and 1B. Mainly because our OL is complete trash. Beanes biggest collaboration of failures on that side of the ball.
-
Oh I agree. Definitely hope Bijan is not the pick….but if he is…..what can we do except embrace it and hope it works out? Oh yeah, we can whine and cry about it for years….. great way to spend our one chance @ life.
-
Trade Ed for an “all pro” guard? 🤣 We won’t be that lucky, but that all pro guard will want 15-20M a year. Edit: sorry- I just don’t think adding 15-20M OL will be part of our plan.
